James Labrie is doing all of the characters' voices... which means he'll be imitating a woman as he sings, and using different exaggerated voices for different songs. Why they didn't get guest vocalists is beyond me.
As autistic as they are, Dream Theater are an old favorite so I'll give this a fair shot. Generally bands won't put out double albums or concept albums unless they're confident in what they're writing, so it'll probably at least be better than the s/t album.

I've seen Fate's Warning circlejerked regularly in /metal/ general for almost 3 years, and before /metal/ general was even a thing they were constantly brought up in Prog metal threads. Fate's Warning's one of the best prog bands of the 80s alongside Savatage and Voivod, lad. Maybe X Japan if you consider them progressive.
