ITT: Unpopular Bowie opinions
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0syRTFF0UbQ
Personally, I like his version of "All the Young Dudes" better than Mott the hoople's. And I'm not just saying this because he died, I've always happened to feel this way.
I like the melancholy, sunset, "end of the day" feel the Bowie version has.
The only non-single/instrumental song I've heard and really liked by him is Secret Life of Arabia
Low was his best album, followed by Hunk Dory
i like nirvana's cover of TMWSTW more than the original
>>61825558
How is that unpopular?
I don't like Young Americans and he sucks at making soul music
Diamond Dogs is shit
>>61825599
That's not unpopular
>>61824737
>Secret life of arabia
>posts literally the worst song on heroes
>>61825558
every pleb thinks Hunky Dory is GOAT this is not unpopular
Station to Station had basically one compelling track
>>61825729
title track? tvc15? word on a wing?
>>61825619
That's not unpopular, but>>61825599 is.
>>61824560
Lodger is better than Heroes.
The Next Day is better than Heroes.
>>61824560
i bet you do like all the young dudes
Tonight is a more enjoyable and balanced album than Let's dance.
>>61824560
wtf??? he died?? FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
>>61825921
This is correct. Tonight is better than Let's Dance.
>based Loving the Alien
>based Dancing with the Big Boys
The only reason it gets shat on so much is because it's half a cover record, and one of the covers is the worst thing Bowie did in his whole career (God Only Knows).
>>61825958
Why do people hate that cover so much?
Station to station is his absolute masterpiece
Blackstar is his second best album
Low and Heroes are both boring dadrock albums
his top 3 songs are
Ashes to Ashes
Space Oddity
China Girl
The majority of his discography is bad
I'm not "memeing" either.
Speaking of Mott the Hoople, they were an underrated band.
Blackout is the best track on "Heroes"
>>61826106
plen
>>61826106
>Low and Heroes are both boring dadrock albums
you don't know what dadrock is do you?
I don't think dad's were hip to entire lp sides devoted to instrumental ambient pieces.
I think mu has distorted your sense of the real world
>>61824560
So, am I alone in thinking the Bowie version of this song is better? Its more emotionally rich, imo
I guess it all depends on what version you heard first.
>>61826006
Because it's bad.
>>61826067
Not that unpopular. Both records are god tier Bowie.
>>61826106
>dadrock
>China Girl
I cringed. Well baited. There's unpopular opinions, and then there's just being wrong.
Heathen is easily in his top 5.
Black Tie White Noise is one of his best albums.
>>61824737
>what is Memory Of A Free Festival
Aladdin sane isn't very good and is just a Ziggy rehash
His version of Neighborhood Threat is nowhere near as good as Iggy Pop's original version
Also Tonight is not good and if it's in your top 3 bowie albums you've probably only listened to 3 albums
>>61826510
I really like heathen too. Better than The Next Day
Outside and The Buddha of Suburbia are two of his best albums.
>>61826510
I agree.
>>61827162
That's a weird way to spell "a better, more fleshed out version of Ziggy"
>>61827162
FACT: those albums don't sound alike at all
>>61825958
cant agree honestly. Lets dance is ok, but tonight is one of the most dreadful listening experiences ever after loving the alien
>>61827211
it's a rehash but i agree it was definitely more fleshed out rehash
Space Oddity album is underrated
Bowie should have partnered with Campbells soup and released "Chunky Dory"
Diamond Dogs is fantastic.
Let's Dance is medicore.
His 90s work is great.
>>61827392
>Let's Dance is medicore.
Not unpopular at all
Blackstar is my favorite Bowie album
>>61827386
nice
Blackstar is his best album and the only one above an 8/10
>>61827420
>great opinion, actually
>>61827415
I guess. But everyone I know loves it.
Maybe they're the ones with unpopular opinions.
>>61827484
it has a lot of his hits
>Modern Love
>Let's Dance
>China Girl
>Cat People
>>61827392
Let's Dance is a funk masterpiece. When everyone else was ripping off Bowie and doing dismal synthpop or flighty artrock, Bowie delivered funk rock that sounded like nothing before.
Bowie's best work?
