Why does your girlfriend look like this, Montie? Also, is the AT LP-120 a good turntable?
>>
>>61814565
My gf is very pretty IMO.
Better than a hand that 4 sure.

It's a good starting turntable. Don't buy anything else.
>>
>>61814565
LP 120 is probably the best starting turntable if you're not going to thrift stores or something to buy a used vintage table

That's not much of a compliment, Montie. Why do your girlfriend's teeth look so weird?
>>
>>61814650
she looks like ryan gosling
"better than a hand"
>>
>>61814650
Her teeth look like that because she's so small and her familey can't afford braces. Her teeth used to be normal until her larger teeth came in.
She's looking into payment plans now about it.

I really think its a shitty situation and she's very insecure about it.
>>
>>61814733
Does she know that people are posting her face on /mu/? Maybe you should drop your trip so that people stop doing it.

And that girl doesn't look small to me. You should tell her to cut down on the burgers.
>>
Last night my left channel started buzzing. I thought the problem was with the RCA adapter, so I soldered a new one to the cable, but it's still buzzing. It's apparently something inside the turntable itself, which I don't want to sped the time fixing, so I ordered an LP120 to replace it last night.

This record player lasted way longer than I thought it would (got it from a flea market for ~30 and it's laster 5 years) so it's okay. Just means I can't listen to records until Tuesday.
>>
>>61814894
She's not involved in this, so I don't get why people are even doing it.
She's 4,9 and weighs about 100 pounds

>>
>>61815033
I mean I'm not a person who saves pics of her and posts them, but it's at the very least partially your fault that she's getting posted on this board.

It's your fault for tripping and releasing your personal info like a retard, not that I'm condoning the invasion of privacy that resulted in those pics.

Stop tripping though for real though. All this stuff will surely stop and people will leave you alone. This is long past the peak of "trip culture", so anyone who still has one is seen as a huge joke.

I wasn't saying that other people should or weren't responsible for violating his privacy.

Just that the fact that he's given out his personal info through sheer stupidity is his own fault in a way, and he enabled these people to dig around on his facebook and find his girlfriend.

>>
>>61817482
Mostly boils down to knowing which records are rare and which records aren't. Always price-check before buying. And if it is second hand always ask to inspect. If a record looks different from what you expected it to look like it sometimes is worth a lot more, but it requires a trained eye. Try buying from people who buy in bulk and just slap the same price on every record so you can bargain and get good prices.

The bottom one is a Mitsu disc player (so CD player)

Second from bottom is a double cassette deck (so it holds two tapes)

Third one from the bottom is the sterio tuner preamp

And the top one is a regular amplifier

ATLP-120 is the turntable hooked up to two DCM CX-17 speakers.

It's loud and works really well even though it looks super bulky.

It's a piece of shit. Buy at least the AT-LP120 or U-Turn Orbit with cue lever. You'll also need a RIAA preamp (especially for the latter), an amplifier/receiver and a pair of speakers.

If on budget, find vintage on Craigslist or locally.

Thanks, anon. That Chenaux record was my favorite of last year, and the only album I really enjoyed from last year from a musician I wasn't already aware of. Encouraged me to listen to the rest of his discog, which isn't as good, but he's on a pretty linear path of getting better to my ears; can't wait for his next effort.

Nice, got that when it was released on RSD. Make sure to put the record back in softly, the bottom is known to split very easily

i really don't have much impressive shit but a few ones i am happy i own are
NM condition Rush - 2112 from 1976
NM condition The Cure - Faith from 1981
NM condition of Rubber Soul from 1965 (in mono but the north american version)
my copies of Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother and Meddle by Pink Floyd
really nothing too impressive but those are some of my favourite ones

How do you guys acquire shit? I usually just go on discogs, ebay, or amazon and buy the shit I want but it feels... too easy, you know what I mean? I find I'm getting a lot of cool shit I like but I'm just burning cash with no effort.

I might try seeking out yardsales or thrift stores, just for the thrill of the hunt you know.
>>
>>61826473
Record stores. If I want something super unique I'll ask whoever's working there for something weird and interesting.

I'm kind of entry level <100 vinyls.
What should an entry level like me get as far as listening equipment goes, besides obvious shite like a turntable and speakers (both of which need to be replaced anyway). I get daunted by pictures like the OP's with all of them stacks of knobs and buttons and so forth. Help a newfriend out?
>Pic is recent cops
>>
>>61826527
don't be daunted by OP, he has CD receivers and tape receivers and shit, not all of it is turntable
basically you want a turntable, preamp, amplifier(so a studio system), and speakers

I know what I'd like to eventually get for a turntable but could you recommend some cheapish preamps/amplifiers? I'm also in the market for speakers but I just don't know a lot about amps.

I find good shit at thrift stores often, for $1. Recent pickups include Rush Moving Pictures, original masterdisk near mint and Journey Escape original pressing also near mint for $1 each.

this preamp is pretty good, not too expensive, you could probably find a cheaper one if $40 is too much

Look for something at thrift stores. Might take a few weeks to find something decent, but often early 90s good recievers show up for $15 at goodwill. I passed on a nice Onkyo reciever today since I don't need one, $15, and it looked like new.

Phono. I tested all of the inputs by connecting something else to them, and it does the same thing through all of them. My speakers and turntable work just fine with my Technics receiver.

It's only worth that much to someone that would pay that much for that record, no one would pay that much for that record unless they were a DG fan, if they're a DG fan they don't really care that much about music. It's a Catch 22.

The $200 Exmilitary comments were directed to >>61830728 specifically.

To address you two's comments: If the copy of the album's a bootleg, why is it being flaunted as a "prized piece"? Bootlegs of ExM go for the price of your average record, and are just about as common.

Long story short, >>61818217 post is absolute nonsense and completely unnecessary.

He replied to a post asking what "your most prized piece in your collection" is, and in his reply he posted a picture of a collection of unmentionable albums with a copy of Exmilitary in the center of the picture. How is it not being flaunted as a "prized piece"? And even if you are right and it isn't being touted as a "prized piece" then why did he even post the picture in question in this thread?

may I ask what the point is? I have all of my favorite music on FLAC, and it didn't cost me a dime. is it really worth hundreds of dollars to you to be able to collect your music in a physical format? how is it any difference from spending tons of cash on baseball or magic cards or some other collection? I can see maybe wanting a copy of your favorite album to hang on the wall as decor or something, but not a whole collection. why do you do it, /mu/? I get that there's some intangible draw, but it's expensive and I can't see any reason to get into it. do you really enjoy it that much? why?
>>
>>61832063
>FLAC

I bought 2 records for $4 yesterday and one the other day for 99 cents. It's not that bad. You physically have something and you can enjoy the hell out of having to handle something and take care of something.
It's also a social thing. You have to go out and buy vinyl in a store. You can make some great friendships.
>>
>>61831943
It's the equivalent of buying that one of a kind Wu-Tang album and posting that you have it, even though everyone knows that Wu-Tang hasn't produced anything of any worth since '97. Yeah it's rare, and worth a lot of money, but it's not a good album.
>>
>>61832151

It's your opinion man, you don't have to go full autistic
>>
>>61832063
I like going to the shop and buying a record that I think might be neat and finding out I really like it
>>
>>61832063

>is it really worth hundreds of dollars to you to be able to collect your music in a physical format?
Yes

>how is it any difference from spending tons of cash on baseball or magic cards or some other collection?
None

What's wrong with collecting? But unlike baseball cards, you also get music in it.
