Why are you talking to Mark Levin
>>
Well, I don't know what happened to the thread I tried to post so I guess I'll just post it here since it's somewhat related.

Any good future funk artists? Where do I begin exploring this genre.
>>
>>61873984
Alright future funk condensed:

Most of it sucks. Maybe not "sucks" per se but the genre as a whole is pretty boring. There are a couple solid releases and then everyone else copied them and reduced whatever the genre had going for it into some banal cookie cutter shit. Future funk is worse about this than most genres because of how rigid the "definition" of it is- which has more to do with people's expectations (which are very very low).

In summary, Hit Vibes by Saint Pepsi is probably the best future funk album taken as a whole. Some of his other stuff is definitely worth listening like Empire Building. Sailorwave is good but Macross is mediocre over his discography. Aloe Island Posse has some solid tracks and theres like one Moe Shop EP that I tolerate. Fuck Yung Bae

So any suggestions for albums or single tracks that use no lyrical samples from funk?

I know about 2814. I also know that slowed down funk is a foundation of the genre, but was hoping there had been some more original attempts at this point.

I stumbled upon this a while ago, it's got a future funk essential folder.

I don't get future funk.

The good thing about vaporwave was that it took incidental music (something we'd hear a lot but never actively listen to) and made it drugged out and likeable, and made a new song.

But future funk just takes funk singles and does practically nothing to them. There's no reason not to just go hear the original singles. I heard one of the things from ArtzieMusic and the lack of editing was outrageous, it's essentially stealing.

Hit Vibes is good and really fits the definition of future funk perfectly, but it's honestly a little boring. Definitions be damned, some other great albums that are future funk but aren't always given attention or don't fit the definition perfectly are:
Flamingosis - Flamingosis
Sloslylove - Can't Get Enough (pic relate, one of my faves)
Spazzkid - Desire 願う

Some great labels are Keats Collective and Business Casual. Most good future funk, nu disco, etc can be found on those two labels.

same applies for vaporwave tbqh

both are just chopped and screwed samples of old 80s music, often times being negligibly different from the original track because the "producer" is some lazy fuccboi kid. but if it sounds good, really who gives a fuck?

personally i dig future funk, but i prefer the original jap city pop/funk stuff it samples that I wouldnt have discovered without listening to macross/st pepsi/etc.

>>61881361
80s Japan was a hyperconsumerist society built upon having the latest technology and many thought they would eventually take over the US like some people think China will now.

A lot of their tech and aesthetic from that era reflected a "futuristic" sensibility that seems laughably antiquated now, but fits the neo-retro sound/aesthetic of vaporwave. Plus kanji looks cool and 99% of people can't read it so you can name your album something ridiculous.

Because it's DJ music. It's interesting and exciting the first time that you hear it and jam out to it and dance to it, but then it goes the way of a soundcloud track you listened to for a couple of days then forgot about.

That's why I'm not all about future funk, anyway. I wouldn't say that I hate it, but I really just consider it more of a style of DJing.
>>
>>61870771

It's cool that you made shit but it sounds like a cross between VHS Logos and Delroy Edwards Slowed Down Funk. The aesthetic is a little bit too cassettey for my taste. Mac+ is much more abstract, VIRTUAL is very clean and loud.

Is asking for recommendations frowned upon? I only just started listening to Vaporwave, so if someone could help me out that'd be great.

So far I've listened to pic related, Eccojams Vol. 1, Far Side Virtual, Floral Shoppe, Hit Vibes, Blank Banshee 0, Empire Building, Bae, and Sailorwave. Out of those, I probably liked Hit Vibes the most and Far Side Virtual the least.
>>
>>61879548
It's fine for what it is. It's just that it's basically Japanese pop music from the 80s with very little treatment. Thus you could theoretically just look up city pop on youtube and get an authentic experience.

My main issue with it is that it latches on to a very specific part of the narrative. Also Saint Pepsi considers himself to be an ambassador to vaporwave when he has nothing to do with it unlike OPN, Ferraro, and a Portland transvestite. He doesn't even make future funk anymore either.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RGLbFS1Y5I is the album in question. It was actually released only two months after Ecco Jams, so it's one of the earliest examples of Vaporwave out there. Pretty abstract though.

And thanks for the suggestion, by the way. Also, is Vektroid/Macintosh Plus actually a grill? Someone needs to confirm this.

Oh, I figured that it was alternate album art for skeleton. Fucking fantastic album, probably listened to it 100 times. That art is so much cooler than the mountains one imo.

Ramona Vektroid is a transgirl. I'm not an attention-seeking liberal fuck who gets behind all that to feel good about myself, but I can get behind Vektroid as the music itself is pretty genius.

thanks man I appreciate that.
i put it at a name your price because it seemed like no would want to buy an obscure album. What do you suggest I put it at?

And yeah thinking about it that was kind of a dumb choice. I was trying to do a vaporwave song of a vaporwave song to be all edgy and postmodern and stuff and thats the one everyone knows but yeah. Good idea.

Why do these faggots get away with no citing their samples? Or in this case, their blatant shitting of. And they're fucking charging for their shitty music.
You get kicked out of academia for plagiarism of the smallest degree yet these retards can steal songs, turn them into shit, and profit off of it.

yes, but not much can really capture the vibe - eyeliner's music is the only good one i can think of offhand that isn't "vaporwave-because-i-say-it-is"

This, so much. How have they not been sued? Macross is even doing fucking national shows from his stolen music. The world is upside down.

if you guys aren't fans of sampling you probably shouldn't be in a vaporwave thread
>>
>>61897266
I guess it was a pretty silly question. Of course it's possible for someone to make their own oldies inspired instrumentation, and add verious effects ect. Im sure there are some who would put in the effort.
>>
>>61897528
this is sampling:

this is talentless bullshit:
>>61893366

>>61897528
Sampling is 100% fine and cool to do.
Blatantly just taking a song, slowing it down, and then passing it off as your own is not okay.
>>
>>61898101
Future Funk kids ain't slowing down shit, just pitching it up or down by 2%.
>>
Say what you want about vaporwave/future funk but a lot of this stuff would be completely obscure outside of Japan or whatever if it wasn't for these guys.

is it still vaporwave/future funk if it used video game ost's as samples? or is there a different term for it?

A lot of vaporwave uses video game OST samples.

Vektroid and Eccojams used a lot of Sega Saturn/Genesis music for example.
>>
>>61900767
0pn didn't use sega music in eccojams
>>
>>61900767
The Sega aspect is part of the visual aesthetics for New Dreams Ltd and Chuck Person

Laserdisc Visions does have a bunch of Saturn samples on it
Floral Shoppe samples Turok 64

I wish I could support this great album, but this is also why vaporwave isn't a prospering market.

it's a forced meme that came out of reaction's to that vaporwave documentary last year where kids only found out about that album for the first time
the irony is that album was a bigger meme like 3 years before when it first hit the scene and was added to the original vaporwave chart on this board

Sloslylove is the dopest thing to come out of this genre.

I have all of his shit on my MP3 player. I never go on road trips without his Tendencies album. It's easily my favorite driving music of all time.
