Was there a single 70s rock artist that didn't have an incredibly dodgy/ embarrassing 80s trajectory?
>>61698580
>he thinks he's smart by using the word trajectory
Bob Dylan
>>61698580
Rush
>he doesnt like "Let's Dance"
>>61698580
You just posted him.
>>61698612
Also this
>>61698604
Dylan was the worst. But the 80s were hell for everyone
ronald fripp
Tom Waits
>>61698665
think again pleb
>>61698676
This
Kate Bush too
>>61698597
What? It's a very basic word. How are you so intimidated by 4 syllable words that you see them as some kind of intellectual posturing?
>>61698604
Dylan is more 60s really, and the 80s were the absolute pits for him
>>61698612
Nah their synth stuff is mostly crap
>>61698623
The singles from Let's Dance are okay but the album itself is boring dreck and it only got worse from there
>>61698676
Fair
>>61698580
Modern Love was his best song, you dolt.
Michael Jackson
I can stand 80s Bowie, but 90s Bowie just sounds like absolute shit to me. And I feel bad because he was really happy with what he was doing in that time, more so than the 80s, but the 90s are the only Bowie albums I have barely revisited.
>>61698612
Rush were embarassing as fuck in the 80s. They started off well, but ended with shit like Power Windows and Presto. Geddy Lee had a fucking mullet.
>>61698580
Do Talking Heads count?
>>61698580
Devo. They created the image everyone wanted to follow for the 80's, and didn't suck ass. In they late 70's they were like art rock punk, then they went to electric pop punk. But even later down the line with "Total Devo" and "Shout" They kinda lost their touch.
Prince bb
the king crimson 80s albums are pretty good tBh
>>61698866
I've never actually heard them besides Discipline. They seem to get lukewarm reviews. Do they sound like Discipline? Cuz more of the same would be fine by me tbqh
The Clash
>>61698904
Beat is like a darker discipline, I actually like that one a lot. Three of a Perfect Pair isn't as good, the A side has mostly poppier sounding Discipline songs (not bad) but the B side is all instrumental, like a less interesting B side to Low. I'd give them a shot at least, I think all their albums through THRAAK are worth listening to.
Do Motorhead count?
the police?

Roxy Music, Brian Eno.

>>61699594

Zappa.
>>61698849

>>61700096
>>61698580
The Clash.
>>61700143
i mean quints i cant count
Technically speaking The Cure's first album came out in '79, they formed in '76, and it's pretty much unanimously accepted that they peaked in the 80's so...?
>>61698580
Genesis. Those guys rose in the 80's.
>>61698580
Pink Floyd
Bruce Springsteen
>>61698665
>>61698763
>Shot of Love
>Infidels
>Empire Burlesque
>Oh Mercy
Nope.
Dire Straits
The Police
King Crimson
>>61700248
But it was a dodgy and embarrassing rise.
>>61700461
Not really. Gabriel was also making power ballads at that era. I really don't understand when people say that Genesis went to shit in the 80's.
>>61700440
You're goddam right
>>61698580

marianne faithful
> cocaine

> discos
yeah, sucky time they had in the 80s
>>61698866
Came here to post this.
>>61698580
Both Iggy Pop and Lou Reed had some pretty bad 80s albums.
Public image limited. They started the decade off very strong with flowers of romance and made some fun pop records like album and 9.
>>61698845
ye this. first four albums = goat. the rest, fucking easy listening bullshit
>>61698843
I see where Interpol got their look from
XTC
>>61698580
xtc, talking heads.
Bruce Springsteen comes to mind. Tunnel of Love is God-tier Bruce.
>>61698580
Bruce was great all through the 80's.
Peter Gabriel you faggots.
Only great artist from the 80s is Tom Petty
>>61699999
mirin
Warren Zevon
Alice Cooper
>>61700248
>Genesis. Those guys rose in the 80's.
You lolwat?
You mean they sank into decline from the mid/late seventies. That's what you meant to write.
The first two Sabbath albums with Dio are among their best
Talking Heads
>>61700248
Duke and Abacab are awesome albums, can't deny it. Two of my favourites (although i prefer The Lamb, and Wind and Wuthering)
Even s/t had Home by the Sea, and Mama was a good track. Invisible Touch is one of the catchiest and best 80s pop albums out there, even if I don't like it much i can recognize that
>>61698952
Nah, The Clash's 70's output was far superior to their 80's work.
And the sheer shittiness of Cut The Crap makes their 80's output 'dodgy'
>>61698676
this
Waits is even more based because he started as blues/jazz and veered into rock in the 80s when most other rock was trash
Genesis.
Fight me irl m8s
Supertramp
>>61698792
nailed it
Grateful Dead
Barely
>>61698801
black tie white noise is near unlistenable for me
it has some of his best lyrics but damn if the music hasn't aged like milk on a hot day
>>61702547
This man stayed true to himself from the first day to the last, brilliant.
