I think it comes down to taste, and whether or not you like where Nirvana went with their Pixies influence.
I feel like people who value uniqueness and originality tend to favor the Pixies, but Nirvana is a melting pot of influence that Kurt channeled into something that resonated with a lot more people.

I'd say I like In Utero more than Surfer Rosa or Doolittle on an enjoyment level but that's about as much credit as I give Nirvana. I won't say that record was nearly as influential, and to be perfectly honest I kinda have difficulty actually enjoying Pixies outside of some songs like Something Against You or Monkey Gone To Heaven. They're kinda hit or miss to my ears but still better than the other Nirvana albums.
