Its music.
Its the music discussion board.
Its not /bleep/
Calling it /IDM/ causes arguments

Get over it.

I tried YMO, sounded too dated for me

Great that you named it Electronic Listening Music general. I'm sick of stupid names like bleep, idm, or edm.
>>
Is there good psybient other than CBL?
>>
>>61684891
But the music is great even if it's dated. It's part of its charm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TwsWzudRgQ

There's no "objectively the best band". Biggest electronic band of all time? Definitely.
>>
>>61684949
I'd say The Prodigy are bigger
>>
>>61684949
No, biggest and objectively, the best electronic band of all time. They are the Gods of electronic music, met with critical acclaim and have inspired many of the electronics bands today, without them, they wouldn't exist. They are the best.

Depeche Mode is way bigger than Prodigy. Mode have sold over 100 million records whereas Prodigy only a quarter of that. Prodigy is a joke to Depeche.

Why not put the best Orb album on there?
>>
>>61684961
Sorry but no.

>Depeche Mode have had fifty songs in the UK Singles Chart and thirteen top 10 albums in the UK charts, two of which debuted at No. 1. Depeche Mode have sold over 100 million records worldwide.

>They have sold over 25 million records worldwide.

DM also have a huge fanbase and their tours consist mostly of stadium gigs.
>>
>>61684971
No, it's /ELM/
>>

>evening lads
>i am from bleep
>i say I go to clubs but really i just watch bioler room sets and circlejerk about the fabric lineup every weekend because Ii'm a bigger autist than any of you lads tbqh family wahey
>>
>>61684984
Electro/synthpop isn't /ELM/, its made for dancing too.
>>
>>61684996
This.

And their stadium gigs are always amazing and sell out fast. They are the best at electronic.

It will be a sad day when they die. It was already sad when Bowie died.
>>
>>61684971
I know. But Grimes is electropop which is part of electronic music. Her music features singing which is far from the most /bleep/ stuff.

I suggest you to actually try to get into her music. Worth it.
>>
>>61685006
It says Electronic LIstening Music General

Can you not read you autist?
>>
>>61685017
This isn't an electronic general.

This general is for music made specifically for home listening, Grimes is still meant live entertainment.
>>
>>61685020
Yeah, and music for dancing too isn't Electronic Listening Music which is obviously a relation to the Warp Records compilation.
>>
>>61685006
That is wrong. Electro/synthpop are actually ones of the least danceable genres part of ELM. Techno, house, trance, feature a prominent rhythm great for dancing, while electro/synthpop focus os singing. They're closer to the traditional songwriting.
>>
>>61685035
>ones of the least danceable genres part of ELM

Apart from downtempo, lounge, IDM, ambient, psybient etc which these threads are obviously for.
>>
>>61684867
It's pretty good I'd say. More accessible production-wise than their "classic" albums.
>>
>>61685026
>Grimes is still meant live entertainment
Her music is also for listening. Except most of Art Angels most of her music has a dreamy quality, less suitable for dancing. Just listen to Visions or Halfaxa.
>>
To avoid confusions, better put Electronic Music General next time. Most electronic music is beat driven and if you want just music for listening (non danceable), you exclude a huge part.
>>
>>61685064
All music is made for listening, Grimes doesn't fit in this thread though.
>>
m8s, what where your picks for 2015? looking through my library there's fuck all from last year there, I was away for much of it and never caught up
>>
>>61685084
This.
Grims is /wpop/.
>>
>>61685083
Its not meant to be an electronic music general, its meant to be for IDM and similar intended home listening bleeps taken from the Warp Records compilation. The point is to be specific, why bother having a general for half of all music made this century.
>>
>>61684399
>name them
Richard, Autechre, BoC?, ?, ?, OPN, Statham, Squarepusher, ?, ?, ?, Venetian Snares, ?
damn...
>>
>>61685084
You contradict yourself.

>All music is made for listening
>Grimes doesn't fit in this thread though
>Thread name: Electronic LISTENING Music general
>>
>>61685106
No I didn't. Maybe a disclaimer is needed here on.

>these threads are for bleeps intended for home listening; IDM, lounge, downtempo, future jazz, psybient, ambient, progressive electronic and similar. They are NOT synthpop threads or electronic generals.
>>
>>61685096
She's also an electronic music artist. The synths are more prominent in her music than many so called IDM artists that put a strange beat & strange sound and called it a track.
>>
Anyone have recommendations for new bands to listen to?

I'll probably be called a faggot, but I like the synth-electronicish stuff:

Depeche Mode
La Roux
Chvrches
Daft Punk
M83

to name some
>>
>>61685130
>>61685131
Last time I bother making this thread then.
>>
>>61685130
Yeah. The synths are more prominent because she's a synthpop artists. That's still pop overall.
She's not completely irrelevant, but I wouldn't be posting Depeche Mode or Strawberry Switchblade itt either.

Next time just post on the very first post the genres discussed (IDM, ambient, downtempo, etc). No more confusion.
>>
>>61685131
synthpop is what you want, but
Cut Copy (In Ghost Colours and Bright Like Neon Love particularly)
Zeigeist
Roisin Murphy
The Knife- Deep Cuts
Ladytron
>>
>>61685174
I thought this would be obvious, especially with the OP pic too and the title relation to >>61685127
>>
>>61685172
He meant probably that DM doesn't fit what he intended with /ELM/. This is a very subjective thing: for him DM may be music for dancing, but for many (like me) it's music for listening.
>>
>>61685193
>subjective
>Electronic Music Listening
>Depeche Mode is an Electronic band

He has autism.
>>
>>61685191
Fair enough. To be honest I thought it's just an electronic music general. You wanted a more specific thread.

There are some folks that dance to ETS even if it's a meditative/kinda melancholic song.
>>
>>61685229
Maybe during a live performance.

Other than that that would be pure autism.
>>
>>61685225
That's better. But this thread is great too, even if it was chaotic so far.
>>
>>61685241

Yes. The song is also more energetic live.

liking this music and using this board is suffering
maybe next time try naming it /bloop/
