Van Dyke Parks had all the creativity and music sense of Brian Wilson and more but somehow didn't ruin his life and turn into a vegetable. This is the man you should be worshipping.

anybody else notice they picked an asian to play him in the Brian Wilson biopic? Very bizarre
Song Cycle is better than anything the Beach Boys ever produced. It's an album that took me a long time to get into but I realized one day listening to it that every single decision made on that record is not a decision I'd make. I have no idea how he had the imagination to create it. The All Golden is masterful.
That on top of his work with Happy End, Joanna Newsom, etc. Makes him much better than Brian Wilson who really had a short streak and then a cool back story about "le troubled artist". VDP put in work and has a discography that shows it, Brian Wilson definitely made some next-level stuff but people like the story more than anything.

I honestly feel like he did a solid job emulating young Parks' "properness". I wish he had a stronger role in the film.
You have to remember that Brian was already susceptible to mental illness and was surrounded by shitty peopl who made it worse

I'm sorry but Brian Wilson/The Beach Boys are so fucking overrated, Pet Sounds is a 7/10 at best and Smile is like an 8, but Parks has multiple 8.5s and 9s.
