Does anyone have SOLID EVIDENCE that threads were posted here promoting this album with a dozen generic replies such as "great album", "sounds great", "thanks", and so on?

as in links to rebeccablacktech.com such as

https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/thread/S30209918

Or is this just one of those /mu/ rumors? Hmm?

yeah it got spammed here for a while when it came out which deterred me from listening to it for a long ass time. but about a month ago my friend was playing it at his house and i couldn't believe how good it actually was. i really enjoy it now. too bad the artists or the artists' marketing team are such try-hards
>>

I think they do a fair job when they promote their own artist. Its just pretty awkward when they are promoting HKE and Telepaths shit even though they basically run the whole label.

>New Dreams Ltd is entirely a caricature of mass media and its evolution in the late 80s right before computer culture blew up in America. I wanted to create some rift between reality and fiction because I feel like that’s exactly what they were trying to accomplish back then.
>It seems like the world has been slowly tuning out of reality for the last 20 years and that fascinates me. There is a big undertone of surrealism to everything that was going on at the time, especially in Japan, and I wanted to capture that in a way that would strike people now the way it did then. The lengths people went to in advertising, even then, is shocking to me, I think shock factor is a huge element of things like this.

“Modernity can be defined as the desperate search for means of rejuvenation - symbolized by the value placed on newness – to counteract decadence..... Modernity seesaws - often violently – between feelings of decadence and rejuvenation, the sense of imminent decline and unexpected rebirth.... [Moderns are prone to] a peculiar feeling of self-decay”`

“Avant-garde art... involves a wish to regress to the primordial beginning to escape the decadent end”

["The artist of today a/k/a the neo-avant-garde artist, a/k/a pseudo-avantgarde artist] is a necrophiliac of art, more in love with it – especially if it is dead – than with life”

“Behind postmodernist celebration of the copy and mockery of modernist orginality is disbelief in primordiality and its transmutative power. Simulation is one postmodernist strategy of discreditation and mockery of modernist primordiality, and destruction of the boundary between avant-garde and kitsch—between the authentic and the inauthentic, the high and the low – is another”

The neo-avant-garde artist “is concerned about surviving in a world that seems to have no future and so has become all past, which is the ultimate decadent attitude... the neo-avant-garde artist lives among the ruins of the avant-garde past. He preys on it like a cynical vulture on a rotten carcass.... He is a kind of castrato, singing art falsetto. His is an ultra-arch art masking the return of the anxious feeling of decadence..."

“He gains fame and fortune for no clear accomplishment, but simply for being a stylish symbol... Novelty is proof enough of his artistic power and credibilty”

“Fame and fortune are the neo-avant-garde artist’s reward for forfeiting the therapeutic criticality of avant-garde art”

“Appropriation art is informed by the decadence syndrome: the sense of the decline and impending death of art. This is expressed as a feeling of déjà vu and a sense of art’s loss of significant human purpose.....". This results in a vampire-strategy “as though to suck the dregs of that faded vitality and ambition from it”

“The appropriation artist is not at all influenced by what he appropriates, in the traditional sense of the term, for what he appropriates is not an inspiration and catalyst to him”

"As long as there is a famous art to appropriate he feels vitally young, even as the act of appropriation announces his decadence.”

Neo-avant-garde / pseudo-avant-garde art “shows that there is no way forward in art today, only different ways backward toward a past that is only technically usable, not emotionally and existentially convincing. They show that a kind of plagiarism has become the ideal of art’

don't be a cornball, it's supposed to be fun, not some edgy movement. the music is supposed to be free, if they're charging on bandcamp its for a tape or b/c bandcamp only gives you so many free downloads before charging. Anyone else feel Dream Catalogue started great but has ruined a good thing by trying to bring coherence to the scene? Anything HKE touches these days seems to have a dull ambient edge to it, he's been downhill since 浪漫的夢想.

And what do you think of DC charging for fucking everything now?
>>
>>61604447
>And what do you think of DC charging for fucking everything now

He wants to make it a legit label with distribution and most distributers won't deal with labels that give their music away for free.

