Reminder that Jamaica is one of the most important countries for modern popular music.
>>
All you have is reggae which isn't significant to anyone besides stoners. Reggae hasn't mattered in the mainstream since the 80s.

Early dancehall was good, its just the modern shit sucks
>>
>>61917649
His point is reggae influenced all of them.

Dub and ska spawned from reggae. These genres were popular in the UK and had great influence on post-punk and punk (listen to something like PiL or The Clash for example). New wave and 80s/90s pop borrowed a lot from reggae (The Police, Culture Club, UB 40, new jack swing, etc.) Dub is the basis of a lot UK EDM genres like drum & bass and jungle and others.

Hotline Bling is a shameless rip off of this

Reggae was very influential on punk rock in the UK during the 70s and onwards.

Even My Bloody Valentine were influenced.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc1DZ2k31w8

Then you've got hip hop and it's subgenres like trip hop and grime.

People on /mu/ and other music forums who don't recognize reggae as the most important driving force of contemporary music are simply plebs that haven't listened to reggae because Pitchfork hasn't told them how.
