Fripp's guitar on Fashion is pretty damn inspired. Such an unusual way to come at something which would have otherwise just have been a decent disco song.
Maybe? People only ever talk about Rio
Okay, it's not as objectively good as the earlier ones but it's catchy as fuck.
Meddle
>not Earthling
Scary Monsters is 10/10 imo.
The Blue Oyster Cult guy did balls up the production somewhat, but this is definitely a gem that a lot of people overlook.
>inb4 Sandinista, it is rated perfectly fairly generally, just admit it has some major flaws
>>61739211
Earthling is not a good album
>>61739211
Heck Scary Monsters has one of his most popular and highly rated songs on it.
>Bowie album between 1969-1983
>Underrated
Pick one

Diamond Dogs
>>61739352
I love Diamond Dogs, I'm not sure why so many people think it's just alright
>>61739313
i think Diamond Dogs is underrated
i think it's in his top 3
>>61739313
Besides ashes to ashes and fashion, the album is relatively underrated
>>61739371
It was stuck in the middle of Bowie's transition from glam rock to funk and krautrock.
>>61739390
It is in itself a unique album though, the slow soul ambiance and sexiness of Young Americans mixed with the glammy rock and roll from Aladdin Sane
>>61739206
Woah, I've never looked closely at this album cover and always thought it was a sheet of warped industrial metal. I never noticed the hair, what is actually being photographed here?
>>61739390
i thought it was a good transition to soul, it sounds very thematic and also has a lot of saxaphone.
Also, Diamond Dogs should be known as one of his greatest creations because he produced the album on his own and played lead guitar AND sax throughout the album.
Oh, and Sweet thing has the best Bowie vocals ever recorded
>>61739488
ear.
i always thought its a camels head
>>61739488
I think its an ear.
>>61739185
>I Get Wild comes on
>>61739505
I like how its a mixture of his glam rock stuff along with almost a rock opera feel like The Wall by Pink Floyd.
It is definitely unappreciated. A lot of Bowie albums are.
>>61739002
GOT TO GETITUP
>>61739507
I guess I never saw the whole cover before. It all makes sense now.

>>61738986
not as underrated as this
>>61739380
That's a fair point especially with Teenage Wildlife for me. What I was mostly getting at is that Scary Monsters is a album that receives praise and exists in the public conscience. Compare that to an album like Buddha of Suburbia which to most people does not even exist. Before I started browsing on /mu/ it seemed as if Bowie died in 1986 with no media or fans even acknowledging he made music after Blue Jean or maybe his songs in Labyrinth.
>nearly every review since black tie white noise has "Best since scary monsters".
>Underrated

>>61739363
Man, none of these are underrated at all, these all get the praise they deserve. Theyre all good albums but not great albums
>>61739651
which album do you think mostly lives up to that quote in Bowie's discog?
>>61739666
But Satan, Burzum is Classic Rock now.
>>61739337
wtf this is and filosofem tend to be considered his best
>>61739651
Yeah he just kept getting better and better
>>61739673
Probably Blackstar actually. I don't think that's just because of his death either. Though I think I only saw one review saying the scary monsters thing for this one so they blew their last chance
>>61739175
Seven and the Ragged Tiger is awesome too; Rio never really rocks the fuck out like the other two.
>>61739721
tfw he never surpassed scary monsters in reviewers eyes
Scary Monsters isn't underrated, nearly every time an album came out since a critic would call it "his best since scary monsters" And it's generally considered his last great album by casual fans.
>>61739625
This. And Buddha.
Psychedelic Coil was the best
>>61739651
https://youtu.be/Qqq0vWftKsc?t=10m51s from the horse's mouth too.

Most people that know Rhcp don't value this album for what it's worth.
>>61739817
nice meme
>>61739296
I liked it a lot
>>61739488
It's an ear underwater
>>61739666
Not one of the songs is ever heard on the radio, that makes it underrated enough for me
>>61739817
No it was good I liked it

I was about to post this, nice.

>>61739940
It's the nipple rings right? They throw me off too don't worry
>>61739185
This is a great album, it's just unfortunate that Stop Making Sense rendered it obsolete. All of the good songs on SiT are rendered much better on SMS and the rest really aren't that great.
>>61738986
Up the Hill Backwards is the only good song on that
>>61739167
my negro. plenty of good songs but it gets overshadowed by Never for Ever and The Kick Inside.
>>61739980
Agreed
>>61739554
Wow I've never noticed before
Bowie has a ton
>Station to Station
>Earthling
>Reality
>Black Tie White Noise
>Tonight, IMO
>>61741080
Swamp is worse on SMS, the synth sounds like shit.
>>61739666
"underrated" means absolutely nothing these days.
can we remind /mu/ that there is a difference between "underrated" and "well rated but isn't talked about often"
What about a new Bowie meme?

>>61741763
It's surprising how many people don't seem to grasp the basic concept of over/underrated. So many times I see someone post
>it's not overrated, it really is good!

Scary Monsters is anything but overrated, it gets all the credit it deserves
BTWN, Outside and Earthling are the real underdogs
>>61743300
My nigga. Check out world's end girlfriend
>>61748482
That's because BTWN and Earthling are horrible
>>61748694
Earthling is a classic, you really need to dive into electronic music from around that time. You wont be so stupid then!
>>61748694
>BTWN is horrible

>>61745457
My second favorite Ae album. I like how the melodies are buried under a bunch of chopped up notes, so you have to listen real closely to figure them all out.
>>61745461
Despite being a big Depeche Mode fan, I've always put off this album for some reason. It's actually pretty damn good. It feels like a more minimal, synth-heavier version of Construction Time Again.
>>61739505
Sweet Thing makes me fucking tear up without fail
>>61747232
I've heard every Bowie album, you've just got unbelievably shit taste.
>>61749688
nah that album was just shit
his first is underrated as fuck though
Fat Old Sun is one of the most beautiful songs ever
>>61745405
>grammys
>>61739634
Buddha is a masterpiece, he really let his music run free. I wish he'd dropped more of that kind of thing on us.
>>61752026
Even the band doesn't like this album, It's one of my favorites.
>>61743300
>>61745457
Agreed
>>61739706
his watch matches his shitty outfit kek
>>61753320
It's odd to me, because If, Summer '68, and Fat Old sun are some of the best!
>>61739582
this
>>61738986
Lodger
Also this

>>61739175
Definitely. And dat Girls on Film video.
https://vimeo.com/18521738
Also, doesn't it seem like every 80's new wave band had an amazing bass player?
>>61739807
One Hot Minute is a great album, it just doesn't compare to any others released by them during that time period.
>>61741151
This, holy fuck. Heligoland is good too
