Certainly one of the elite, I've been listening to it every day for a week now. This is some of the hardest music-related news I think I've ever had to live through. Yesterday, I listened to the album, and was thinking about how when David Bowie died, people were gonna go crazy and music wouldn't feel the same, and this entire thought came from me realizing that Blackstar kind of felt like a goodbye.

Guys, he was battling cancer while making this album. If there is ever any doubt as to whether David actually gave a shit about his fans, let this totally demolish any doubt.

And also, David kept out of the spotlight these last few years because he wanted us to remember her at his strongest, not his weakest.

Now that this happened and I see what the album is about maybe it was a good decision to postpone it. Maybe this is the moment it had to be listened to.
>>
>>61648112
Of course I did. I have been a Bowie fan since the age of 10, which was in 2000. That's nothing compared to my dad who first saw him live in 1976 (and has been a fan since 1971), but still this news was really shocking for me too.

runs the same all to today.

Have to say his death has completely changed the album for me. I was stupid enough not see that it's basically a fucking epitath/suicide note.
>>
Yeah, listened to it an it was absolute shit

Listened again just now, and it's still shit even with the "poetry" of his death
>>
quite happy i did. was thinking about it this morning, listening to it now for the first time completely changes your perception of the album.

i listened to it yesterday for the first time, maybe while he was dying
>>
"I'm dying to". When I listened to that lyric last night I knew he was directly telling us that he was dying. Fuck.

HE SOLD HIS SOUL TO THE DEVIL, BLACK STAR VIDEO JUST CONFIRMS IT, YOU JUST DON'T RELEASE AN ALBUM AND DIE TWO DAYS AFTER

Fuck same here. Couldn't get to sleep last night so I decided to pull an all nighter when my friend texted me the news.

I reckon it's referring to what he'll be turned into after his death.
That's probably the significance of Major Tom's skull, all covered in jewels - everyone worships an embellished legacy of who he really was.
>>
I heard it on the 31st.
Sure, the leak was shit, but it was Bowie.
Then I got the CD version and listened again. It was even better than I thought it would be. Kinda annoyed that I listened to the vinyl leak first, but whatever.
Truly, this was a parting gift that will never be forgotten. I love you, David.

Man, relistening Blackstar for the x Time. it feels like every Song is linked to his upcoming death (something happened on the Day he died, where the fuck did monday go, i'll be free like THAT bluebird, look Up here i'm in heaven, sue goodbye etc.)
>>
>>61648147
/v/ here we listened to it when it was leaked.

It's seriously nothing special, and now that you understand the context of the album it's even more enjoyable.
>>
Listened to it two days ago on a whim. Weird timing, rip Bowie.
>>
>>61656892

That's James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem on percussion. Amazing to know that he had a hand in Blackstar.
>>
I downloaded a leak last Tuesday and gave it a listen straight away. Really enjoyed a lot of elements of the album, and just generally enjoyed Bowie's artistry. Listened to it at least once more in its entirety, then just selected tracks. Woke up this morning to the news of his passing and couldn't quite comprehend what I was seeing. Now that I've thought about it, the album makes so much more sense, as a sombre swansong.
>>
>>61658603
>A man as depressive as Murphy had to know that Bowie was dying and keep it a secret all this time

This is so fucking funny

Does listening to it at 2 in the morning count or did he die before hand

Whoa, so profound. I think there may be something uncanny going on here!

It's ok, one of my friends was in london and they've bought me a copy, which I'll pay them back for. Still feel a little guilty tho
>>
It's sold out of Tesco and Sainsburys, I saw loads of normies buying it lmao then they'll get home and realise it's one of Bowie's least accessible albums and it's not like Ziggy Stardust or Hunky Dory but they'll still pretend they like it even though they don't

Listened to Blackstar single when it was released.
Listened to the whole album for the first time yesterday, wake up to this today.

>Mother told me this morning that Bowie had died
B-but I only got his album yesterday, it's only just been released....

Though, i'm 40yo this year and have been aware of Bowie for pretty much the best part of those 40 years and got to see him live in the 90's.
>>
>>61652497
Was Kira based off of Bowie?

>>61662271
haha yeah, it will sell like hot cakes but people will be horrified when it doesn't have nice digestible songs.

I watched some music vids right after it came out.

Was that your review on RYM?
>>
Before the news hit, I tried listening to the vinyl leak, and couldn't quite take it. I bought the album quickly after, and like any other Bowie release, I was extremely happy with it. A few hours later, when the news broke, it felt like everything inside me ceased for a moment, and I desperately hoped for a moment that it wasn't true.

Re-listening to Ziggy Stardast at the moment. I'm planning on re-listening to all of his stuff at some point, along with finally listening to the albums of his I was advised to skip when I first started listening to him.
