As weird as it may seem, Kanye West is our generation's David Bowie. He is the next artist whose death will ripple across the globe and leave the earth breathless.
Unconvinced? Both are known for their perfected albums. They both transcend decades, and are often hailed for their ability to be amorphous in terms of musicality and artistry. On top of being a musician, Bowie acted and wrote plays. On top of being a musician, Kanye is a fashion mogul.
Also, both are the biggest names in music that are adored by both music-philes and casual listeners alike.
I for one look forward to Kanye's next decades of amazing outputs.

It's worth noting Kanye has never made a band album. David Bowie made a handful. Granted, his career spanned much longer than Kanye's.
Honestly Kanye isn't that great and is widely regarded as a pompous ass, throwing money at the fashion scene to let him in.
Regardless of taste, his influence isn't nearly as big. He's had successful album releases and certainly leads as far as recent artists go but I think people see him more as a marketer then a visionary, and that's an important distinction. He is able to consistently make money but he hasn't shown us much more then what other top artists have provided. He just does them "better".
