How sad will you be when the last of this holy trinity is gone?

Iggy is awesome, but what has he done interesting lately? His art relies on testosterone, which is fine, but doesn't really sustain him into his 60's and 70's. I'll be sad when he dies, but I'm still looking for great things ahead from dudes like Waits, Eno, and Walker.

Bowie fronting, Bolan on guitar, Lemy on bass, Moon on drums, Klaus Nomi and Freddie Mercury back up vocals.

IKR

Hey there fellow Waits fan. Just wanted to pass something on to you, which I had made a thread about last week. I've been listening to Waits for about15 years now, and recently, I have come to the conclusion that I think 'Real Gone' may just be his finest album. But the thing is, it is only so great when you actually listen to it as an album. Piecemeal, the songs don't hold up in the way some of his other albums do, albums universally considered to be his greatest, in that you can take 3,4 or 5 cuts off of those records and those songs hold up any time, any place as really great songs. Real Gone doesn't have that.

However, when you listen to 'Real Gone' from beginning to end, there's is a real experience there. It has a tremendous flow to it. These songs, they only really deliver their greatest potential impact when they have momentum behind them. And that energy comes from all of the songs around them. They rise and fall. Listening to them separately, I think they can kind of fall flat.

Think of it like this; think of a really great movie, one with an engaging story and excellent characters. Imagine there is a build up of tension in the film, and then there is a scene where some of that tension is resolved, like in a fist fight, or even an argument, or someone standing up for himself. If you were to view that scene without the context, it just wouldn't have the same effect.

It is a concern of mine that this newest generation of music lovers, and generations to come, will be so indoctrinated with listening to individual songs, that they won't be able to appreciate the beauty of a well composed record. It also makes me worry that album composition, too, will begin to evanesce into rarity or even novelty. That's one of the things I love about Tool. They really champion this cause by not allowing there music to be sold as a digital download.

TL;DR- Hey Waits fan, if you haven't really listened to 'Real Gone' all the way through, try it.

He's still pretty good live for a 80 year guy. Can still play and hasn't lost his voice. The one major concession to his age is that he plays much shorter shows now, typically an hour and thirty minutes while he would have done three hours a night in 1975.
>>
>>61680412
I'm not him but Real Gone is my favorite album of all time
>>
>>61680540
What do you think of my analysis of it? I know tracks like 'Hoist that Rag' and 'The Day After Tomorrow' stand up really well on their own, but don't you feel that the album really works so much better as a whole. I mean, in the most blatant and rudimentary way, look at 'Make it Rain', which was released as a single on the radio before the record even came out. That song alone is SO much fucking better when you play 'Clang Boom Steam' to lead into it.

Jack Lalanne looked better than that guy and didn't have such an old man face.

You hate to think it but they're all going to start dropping like flies. All the boomers anyway. That generation's grip on the culture has been so ubiquitous for so long, we tend to ascribe a certain immortality to them. But I'm telling you. Any musician born before 1950 or so is on that train. And it's going to be moving fast.

Pinetop was injured in a car wreck when at 92, he tried to beat a train at a crossing. He drove around the barriers and got hit. His car was totaled, but he was unscathed.

That's as impressive as it gets for that age. Not only that he didn't get hurt in the accident, but to still be mentally capable of doing something as complex as navigating around a crossing barrier. Or being brave enough to try and outrun a train considering most elderly people are pretty damn cautious/terrified of any risks.

This was from a commentary by Christgau on Bing Crosby (he was reviewing a Crosby's greatest hits CD set).

"By most measures, Bing Crosby was the biggest entertainer of the first half of the 20th century. For longer than FDR was president, he mastered all forms of media. Among other things, he pioneered the arts of tape recording and microphone placement. I had long found it difficult to appreciate his recordings as the techniques he developed have been surpassed, but also because he had a certain artificial quality that makes him fall apart if you become aware of it. The only song on this set the younger generation are likely to be familiar with is White Christmas, but for those of us who remember things before the rock-and-roll era, they were a part of our collective consciousness. I can remember my elders singing Crosby's tunes at parties and I knew the words to Swinging on a Star by the age of 4. This was a time when popular music was dominated by Tin Pan Alley, when Irving Berlin ruled. To my generation, it's central to our childhoods, to the younger crowd, a curious glimpse into a bygone culture."

I agree. Iggy's style doesn't lend itself to getting old like Dylan's does.

Tempest was not bad either. Although Dylan's voice was a trainwreck by this point, he hadn't lost any of his skills as a lyricist.

I've never heard that Chuck has Alzheimer's or anything, but I do know his hearing and eyesight are really weak which along with arthritis issues would definitely affect his ability to play.

When you can't hear what you're playing, can't see your fretboard, and have stiff as hell fingers, of course the end result is >>61681602

Ticks. My parents have a nice house near wild forest, so occasionally their dogs in the summer get a few of those when they walk though the grass

Fucking disguting animals. I enjoyed removing like fucking 20 off my dog, then putting them on a metal cupcake form, adding a little gasoline and setting them on fire

BB King at least tried to make things easier on himself in the later years by playing seated and inviting guest guitarists to take some of the solo-ing work off his hands.

Prince is 57 and is pretty healthy, he still has at least 20 years of mileage on him
>>
>>61683698
20 years could be low. I'm pretty sure he's super healthy, he should live into his 80s at least. Although he is a Jehovah's Witness and I think they have weird rules about medical stuff, so he could end up dying because of that.

JWs don't allow blood transfusions. Christian Scientists reject any modern medicine which ended up costing James Hetfield his mom when he was still a kid.

Yeah that's kind why I'm hesitant on thinking Prince is getting past the 80 mile.

I do believe that Macca's death would probably be the biggest pop star death ever, only Jackson's death will be a bit comparable.
