Why are field recordings considered so deep and inaccessible? I listen to recordings of Pacific chorus frogs to get to sleep at night, and various other wilderness recordings like dawn choruses and lakeside scenes. Also city nighttime sounds are very relaxing for whatever reason. Planes flying overhead, horns off in the distance, crickets, frogs, it's all very nice.

because IDM fans judge music with roughly the same set of values art critics of the 1950s judged art: the less it makes you feel anything, the less pretty it is, the less it can be connected to any imagery or ideology, the more it can be considered art.

nah most of this is just shitposting. it plays into /mu/'s general sense of superiority and the common idea of there being a hierarchy of music so it gets a lot of responses. most people here probably don't think this is in any way legitimate. that said, best chart incoming

earthquave waveforms exist.

basically you record seismic waves, and then use a program and assume this wave data you have in your hands is a sound one (and as you know its actually a seismic one)

I dont remember how seismic ones sound, but plasma wave ones most of the time sounds like harsh noise, glitch, lowercase and on few cases ambient drone.

it's really not possible.

why would anyone want to rank art? to promote specific cultural values in a covert form. hidden social agendas, baby!

all these charts remind of this:

>An extreme reaction against the primitive view, at one time associated with the "art for art's sake" catchword, thinks of art in precisely the opposite terms, as a mystery, an initiation into an esoterically civilized community. Here criticism is restricted to ritual masonic gestures, to raised eyebrows and cryptic comments and other signs of an understanding too occult for syntax.

>The fallacy common to both attitudes is that of a rough correlation between the merit of art and the degree of public response to it, though the correlation assumed is direct in one case and inverse in the other.

sounds like your typical avant-teen, don't it?

...and the "primitive view" he was referring to was mainly about "folk art", but it sounds a lot like your typical poptimist, doesn't it? maybe with some "camp" sensibilities tacked on, too.

I've been reading the "polemical introduction" to Northrop Frye's Anatomy of Criticism - anyone that's experienced a hundred of anything would benefit from reading the introduction (or even memorizing it)
