i've got mates that listen to the standard dad-rock/metal bands. same 10 or so albums for over a fucking decade now. i chucked on bitches brew because fuckit drunk. i was expecting someone to curse at me and take it off but it didn't happen. got through all 90 minutes of it.
I'm so glad my closest bros have the same taste in music. 1 of em we even met because of music.
Heh, and this reminds me, a while back my dad visited, and I showed him my new speakers. I also like some stuff from his time, so we went through a few songs, then I remembered Disturbed's cover of The Sound of Silence, and turned it on. He didn't think much of it in the beginning, but as it went on and more instruments joined, and then the powerful singing, he actually liked it.

i'm a pretty calm and patient person, but trying to show music to my normie friends is something that gets me really frustrated. i have a friend who acts like she's ready to give an album a full comprehensive review after just one listen. the worst part is she tries to sound like a professional critic when 90% of the time she has no idea what the fuck she's talking about.
but even worse is another person I know who won't even finish a song if he doesn't find the first 45 seconds interesting on first listen. and likewise, they like to act like a professional music critic after this.
i usually send them stuff to check out and they give me their impressions afterwards. with that in mind, can you imagine trying to show someone some music you like, and then a day later, they tell you they didn't even get past 45 seconds of the first song of the album? and then directly afterwards they try talk like a professional music critic on how it simply isn't good?
the idea that something isn't worth your time if you don't like it on first listen is so well cemented in the typical normie mindset. i explained to a friend the concept of letting music grow on you and he found it mindboggling.
This entire thread is just dummies putting on /mu/core and expecting their normie friends to love it and praise their taste. The only time I ever put on anything /mu/ related is to joke around since I know they won't like it.
In regards to the topic of this thread, the only time anything has ever gotten me mad was talking to a girl about music and I asked her what her favorite band was, she replied with My Chemical Romance, her favorite emo band. She said she felt that she could relate to the "crushing and heart-breaking lyrics" and then started talking about Fall Out Boy. I said those bands weren't really emo then she cited Wikipedia saying MCR and Fall Out Boy were emo. This was around a week ago tbhfam
