Yeah that's my theory too. I think Avery did it but the police just really, really wanted to ensure that he was thrown in jail and were worried people would side with Avery as he was a public hero at the time and it would make sense to not believe the cops. With the whole press release thing from the get-go where they blatantly lied, it was clear that they were set on spinning public perception the opposite way. But I still think he did it.

Though I think the stuff with the nephew was BS.
