Based on what I've seen if you take everyone's 5s and compile them into one list and rate them the average would be between 2 and 3. The vast majority of music isn't good compared to the very best music, even if you're picking and choosing. That makes me distrustful of the taste of anyone with a lot of 5s or a noticeably upwardly skewed curve

That's not the point. It's the fact of the matter of how much good music is out there. I've only even found a handful of albums that deserve the highest rating, and they are definitely considerably better than the next best rating. If albums that good were the norm then it'd be a different story
