I was feeling pretty superior when Michael Jackson died and everyone on last.fm were suddenly listening to Michael the king of pop Jackson as if they had always been a fan.
I went and listened through MJ's discography several years later and found some nice tunes from his early albums that I liked. Other than that it left very little impression.
Presently I'm going to download and listen to Blackstar with the foreknowledge that I probably won't like it much. I'm not a fan of his music nor will I ever be. But if there's ever an appropriate time to give that guy a chance and an honest listen, it's now or never.

Tbh, in the context of him just dying, that record will never have another chance to be so affecting. There's a lot of lyrical reference to his death and it's clear that it was supposed to function as a swan song musically aswell.
It's also not his best record though so if you're gonna give him a chance, the Berlin Trilogy is his peak.