Fair enough but the label has only released a few decent albums lately and the rest have been trash.
>>
>>61604571

I think that's what bothers me, I'm not against the label wanting to be that bit more legit and make money and all, but the quality has been dropping off, it's like charging for every dudes soundcloud.
>>
>>61604571
Also HKE is a pretentious shithead that claims he created vaporwave and its obvious from his spiel that he thinks he's taking vaporwave to new levels with his own music and that which he releases on his label.

The guy can dream on but he's sucking the fun out of the scene.

>>61604608

sometimes telepath can make really good music and sometimes he just slows down songs and puts massive amounts of compression, wahwah and reverb over it
Pic related is probably his most abrasive and best work in my opinion
>>61604447
he's trying to make the label more legitimate since the vaporwave scene isn't taken seriously by majority of people. However the new albums he's been putting out are lackluster at best, even the older albums most aren't very good there would be like every other album is crap
There's plenty of better vaporwave labels besides DC anyways

as for the new luxelite, I'm waiting until later tonight, I try to listen to anything else I'm interested in that isn't vaporwave during the day.
>>
guys, I think you hurt his feelings, look: he just took the "vaporwave" tag off all of the DC albums

obviously just another cheap dramatic trick to get attention
>>
so it looks like the answer to OP's question is "no". there is no solid evidence, just hearsay (shall we say "persistent rumor") ok, thanks 4chan
>>
>>61606118
>Ultimately, this is why I got rid of the word “vaporwave” from Dream Catalogue. Not as a way to say “fuck you” to the vaporwave scene, but more of a way of saying that this whole thing could be so much more than it is, and it will be.
He makes himself look bad on his own, no need to make things up.
>>
>>61598604

^^^

You guys.

Just because it has over 300 reviews doesn't mean it was viralled. Clearly, it was. And just as clearly, it worked.

I mean did any of you guys pay attention to the first threads that would appear about this release?
It would be like ten responses in a row, none of them replying to each other, none of them with images, one IP per post never being reused, all saying shit like
>i don't usually like vaporwave but this is great!
>honestly best vaporwave album I've ever heard
>this is what got me into vaporwave

It was so so so obvious that it's astounding some people didn't pick up on it. And even though if it is good or not it totally a matter of opinion, a huge majority of the elements of this album have objectively been used before in many ways by other artists, many of them on the Dream Catalogue label itself

Now, clearly it has an actual following. It worked, they got attention and found a market. Anyone disputing that is an idiot, but it is equally moronic to claim that the album was never viralled.
>>
Can we all agree that oscob is one of the worst things to happen to vaporwave? the guy thinks he's a producer when he literally just rides off the coattails of who ever he's "collabing" with. And what does it mean to call it a faux genre? If you can point at a bunch of different things and spot commonalities, it's enough to call it a genre. Maybe a few, sure, and we can call it electronic or some sort of screw, anything you like, but if people are responding to certain aspects in the same ways, it's fine to give it a new name and talk about it in those terms. Vaporwave is as legitimate a term as anything else for the music under discussion.

says who? by pigeon-holing an art piece or movement as merely light-hearted and surface level, you're not doing it any justice. there's a reason why comedies are the worst genre of movie. a real art critic would never say something like "it's just supposed to be fun". when appreciating art you have to think about it critically. every aspect of the piece is there for a reason and as an active audience, it should be your job to think about why. saying that you just like it because it's fun is totally superficial.

Didn't he always include a link to the mirrors over at vaporwave.me before it went down, with a huge banner saying something like "please download from the mirror"? celebration of capitalism

this is beautiful music btw thanks for sharing

I think what happens is that when you combine "de-music'd audio" (by which I mean, an audio track from which some of the music has been removed) with real some light ambient music or a beat, everybody forgets about the fact that there was a "music removal step" in the production process because over time it just begins to sound like new music

anyway this gets back to the whole "remove music from audio" program https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/thread/S30209918 (read the comments at the end from mac plus)
