Marry Me

Shut the fuck up, you know what I mean. What's the most pleb album of hers that even normies can like
>>
>>61774299
all of them really
kid cudi sampled the strangers like long ago for his 2nd album

Just because she isn't getting radio play 24/7 doesn't mean her music isn't hard for "normies"
>>
>>61774299
all of her albums are pleb and she is liked by normies
>>
>>61774171
give me one songb by st vincent with an interesting chord structure and a good vocal line.

because so far i haven't heard one & i honestly think she's a complete hack. not just a bad guitarist, but an awful songwriter too.
>>
>>61774171
Ok, what's her most "accessible" album.

Just help me out guys please :(
>>
I'm a fucking normie and the only track of hers that I could actually get into was Cruel, so maybe Strange Mercy might be what you're looking for, OP
>>
>>61774299
literally all of, it is pure pop, the fucking Beatles are less accessible

I know her music very well, so: her most accessible / poppy album is her self titled by far. The next one is Actor.

Your Lips Are Red. If you don't like this song you're a complete pleb.

St. Vincent (the album). Just listen to it (it's fairly short anyway).

Strange Mercy is a bit difficult for newcomers.

You seem the dense one. That song has both things.

Another one: Huey Newton. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gD-jD5f84w
>>
>>61776050
its just watered down kate bush with layers of instruments with quirky effects on to try and make it sound more interesting than it actually is
>>
>>61776016
Let me explain to you, dummy. St. Vincent is a patrician musician, a true artist that makes unique, interesting and exciting music. She's not afraid to play guitar for Taylor Swift or to collaborate with Swans or David Byrne. She can create catchy songs (Cruel) or experimental songs (Grot). She does whatever she likes.

Basically shut up pleb.
>>
>>61776107
she has never written a decent melody in her life. her chord structures (if at all existing) are completely unimaginative. she cannot at all play the guitar. this woman is the biggest hack in music of the 21st century. sorry mate.
>>
>>61776091
Why do you compare her with Kate Bush, when her music is clearly different? Watered down my ass.

>layers of instruments with quirky effects on to try and make it sound more interesting than it actually is
Do you realize that this thing could be used against Kate Bush as well? /mu/ being contrarian once again.
>>
>>61776107
>She can create catchy songs (Cruel) or experimental songs (Grot)

anybody can make experimental songs

i've listened to her "experimental" stuff

its shite

as much as she wants to be she doesn't have the talent to create any experimental music thats worthwhile

the woman is a one trick pony and her one trick isnt even that impressive
>>
>>61774299
Honestly OP, St Vincent is accessible as fuck. There's not a defying thing in any of her records.
>>
>>61776148
Contrarian. Are you a music critic?
>>
>>61776154
honestly you didnt respond with a single piece of a credible argument

you literally said

>you are wrong because i think so and Kate Bush did the same but i wont provide any evidence
>>
>>61776196
>Are you a music critic?

obvisouly.
>>
I consider myself a normie and St. Vincent didn't work for me at all.
I have always put her under ''weirdos music''
But maybe she's just bad.
>>
I haven't listened to much of her stuff but I like her self-titled quite a bit. I like how she has kind of a mix of old and new pop thrown in together with the electronic beats and guitar-led melodies

But to answer the OP, I'd say the self-titled is probably the most accessible. Some of her other stuff is a bit more artsy sounding but I mean I doubt people would get weirded out by any of her albums
>>
>>61776162
You're such a try hard. The good thing is that your opinion is irrelevant.

>>61776183
You didn't even listen to her music. I can't take you seriously with that pathetic argument.
>>
>>61776249
>But maybe she's just bad.

not maybe, definitely. in ten years time she'll be completely forgotten. not that she is well-known today.
>>
>>61776239
You must be a shitty one if you can't hear anything interesting in her music. Or plain deaf.

There's a reason that her music is so acclaimed: it's great.
>>
>>61775866
WHY DID YOU MAKE A CHART

SHE HAS FOUR ALBUMS JUST LISTEN TO THEM ALL OR DON'T
>>
>>61776050
I don't think you know what you're talking about. The core of the song is essentially just an extended drone à la Faust or TVU. There isn't really any kind of harmonic progression at all until the extended coda. The vocal melody is also pretty simplistic, she basically repeats the same simple phrase of mostly stepwise motion in quarter notes over and over.

