if you had actual depression you wouldn't want to even listen to music

if you had depression you would cover yourself with a blanket and wouldn't eat and wouldn't have a desire to live

Severe depression that's true. Minor depression would be he'd play a favorite album and not pay any attention to it.

Low - I Could Live in Hope
Sparklehorse in general
Elliott Smith, of course
A bunch of stuff from Mark Kozelek
Matt Elliott - Drinking Games
The Mountain Goats - Get Lonely

Loud shoegaze, drone and noise in general also works for me. Try The Goslings - Grandeur of Hair or Between the Dead.

I'm saying it's more complicated than that. You can't just classify that kind of stuff so easily. We're talking about the human mind here. Everyone's different.
Speaking from personal experience. I've been clinically depressed for about 5 years and I used to be suicidal (tried it a couple of times), and I used to listen to music and play videogames literally all day to distract myself from the constant intrusive thoughts and all that stuff.

See when I had severe depression yeah I didn't wanna do anything I couldn't even get myself to turn on my computer and post here. BUT, that being said there was one thing that was on for me at all times. It was the Public Castration version of Coward by Swans. When I went full depression it resonated with me in a way nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING else did at the time (except getting fucked up on copious amounts of drugs/alcohol.)

I ended up in a psychiatric ward after falling apart and struggling with depression, I was diagnosed with social anxiety and depression by one of the top doctors in the country.
All I did for 2 weeks in the ward was listen to my iPod.
Fuck off if you think all depressed people act the same way.
I didn't lose interest in all music, rather, I had different kinds of music resonate with me in different ways.
I didn't enjoy anything else.
Didn't play games, didn't talk, barely ate, just lay there plugged in, trying to tune out the thoughts I was thinking.

I JUST WANT ALCOHOL BUT THEY TOOK MY MONEEEEEEEEEEEY

>psych ward
>was allowed to bring in their iPod

say WHAT? They would NEVER let you do that in a psych ward.
>>
>>61897185

if that was sarcasm it was the most unfunny thing ever
>>
>>61895077
>if you had actual depression you wouldn't want to even listen to music
Everyone reacts to depression differently

I use music to block out the world and numb myself

I want to die every single waking moment but I still listen to music

It is literally the one thing in my life I still enjoy

i remember at my lowest i had a geto boys album playing. i just didnt care enough to change it, it was on the morning things fell apart, so for 3 weeks i just listened to Cant Be Stopped in the background while i went to and from work every day on the train..
>>
>>61897204
No it wasn't...they put everything of yours that you do have (ex. stuff in your pockets) all in a locker that you aren't allowed to access until you leave. Neither are you allowed to bring in things like an iPod from the outside. Psych wards are strict as fuck. Hell, one of the peeps who worked at the one I was in; we used to discuss stuff like theology and philosophy a lot. He wanted to bring me nothing but a printed paper of some article that was online. He talked to all his superiors about getting it done, and they still didn't let him.
>>
>>61897332

i've been in a psych ward, mp3 players are fine, the only things they watch are razor blades like for shaving
>>
>>61895244
I thought this sounded kinda happy.

Though I haven't paid attention to the lyrics yet, maybe they aren't.
>>
>>61897466

they dont worry about the headphone cords?

I know it's a bit of a stretch, but you never know..
>>
>>61897466

also anything that contained drugs, you weren't even allowed energy drinks

i think it depends on the individual, they do have lockers and you have to ask for some stuff but i remember being able to keep my phone and mp3 player

Ahhh that seems to make sense. As I said mines from USA particularly from Virginia. From articles I have read Europe definitely has a somewhat different view/approach on mental issues than here in US. I like it; one day I brought a Daft Punk CD for Dance Therapy and Art Therapy sessions, in fact saying that 1. They can keep the CD don't even give it to me and 2. The dance therapist was even okay with it (and the art therapist lady was on my side on the whole "bring music/listen to it as long as I am under supervision" too). They refused that, too.

Oh and by I brought it, obviously I meant I asked my parents to bring it during visitation.

No. We weren't even allowed to leave our floor. Being a heavy cigarette smoker I got fucked so badly; even having the highest mg Nicotine Patch wasn't enough. When I left I downed a pack of smokes in about four hours even after "slowing down" realizing how desperate I looked.
