The 5 stages of a /mu/tants taste in critics
Stage 1 - Pitchfork
Stage 2 - Fantano
Stage 3 - Scaruffi
Stage 4 - Lol I'm to good for my opinions to be challenged
Stage 5 - Christgau
I am stage 6, just straight up being right.
Hourly reminder that Centipede Hz is Animal Collective's best record to date.
>>61756238
So Stage 6 is being a Contrarian.
>>61756238
that's just flat out wrong
unless you barely like anco in the first place
>>61756659
anco is my favorite band, so I think I know what I'm talking about fa m
>>61756238
So you are Stage 4, I see.
Stage 6 is AntiWarhol. The final boss of musical discovery.
Stage 6 is Chris Ott
>>61756069
Stage 1: /mu/core
Stage 2: Scaruffi/Christgau
Stage 3: my own damn tastes
I'm not sure who keeps posting these threads but we've already reached a consensus multiple times that while Christgau can occasionally be very clever, his extremely vague and needlessly convoluted reviews scream of him being an edgelord. Please stop.
>tfw Christgau gives your favorite album two apples and a percent symbol
Stage 6 is leaving /mu/ and beginning a new life, uncaring of others opinions.
>>61758369
that is literally stage 4 you child
Pitchfork and Fantano are both Stage 1 honestly
rank 1- fantano
rank 2- pitchfork
rank 3- mark prindle
rank 4- scaruffi
rank 5- avant-teen
rank 6- poptimism
rank 7- bleepfag
rank 8- trad folk fag
rank 9- classical fag
rank 10- metalfag

Kek
>>61756069
>Stage 6 - Not giving a fuck
Stage 3.5 - RYM
I went 5-1-2-3. probably will be 30 when I reach stage 4
Stage 6 - You know so much about musical critiquing, you rely on your own knowledge and start your own youtube channel/magazine/blog on musical criticism.
>>61760284
Thats Stage 50 man, still need to go through the I only listen to Shoegaze, All of Pink Floyds albums are great and a bunch of other weird phases before then.
>>61760440
>tfw I started my pink floyd phase before my shoegaze one
>Christgau
Does anybody actually like this guy unironically? All of his reviews are nebulous as fuck.
the only acceptable stage to be at is to use all internet music resources as supplements to find new music - not to build your taste around - along with discussion with people irl, shows, & trying stuff that looks interesting to you at record stores
>>61760469
same
The fact that so many /mu/tants still name Robert Christgau as "the worst or least significant or least influential" rock critic ever only tells you how far /mu/ still is from becoming a serious place to discuss music. r/music has long recognized that the worst critics of all times are Fantano and literally anyone on p4k, who are famous on /mu/ and get posted all the time. Even tumblr ranks the highly controversial Christgau over the fucking retards who are highly popular in threads on /mu/. /mu/tants are still blinded by their own faggotry. Christgau listened to more albums than anyone else (true, by the way), therefore he's the greatest. r/music users grow up listening to a lot of Christgau-core, tumblr users grow up listening to a lot of Christgau-core. /mu/tants are often totally ignorant of Christgau, they barely know his best reviews. No wonder they think that Robert Christgau didn't do anything worthy of being saved.
>>61757158
you mean stage 6 is autism unleashed? pretentious avant-faggotry?
i guess i'm stage 7 because i no longer share my taste with this shit board in hopes of validation but rather listen to w/e i like and keep it to myself
in another world Christgau is the primary tastemaker of /mu/ and we never stop talking about M.I.A. and The New York Dolls.
>>61760918
we did talk about MIA for a while, but for all the wrong reasons
>>61756069
I never had Fantano
He's decent but anybody that seriously follows his word as seriously as people do to p4k or Scaruffi lose a lot of credibility
>>61760918
That doesn't sound too bad
"Christgau readily admits to having prejudices and generally disliking genres such asart rock, progressive rock..."
Op is jocking right?
>>61760939
i hope we can talk about her album later this year without that kind of shitposting.
>>61760017
Kek as a metalfag
Metal should be stage 6 or 7
I never had P4k or Fantano phases mine were worse
MTV 2
NME
Quietus
Rym
Prog Archives
Metallum
>>61761065
>NME
ewww
Christgau rates classics B's and gives Lil Wayne A-, I mean does anybody take this guy seriously
>>61760689
>Christgau listened to more albums than anyone else (true, by the way), therefore he's the greatest.
I've listened to around 11 000 albums (according to last.fm) in the past 8 years. Am I now the greatest?
>>61761163
Lil Wayne was the best rapper in the world for a while
>>61761181
links or it didn't happen faggot
>>61761065
How is quietus worse than p4k or fantano?
>>61761163
What if he's right and you're wrong
>>61761198
http://www.last.fm/user/celer2008
Christgau is by far my favorite critic even though I disagree with him quite a lot.
Why is he my favorite then, you might ask. Well the answer is simple; I can respect another's (stupid) opinion. Something most of /mu/ seems to lack.
>>61761225
fake and gay

yeah, you scrobbled 1159 times in one day, totally legit
>>61761270
That was an experiment. All tracks under 1:30. I wanted to hear as many different sounds as possible under LSD. I still do it sometimes.
>>61761042
You mean stage 0
>>61761181
christgau is listening to music since 50+ years. He has probably heard more than 11000 albums.
I think he said he listens to music for 12 to 18 hours a day.
>>61761328
I'm pretty much set with 12 to 18 hours a day, but he's got me on the years. I'll report back in 2058.
