Great album but this is Roach's best. The Aboriginal influence and the concept of dream states is amazing.

Yes! I found this 2xCD at a thrift store in Philly. Came with a full booklet and everything, $1. A fantastic late-night listen.

This is an ambient thread, friend. Iceage are not an ambient group.

Hello, just getting into ambient. I recently have been listening to Klaus Schulze's stuff: Irrilicht, Cyborg, and soon Timewind. Absolutely LOVE Irrilicht and Cyborg good god, any more like these?

Also, does anyone have any ambient with percussion? Amon Duul II's Marylin-Monroe-Memorial Church is one of my favorite tracks ever, but I wouldn't know where to find stuff like it.

The sublte guitar plucks, the bass notes, the drum climax at the end. It's fucking magnificent. Recs would be greatly appreciated.

melancholia is the only album he's made with traditional song lengths. Not amazing, still quite enjoyable, but the disintegration loops is GOAT. Especially Part 2, but all are good. If you enjoy TDL check out 92982, Nocturnes, and Shortwavemusic.

Ambient 4 is on it. I find Discreet Music corny, though the Pachelbel tracks after it are good.

Check out other German music from that time like (early) Tangerine Dream, Edgar Froese, Harmonia, and Cluster.

As for ambient with percussion, check out the middle track on Tangerine Dream's Alpha Centauri.
>>
>>61734327
92982 is his best IMHO, TDL are a little overrated

>>61734871
What are two or three albums you would recommend out of his gigantic discography?

I didn't hear too much ambient from 2015, but this struck me as a great example of a dark space ambient with a mean streak.

Yeah it's def my ambient AOTY 2015, it's a cool concept and the execution is great.
>>
>>61739512
ian william craig - a turn of breath
bas van huizen - kluwekracht (more drone)
jasmine guffond - yellow bell
rafael anton irisarri - a fragile geography
alphaxone - altered dimensions (dark ambient)
>>
>>61739540
already heard those and Xerrox is in my top 10 but thanks for the recs, good taste.
>>61739683
I believe you mean Cradle For the Wanting for Ian William Craig, and I did indeed love Yellow Bell, will check out the rest, thanks

While I'm at it, great 2015 ambient not yet mentioned in this thread:

En - City of Brides
James Murray - The Sea in the Sky
Abul Mogard - The Sky Had Vanished
Anne Garner- Be Life (not strictly ambient I guess but still highly recommended)

I like that Dark Ambient shit that is goin' on in "Darkest Before Dawn". Only album I know about Steve Roach. Listened to it many times while working or sleepin' or doin' chores. I also enjoy Tangerine Dream or Lustmord.

So mainly I am lookin' for new fucking sinister Dark Ambient

agreed, it takes real musicianship to pull off an almost 80 minute album and keep it enthralling all the way. Thanks for this

I feel like Roach is a bit overrated by Scaruffi, but that doesn't make his music fucking amazing and a bit under-appreciated.

Can anybody rec me some warm drone/noisy ambient? Really into stuff like October Language by Belong and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma.

Kinda, but by the merit of the title track which takes up Side A, it should be on there. It's arguably the first link of the chain these albums can trace back to before going to Satie and Stockhausen.

The idea of self generative music, and how Eno used two small samples to create the piece is mind blowing.
