I would never listen to music that I can relate to, regardless of my life state. You should constantly be challenging your world view or else you'll just stagnate.

hey man that shit is rough. I'm not personally bipolar but my sister is type 2 and I've seen how it has affected her throughout the years. I am not sure what type of music you listen too but at her lowest she would always listen to city and colour. For my personally when I'm feeling down I usually listen to something to pick me up. Try Common - Be. When I feel like wallowing in self-pity usually I listen too bright eyes - i'm wide awake and it's morning.
