This honestly sounds to me like Omar needs money and doesn't have the energy to make another Volta record. Im sure there's a much more positive outlook that he has though, being excited about being in a band after Antemasque and Bosnian Rainbows, also I'll be he's doing bands now because he's stepping further away from music to work on his films.
One good thing is that Cedric now knows how to sing properly, where as he had no clue really in the original ATDI, so it will be interesting to hear what it sounds like. Judging from Antemasque in the studio he can still belt the shit out of stuff, and since ORL has been producing records for longer now and Rick Rubin's are out of the picture, I would say that there is a strong possibility that this could be the best ATDI album yet. Cedric should probably relapse though. Or else people should tweet a bunch of heinous shit at him so that he gets angry, maybe make threatening jokes about his twins and say how much he sucks now and should just relapse cause he sucks making music when he's clean. You know, stuff like that that will make him want to prove himself as the lord of his dominion beyond any doubts. Oh and tell him Zavalaz sucked, even though Zavalaz is currently probably the current number one best unreleased but know about album there is. Seriously. Those songs were damn great and in the studio with vocal harmonies and shit they are probably fucking bomb.

King Crimson is not better than Hawkwind. King Crimson is much more technical while Hawkwind is more spiritual and a better match for that reason. Also the sound, the whole thing they had going live, where the singer gets on mic and starts shrinking about psychedelic shit commanding you to open your mind while feed back and delayed guitars swirl around. The whole stoner theatricality of it has a direct linage to Hawkwind.

I'm talking from a conservative guitar playing perspective. The way he played with BR was off the charts amazing, completely unique sense of melody and funky feeling, all articulated masterfully and smoothly with detailed microtonal bends and shit. It doesn't devalue TMV in anyway, it's just better guitar playing objectively. besides, most of the guitar stunts on TMV albums are Frusciante playing.
BR is practically Jimi Hendrix level shit. I recommend you listen to some bootlegs. to hear what I'm talking about.

I think you guys are misunderstanding. The perspective here is a very conservative one, and one of the things that's being valued is saying more with less. Many great guitarist just like poets, will tell you it's better to use less to say more. Lots of ORL's solo work is built around very interesting compositions, but his playing has traditionally been verbose. He plays a lot of extra notes that aren't always necessary, and while he does it in a way that was still his own and expressive (Jimmy Page comes to mind as an example of this) it was also frequently sloppy and some of the interesting territory he got into melodically was probably the result of fixing mistakes as he played. I absolutely adore everything he plays, even when he plays like this, but the graceful way he plays in BR is much better in a technical sense. He makes every note count melodically, and at the same time it's really tight rhythmically. It's just really amazing.
If any of you guys are guitar players you would probably get what I'm talking about here.

Relationship of Command is my favourite album ever and ATDI had a massive impact on the music I listen to (I put away the Fall Out Boy albums and started listening to Fugazi) But I can't imagine this new album will be any good.

That's great, but honestly the singing Cedric had on In/Casino/Out and their EP's added to the charm. Especially considering how raw and intense the band sounded. I hope they can still get super pumped for their new shows, because watching them live back in their prime is pretty amazing.

I was really disappointed in his voice during the reunion shows. I was expecting to hear some of the progression he made since ATDI broke up, but it sounded like he regressed a lot. It didn't seem like he could do the more aggressive/screaming parts. To be fair it could've been just the recording from the Coachella show, but it didn't sound right.
