I got my hifi for free

But you could probably build a decent one for a couple hundred bucks at second hand store.

It still makes me catious that I discuss music on a board where people could be judging music on Apple earphones. There's nothing wrong with listening to music like that but to say whether music is shit or not based on whats coming out of those shitty little speakers probably speaks a fair amount on why /mu/ is so jaded towards certain artists and genres.

Got these babies a few weeks ago, my first proper speakers. They are spaced further apart now, really gives depth to the music, I love em.

I started out with a system that cost me £500.. which at the time was an awful lot of money to me. I sourced used parts and for a while I was really happy with it..... then i gradually upgraded , again sourcing used separates.

its not as exclusive as it seems. I've even built a couple of bits and pieces (pre amps, speakers)

Your music would have to be extremely shit and have the best production in the world if the difference to enjoying it is the headphones you're using.

Aside from Steely Dan, audiophiles usually have shit taste in music.

the cost aspect is a bit a moot point.... a hi-fi of second hand components that will give a satisfying result can be had for a few hundred dollars if you look around on craiglist ebay etc.... given that there is a considerable amount of "young 'uns" that will happily spend hundreds of dollars on headphones+pre-amps etc I'd argue that cost isn't the most significant aspect at all. Music listening habits have drastically changed over the past two decades. By in large people listen to music on headphones whilst engaged with their computer/phone/laptop alone....hi-fi's don't have a place in these listening practises.

yea... okay "hifi"

you go ahead and tell yourself that

I have a trust fund and I'm sure as shit not going to buy something like your picture. I paid $100 for speakers and took my dad's vintage Sony turntable and Yamaha receiver.

I wouldn't even buy that Eames lounger and it looks a lot more appealing than the stereo does.

While you're upgrading your room you should get some new curtains.
>>
>>61790916
pioneer isn't even midfi....

the best is vastly subjective, but a good starting point is stuff like teac's reference, peachtree, nad, etc. and going up from there.

McIntosh, Luxman, etc are getting into the midrange of hifi.

Mark Levinson, Burmester, Pathos, etc at the top end.

Pioneer (outside of TAD) are not even on the same black never mind the same room as real hifi.

Have you actually heard anything even half decent? Because if you think pioneer is hifi I'm having a very hard time believing you have even been in the same room as decent equipment.
>>
>>61790474
why do people get keyboards
>>
Not that much sense in spending huge amounts of money on speakers when 99% of room acoustics are extremely bad.
>>
>>61790652
Some people listen to music, some people listen to stereos.

this is what annoys me most with 'audiophiles'

I have a couple of nice floorstanding Bowers & Wilkins, but I find myself using them less and less since my listening room is fucking horrible. Standing waves and phase cancelation all over.

Listening to music on speakers versus headphones is a whole different experience, I tend to stand up in the middle of the room and sort of dance or nod my head.

Pluss that with large enough speakers or a good subwooder set up correctly, you feel it physically almost as much as you hear it.
>>
>>61791109
DPS is a joke. It's the equivalent of saying to people to "just EQ it!" when you're actually not fixing anything.

Room acoustics are legit. I got some moniters a few weeks back, but I end up still producing on headphones because of their placement and reverb in my room.
>>
>>61791574
you would be surprised over how much music in shitty quality I can enjoy just because of the music.

And I dont talk about flac vs mp3 etc, I talk about cellphone recording quality.

So yeah, I listen to music.

I like music. I've heard music through $5,000 systems, and it doesn't make me enjoy music any more than playing mp3s through $70 speakers. Why should I spend more money for no more additional enjoyment, and a lot of shit I don't want taking up space?

The highest quality system I have ever owned is an Onkyo HTP-360, and the best headphones I could find for less than 100 bucks are my Pioneer HDJ-500s. What do you recommend for a poorfag?
