In general I'm into any death metal that I feel captures the raw, aggressive, and evil nature of what the genre should be. It's still my favorite genre of music in general however.

I don't like listening to over-produced and clean sounding death metal (and extreme music in general for that matter. Technical death metal bands which feature 10 minute songs consisting of neoclassical guitar solos that go on for 3 minutes, melodic death metal that tries to be Iron Maiden with raspy screams, doomier stuff that constantly tries fitting in cheap synths to make itself sound grand, one-note slam that pretends its not deathcore, and dime-a-dozen Cannibal Corpse/Bolt Thrower knock offs don't capture what I like about death metal nowadays.

Honestly death metal's making a comeback. 94 was the last consistently good year for death metal but around the late 2000's many bands started bringing back the old school sound and plenty of great albums have come out. Not to mention all the Demilich and Incantation influenced bamds that keep growing in number. The majority by in large is shit but we have plenty of great bands now (Obliteration, Horrendous, Teitanblood, Swallowed, Zealotry, The Wakedead Gathering, Howls of Ebb, Lantern, Vasaeleth, Ritual Necromancy, Ascended, Funebrarum, Hellvetron, Serpent Ascending), They're honestly might be more quality bands around now than in the 90's even if they're not as good as their predecessors.

Possessed is closer to early black metal than thrash in my opinion. Even then both genres are equally influenced by NWOBHM and speed metal. Either way, the point is that death metal didn't start out by trying to be a heavier form lf thrash, even if it ever did it was short lived considering by '89 death metal had bands that were something else completely. If you see Death as the first death metal band then sure I can see why, but I personally see Possessed and Poison as the originators of the sound.

Too noodily for my taste. Alongside that I dislike the extremely clean and polished production the bands use, if they played another genre other than death metal it wouldn't be issue. And even then dissonance isn't all I like in tech hence why I listed, Atheist, Hieronymous Bosch, Oppressor, Psycroptic, Necrophagist, and Excruciating Thoughts in tech death I like.

Muhammed can write some mean riffs. Spawn of Possession and Obscura don't capture that aggressive and heavy feel that death metal should have. Muhammed plays fast sure but he knows how to make it fit the tone of death metal. Even then Necrophagist isn't as noodily as bands like Spawn of Possession and Braun drill.
Also I like Monstrosity, dislike Mithras, and don't care for the other two.

Exodus is the only thrash there. Even then you can tell the band were influenced by other heavier acts, you don't go from Bonded By Blood and Ace of Spades to Seven Churches in one leap.
