the main differences, as i see it, are that meshuggah are intentionally repetitive to create a hypnotic/trancelike mindset, and most djent tends to be a lot more erratic, with a lot more high-string work. meshuggah also have a much darker, more claustrophobic atmosphere than modern djent, which tends to be relatively light and dreamy in comparison.
