Glad you had this thread up. It's been almost a week and I'm almost in tears. Listening to Bowie on Vinyl right now and I almost can't believe how sad I am about it all. I was certain he was going to rise again from the grave... but then he didn't. The man was so good. The songs were top tier and I never realized how much of an influence he had on me until he passed. I know this doesn't matter in the long run, but I miss him already. David Bowie was an artist and David Bowie is dead.

Long Live David Bowie.

Fantastic version

I've still been doing nothing but listening to his stuff. Going through Youtube finding live versions of his tracks, he really kicked ass in the 2000's. He only got better with age.

I'm still reading the news about him. It's sad as hell seeing all this love for him now that he's gone, So many kind things have been said that I wish he was around to hear.

I'm making it my goal to get through all of David Bowie's 75 favorite books. If anyone wants to see them they're here: https://www.brainpickings.org/2013/10/03/david-bowie-reading-list/

Honestly, I listened to Bowie a bit when I was 16-20 but grew out of him. He had a few catchy hits but ultimately he was more style than substance, and his gimmick was that he sang blatantly obvious metaphors for drugs that were probably edgy at the time but are tacky today. But it's always sad that someone died I guess.

>>
>>61807633
yes, mostly because of the way it went down - without any advance notice (to the public) and just days after the release of a sort-of concept album about death and dying. would have felt said about almost any high-profile musician under those circumstances... to bowie's credit, though, no other musician has ever cared so much about his art to make such a profound final statement and probably no one ever will. some day in the near future i predict a bowie bio-pic will be made specifically focussing on the last year of his life and the making of this album

All I'll say about the books is don't force it. I'm doing it too and just because he liked them doesn't mean you should. Bowie would want you forging your own path, not meticulously following his.

It pleases me so much that his favourite magazines are mine too. Viz and Private Eye.
>>
What did he mean by this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Nnw0qhqvYI
>>
David Bowie would want me to be creative so I started the script I've been putting off for months. Going quite well so far.

It's been a good way of keeping me occupied in my free time.

It's a three part miniseries.

Exactly. I've never been Bowie Fan #1 but even before I was interested in music as a kid Heroes and Changes were my favourite songs from the age of about five or six. No musician has had a greater presence in my life for so long. I was a nerdy kid that liked strange things and I could turn to Bowie to be reminded that that was perfectly fine.

Same here, if it wasn't for all those memories of listening to his music and watching his movies I would've never done that tribute video. To me, it's a personal reminder of all the good times I had with his music back then

I'll watch the video later. I've seen disappointingly few of his films but Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence has always been a favourite of mine.

I was really hoping for a cameo in the new Twin Peaks. A damn shame, but I'm grateful for what we had.
>>

>>
>>61807633
Ziggy Stardust was the first song I learned when I started learning guitar years ago. I started performing and even though I would get unto other styles of music, I'd always go back to his. I followed his interviews and Facebook etc, where he would often promote obscure artists and I would follow up with those because if Bowie said they had a certain quality, you knew they were awesome. Through his influence my musical roledex grew and I started picking up different instruments. I've never been affected by a celebrity death before. I always dreamed of seeing him live. It might seem silly to others, after all its not like we could call him up for coffee or cry on his shoulder, but the nature of his celebrity meant that his true fans knew him personally, and he will be missed.
>>
>>61808537
It looks like someone collaged someone elses right eye in but did it upside down

>>
>>61812528
Be confident with it. I have white eyelashes on one eye. People point it out and I just say "yeah I know" and don't let it phase me.

Bowie didn't make it cool, he just didn't let it define him. Nor should you. You're still amazing, no matter what. The mirror is your enemy. When you leave the house in the morning your hir could be a mess, you could have missed a spot when you shaved last night but that doesn't change who you are.

Confidence with what you've got makes you a better person than self-deprecation because of what you haven't got.

I've been listening to a lot of bowie, started about a month before he died and I'm curious. Where did he learn to write music? Life On Mars has some really strange chords thrown into it that give it a jazz vibe.

Where can I learn to do this?

His music was huge for some of us, and at least an early access point for almost all of us.

With his death, people are uncovering his whole discography, and as it turns out, most of us are resonating with it because his work was absolutely incredible.

It's cool that you don't necessarily like him, but for right now, people are enjoying talking about an artist that, in general, is being rediscovered. If it bothers you, just hide the threads.

never realised i can be so sad for a person i never met
>>
My first reaction was surprise.

My second one was admiration, considering how great his career had been and how he was able to get on top again at the very end. This man really knew how to do it and I have a lot of respect for him. Started strong, kept changing, trying new things and often succeeding, ended with a bang.

I associated death with closure more than sadness.
