They're cheaper, smaller, works in my car, hifi, computer, you can rip em, lend to friends (not that any of YOU would have any).

I only buy vinyl if it's something I really love for really cheap.

CDs because they're cheaper, more convenient and sound better when they don't botch up the mastering. I'm buying digital versions on Bandcamp more and more often though.

Vinyl looks better, but the sound can go from "almost as good as CD quality" to total shit.

opinions on jitter? problem of cd
I've read vynils have better frecuency reply
>>
>>61714586
CD jitter is usually negligible, you won't notice it on a good player. Vinyl can reproduce higher frequencies than a CD, but a CD's frequency limit is already above the range of human hearing, so most likely you won't notice the difference. It comes down to which version is mastered better. Sometimes the vinyl version has a better mix, sometimes CD. It depends on what you prefer.

>>61715777

>>
Just so everyone knows.

Vinyl is a physically inferior platform. It can hold significantly less data with less dynamic range.

The reason why some vinyl sounds better than CDs has to do with the mastering. Around the early 2000s the remastering plauge happened where record companies decided that people would rather have something they could "blast" than something with accurate reproduction so CDs with this type of mastering are in fact inferior to earlier vinyl masters that used the full dynamic range of the vinyl record.

The problem with new vinyl is that they are literally using the CD masters and just putting them on vinyl meaning that you get all of the negatives of both formats with your new vinyl with none of the benefits.

There is no reason to buy any album from post 2000 on vinyl or any modern resprint on vinyl.

don't even get me started on 180 gram lps.

i can play CDs in my stereo, car stereo, laptop and any of my friends similar equipment
vinyl cant be played on anythink portable so its pointless
ive moved up in the world and bought an ipod with blue tooth speaker recently so thats a step up
i do like how vinyl sounds though and its cool that a needle on a piece of plastic can make such intricate sounds desu
>>
CD. Easier to take care of, I got them all in a zipped-up binder, plus I can put the music on my computer. You can probably get music from vinyl onto a computer but considering there's no vinyl drive on a computer it's definitely got to be harder.
>>
>>61716003

It's pasta anon, ignore.

But 180 gram can be bad because they're sometimes factory warped, and they're hard to unwarp.

Also because every shitty reissue nowadays are advertised in "audiophile-grade" 180 gram it makes heavyweight vinyl look cheap.
>>
>>61716003
It has no impact on the quality of the sound. Surface area is the important thing for determining sound quality so having a thicker record does nothing to increase that surface area.

All you get with a 180 gram record is literally just more vinyl mass. They get away with it because people have been trained to think that heavier things mean they're better built but it's literally just a chunk of vinyl.

Also, if it comes from the factory warped, it is almost impossible to fix.
>>
vinyl

CDs suck as physical objects and are the same as digital... I would rather have digital music on an ipod than in a bunch of fucked up jewel cases. If I want to support musicians and buy a physical product, i'll buy vinyl

Yeah, gotta use external hardware in order to achieve it, while CD drives are built in to most computers.
>>
Vinyl just because it is different enough from CD/MP3/MP4 and often comes with cool goodies. If a band releases a CD or Cassette instead with the kind of designs/goodies that come with a vinyl with no vinyl version I usually get those. Flac, mp files, etc. can be downloaded and you get the similar experience but not even vinyl rips have that different sound/feel vinyls do.

The problem with vinyl is that the packaging is too big. Takes so much more space, and buying a new CD is WAY cheaper than vinyl. And taking care of vinyl is too expensive a well.

CD for electronic, rap, hip-hop, metal, etc.

>>
Honestly, why would you collect CDs? Both CDs and Vinyl are less conveniant than just torrenting all your music, why would you not have your main collection of music torrented on your PC and then a "secondary" actual collection on vinyl of your favourites? Both CD and vinyl is inconvenient, the only reason for collecting either is literally for the sake of collecting it, which is a good enough reason but in that case vinyl is just cooler.

I've literally reached the point where the only things I buy are CDs that aren't available for download, or vinyl that never got transferred over during the CD reissue period

sure, I'll pop into music stores and snag deals on things I already have digital copies of, but most of what I buy are rough guesses on things you can't get online. (rym, allmusic, and rym are incomplete, b t w)