Helping iggy pop with lust for life
John, I'm Only Dancing is one of his best singles
>>61824560
I agree with you, it's a lot more powerful to me.
On another note, an unpopular Bowie opinion I have is that I would not only fuck David Bowie, but I would have let him fuck me too.
Marc Bolan was ultimately more important to the Glam Rock style, but Bowie was close.
i dont really like hunky dory
i really like lets dance
Aladdin Sane is the only weak point from Space Oddity to Let's Dance
>>61829666
perfect example of an unpopular opinion
it's one of his best albums imo
>>61826132
AGREE
That bass line is fucking great.
While I recognize the originality of them and the social norms they rightly broke, the looks of Ziggy and Halloween Jack, and to an extent Man Who Sold The World-era dress-wearing Bowie, are kinda cringe-inducing for me. And I don't like that that's what a lot of people who don't really listen to him associate him solely with.
>>61824560
I personally think this is his best version of the song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SnYNAxgrjo
>>61829975
I kind of agree. His theatrics were fun, but he looks so much better in normal clothes.
Every song on Ziggy is at least an 8/10
>>61829666
Is this including PinUps?
And yeah I disagree anyway, easily a top 10 Bowie album for me, only just outside my top 5 too
>>61825580
While I love the nirvana version as well, I prefer the bowie version for basically the same reason as OP pointed out about all the young dudes. The Nirvana version is pretty great, but the bowie version feels like being smashed upside the head with a heroin addiction, which i suppose should make as much sense for the nirvana version... The Bowie cut feels so desolate than the nirvana version. I also kind of think bowies version is more unique to him, while the nirvana version sounds like them playing that song, as opposed to a unique experience. On that note, slow nirvana is boring nirvana.
So yeah, anyone else like reality from 2003? Its one of my favorite of his albums from an individual song perspective, its more diverse than most bowie albums, though obviously that harms it in terms of a "concept-y" sequenced album kind of thing that a lot of the best of the bowie albums have.
Iggy's version of China Girl is way better than Bowie's
Pin Ups is pretty good
Teenage Wildlife is one of his best songs
The Next Day would be better if they replaced If You Can See Me with So She, replaced I'd Rather Be High with the Venetian Mix, and swapped You Feel So Lonely and Heat
>>61831185
I can agree with all of this.
Teenage wildlife best Heroes NA 2012, better heroes than heroes.
I didn't even know ATYD was a Mott The Hoople song.
He wrote it for them.
>>61825850
I think Heroes is one of Bowie's greatest songs, but The Next Day is a better album overall.
>>61831179
I don't like the production on the Bowie version. Especially the phaser on the vocals.
>>61831428
and sung on it for them
Drive in Saturday from Alladin Sane was originally supposed to be a Mott The Hoople song that he wrote for them but they turned it down.
>>61831479
Is that a joke about how the guy from Mott tries to copy David's vocals really hard?
>>61831492
Also Suffragette City
>>61829975
Halloween Jack is probably his cheapest looking persona, but I can't help but fall for his Ziggy-era costumes. Especially those he wore during that tour.
The Laughing Gnome is a legitimately good, enjoyable song, as is most of David Bowie (the '67 album)
johnny cash had a better death song even if it was a cover
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt1Pwfnh5pc
Glass Spider is a cool song
Let's Dance LP is horrible, and the version of Cat People on it sucks compared to the soundtrack version
1. Outside was horribly underrated
I'm Afraid of Americans isn't that great. Dead Man Walking was better.
>>61824560
This version is better. Mott the Hoople is his backing band.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rajof9Qigos
Young Americans is the best pop album of the 80s despite being released in 1975
Young Americans contains the best lyrics he has ever written.
>>61832805
And by young americans I mean the song
Space Oddity is a shit album
>>61832004
The acoustic version of Dead Man Walking is better
>>61825580
I like the Bowie remix used for MGSV more then the original, feel as if it has more depth.
>>61833887
That's a cover, not a remix.
Best version of TMWSTW is from SNL.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL-aV556HzE
Why he never sang it like that again after that I don't know.
Earthling kicks ass even if it's off its time and is really unique.
Diamond Dogs is his best glam album.
Never Let Me Down is a great record that sounds better today than it ever did in the past. Glass Spider tour redefined live performance for big touring acts.
