This is not a bait.

Pinkerton is just fucking awful.

People like this?
The only moments that don't physically hurt are Butterfly and the Good Life, and that's only because the rest of the album is fucking awful.

From the first line of the album I knew. I kept going out of morbid curiosity.

With lyrics like "Just want to admit that I want sugar in my tea, hear me, I want sugar in my tea," it became completely clear. Rivers Cuomo can't write a song to save his life.

agreed only the first 30 seconds of that album and its cover art are redeemable

Yeah that's the appeal. Rivers wrote some of the most revealing, almost embarrassing beta lyrics on Pinkerton that I relate to.

Are you implying El Scorcho isnt a god tier weezer track? Come on man

It's a great album for guys aged 16-20. After that age it starts to seem a little silly, I agree. Still a solid album, though. My enjoyment of the Blue Album hasn't decreased over the years, though.

Man, you don't have to be a specific age to like any kind of music. That's not what I'm trying to say. I'm saying that, for a lot of guys on here, they found it when they were young and beta and sad about girls like Rivers was so they could identify with the lyrics really hard.

Top three Weezer songs OAT:

1. Say It Ain't So
2. Tired of Sex
3. Surf Wax America

And OP doesn't like ToS.

Get the fuck out.

Weezer are literal dogshit. Absolutely terrible band made by awful people who are doing all they can to set back civilization.

Yeah. Weezer were never good. Basic bitch 90s rock over bad adolesence-obsessed lyrics that someone should promptly discard once they reach their the age of 18.

If you legit don't like the Blue album you're a straight up pleb.

Disliking any other Weezer album is understandable but Blue? No.

Say It Ain't So is Weezer's only 10/10 track but it's still a 10/10 whether you like the band or not. Disliking an album with a undeniable 10/10 track is just broadcasting your pleb status.

Basically, get out.

Falling for You is objectively a good song.

>This is what Weezer fans actually believe.

It's one of their more tolerable tracks but 10/10? Did you just get into music a couple of months ago? It's 6/10 when I'm in a extremely good mood and it was barely 7.5/10 when I was an underage pleb who wasn't even into music that much. The Blue Album is their best but it's still insipid 90s rock you can get from nearly any other throwaway band during that time.

But I'll take your bait, what makes Say It Ain't So a 10/10?
>>
Is it safe to say that Weezer is the most divisive band that gets discussed on here? For every thread I see talking about how great Blue or Pinkerton is I see another talking about how awful they are. I understand that Weezer aren't for everyone but in posts like these people seem genuinely insulted that someone else could possibly find their music enjoyable.

K, samefag.

Yes, Say It Ain't So is a 10/10.

It's got a classic riff, classic vocal. It's a staple by this point.

It's a 10/10 in that any music staple is. As backwards as it may sound, just listen to the radio. They might play a lot of shit, but the things that never leave rotation are classics. End of story.

What do you think constitutes a 10/10? And I'm not interested in hearing what shit indie band that you love is deserving of a 10/10 that only you enjoy. It has to be something even a pleb could get into. It has to be undeniable.

>What do you think constitutes a 10/10?

I don't believe in 10/10. I don't think art can ever be perfect because it is humans that make it and humans are flawed creatures, therefore so is art. All I have for my 9/10's are classical (Stravinsky, Beethoven, Holst, Pendereckdi, etc) and 1 jazz record being A Love Supreme. Some of my 8/10 are popular music but that is beside the point

>It has to be something even a pleb could get into. It has to be undeniable.

This description of a 10/10 (assuming their is such a thing) is reductive because while some works of art can be easy to understand and digest while still being great, there are other great works of art that take time to analyze. Someone inexperienced with a medium of art shouldn't be the ones to judge it. Also, this world has different people with different outlooks so the quality of a work being "undeniable" is near impossible

>They might play a lot of shit, but the things that never leave rotation are classics. End of story.

Yes, they are classics. But that doesn't conclude that a work is flawless or near-flawless. If someone criticizes "Money" by Pink Floyd for dragging too long because of the solo overstaying its welcome, you may have differing views, but the criticism is no less valid or invalid if something DSOTM was never popular and no one knew what it was.

>It's got a classic riff, classic vocal. It's a staple by this point

I don't think that's grounds for a 10/10. There are plenty of songs on the radio right now with catchy riffs and catchy vocal hooks, yet I wouldn't give anything a 7/10, much less a 10/10. Catchy riffs and hooks can potentially make a good song, but they aren't one in the same. Advertisement jingles are catchy, but very few people would consider them good. Say it Ain't So may have a catchy riff and hook, but that's all it really has going for it. Otherwise, it's a fairly standard and quite boring alt rock song.

teenage boys do.
Them and people who are still mentally teenagers.

I'm not interested in the discussion of absolute perfection in terms of a pop rock band.

My rating has nothing to do with how Weezer compares to every other artist on the planet. The 10/10 rating has more to do with it's specific cultural influence. It's a song that compares to other classic, continually celebrated tracks in pop music in North America.

Will it have the same influence in the long term as some more current musical innovators like say Philip Glass or Glenn Branca? No. But I'm not comparing Weezer to them. I think you took that rating as much more absolute than it was intended.

It's a song that if it didn't get a Billboard #1 it most definitely deserved it, and it's clearly culturally significant because it has withstood the test of time.

If you don't believe in a Ten then your scale is out of 9. So your 9/9s are the same as what most people refer to as 10/10 because it doesn't imply perfect. Please rethink breathing.