The main interesting thing about that song is Mike Garson's free jazz-inflected piano playing and the discordant string arrangement, and the way they interact with each other as the song progresses. Like I said, it's a good song, but not at all what he asked for.
>>
>>61776270
>not maybe, definitely. in ten years time she'll be completely forgotten. not that she is well-known today.
Keep dreaming kid. She's more and more known and she will probably work with Brian Eno next. She's a legend in the making, mark my words.
>>
>>61776274
no, mate, honestly i prefer good songwriting. i'll say it again: she doesn't into chords, she doesn't into vocal melody, she cannot at all play her instrument, and she isn't much of a singer either (in fact, she completely sucks at singing as well)... so where do we go from here?

if you are not deaf, you simply have shit taste.
>>
>>61776252
its sad watching St Vincent fans trying to defend their waifu

>no you're wrong, you're such a tryhard your opinion is irrelevant
so is yours welcome to /mu/ you cunt

>you didn't even listen to her music

>>61776274
>you must be shit if you can't see she's objectively great

>there's a reason her music is so acclaimed
and its because she is a pop musician who has worked around legends and popstars while creating nothing worthwhile on her own
>>
>>61776292
Because there are threads like this. It's important to start with the right album. Plus there are some extra releases besides these 5 albums (you forgot that collab album dude).

You don't like her music. Your criticism is totally subjective dude (so it's mine, but it's supported by the general consensus). I think you're a bit mad because you can't get into her music. Don't worry, she will not be panned because you hate her.

>>61776374

I really really like its style

less "noise rock", more orchestration and softer vocals

Way to trivialize your argument by playing the waifu card. A red card basically. It makes you look like an idiot.

>and its because she is a pop musician who has worked around legends and popstars while creating nothing worthwhile on her own
What a crappy opinion. Her solo albums were made by her and don't feature any legend or popstar on them (the only exception: that collab album with Byrne).

The acclaim is based ironically on that "nothing worthwhile on her own". She's acclaimed for her work, not for extra stuff.

Take a look on the credits of her debut album and see how many instruments she played:

>Annie Clark – vocals, guitars, bass guitar, piano, organ, Moog, synthesizers, melodica, xylophone, vibraphone, dulcimer, drum programming, triangle, percussion

Also she wrote ALL her songs (few of them were co-written).
>>
>>61776148
Did you listen to these songs?
>>61774623
>>
>>61776404
Nope. Be sure to follow her next album's release. You'll see how big she will be. The trend is ascending for her.
>>
>>61776502
>piano, organ, Moog, synthesizers, melodica, xylophone, vibraphone
>counting these as seperate instruments when you know she played them all with no real skill beyond being able to play basic melodies on them

>she wrote all her songs

thats why they're all terrible

he doesn't need to create good music to reach her status she literally just has to hang around with the people she has been hanging around with (cara, taylor swift, david byrne)

and because she is appearing in relevant media, is convetnionally attractive and sounds slightly experimental you cunts eat that shite right up.

mate you and me would both be as famous and acclaimed as her if we had her friends

Are you're trolling? Why it's so hard to grasp this simple concept that some people actually like her music? Maybe her music isn't for you; that is not a reason to talk shit about her artistry.

A much productive idea would be to try to get into her music. Is not that hard.

>Way to trivialize your argument by playing the waifu card. A red card basically. It makes you look like an idiot.

i love the way St Vincent fans try to find any way they can too discard somebodies argument so they don't have to try and prove Clarke is more than a talentless pop musician

seen it done so many times in this very thread

>>61776674
the thing is I don't even hate her music it's ok

but you lot treat her like a living legend when in reality she's your standard pop princess

usually poptimists understand this (and i dont mind poptimists) but fuck me you are dim
>>
>>61776734
cringe
Does Vinnie pay you to do this?
>>
>>61776746
I love the way the anti-St. Vincent trolls try so much to discard any reasonable argument that she's actually great. Sorry, but you have to deal with it: she's actually great.

>but you lot treat her like a living legend when in reality she's your standard pop princess
She's a living legend though. She achieved a lot since she started and she's the best Bowie successor possible. She's the pop princess in the same way Kate Bush is. I'm 100% sure that her profile will raise a lot if she keeps making great music (so far not even one bad album).

Just the simple fact that she's mentioned often in the same sentences with Kate Bush or Bjork speaks volume about her importance.
