i learned how to play by watching some of these guys videos and using the "Bass guitar for dummies" book.

Just fuck around then you'll get it, it's easy

http://www.songsterr.com

I would strongly suggest lessons for a couple years if not more, theres a lot someone can see you doing in person that you will never pick up online practicing by yourself.

Dont use a pick or else u r a mega pleb

Only use it after u learn fingerpicking

In all srs it doesnt matter, but i would rec learn fingerpicking first
>>
just search which are the easiest songss on bass, pick one you like, search the tabs and play it til you nail it, try one more song, so on and so on, when you have already learned 10 song go give it a try and learn some theory, practice scales A LOT

get a metronome and tuner (phone apps are fine for this when starting out)

Always play with your bass in tune.

Use the metronome to work on your rhythm.

Can confirm

Imagine just holding your guitar, and going at the strings just once, but to produce a loud sound. Like an opener to a concert I guess?

What is it called?

Wailing?
Waling?
Ripping?

I would recommend learning finger style first, before delving into slapping/picking.

Try to learn all the notes on the fretboard.

Also try to learn your chord tones early on, especially your Major 7, Dominant 7 and minor 7 before getting into scales.

Good luck OP!

Mostly just start with learning songs you like off of sites like Songsterr and maybe >>61901954 since I did that and it helped me develop as a good bassist extremely quickly even though I rarely play or even listen to Rush anymore
>>61902615
I use a pick 90% of the time now when in my band, about 50/50 outside that and even about 30% of the time used a pick during my first few years of playing and I'd say this is right, start fingerstyle
>>61903260
This guy is an idiot
>>61903695
Tuner is essential, metronome is extremely helpful too
>>61904313
The Clash is the first thing that comes to mind outside of semi technical players/bands
>>
>>61901941
Learn finger playing as much as possible.
I practice a lot but I'm still terrible at it. Picks are for pussies.
