objectively the best "singer-rapper". Unlike Drake he's actually not afraid to use his voice to the full potential. I don't like any full project of his from top to bottom, but some songs like "Best Friends" are amazing.

I literally cannot stop listening to him, for some reason. No other rapper has such a great beat selection, has such a cool way of rapping over beats.

I just wish he tried harder with lyrics. I'm not talking about content, just, it's like he doesn't even try to have monosyllabic rhymes, you know?

Mine is a fucking classic song though, maybe in my top 10 favorite hip hop songs ever.

My favorite artist of all time.

Underated genius.

Insane with the melodies and the cadenses.

Unreal ability to change his flow instantly.

His voice is only another instrument in the beautiful production he chooses.

Perfect ear for beats.

You're joking, right? Young Thug might be the most unique musician of his generation. Barter 6's barely there production doesn’t so much frame his rapping as it does provide a surface for his words to dance upon, to explore the art of rapping in multiple dimensions: melodically, rhythmically, lyrically, and in terms of composition. His voice glides through the thick absence of sound. He’s responsible for a lot of the songwriting; he knocks out his own hooks, and his writing speaks to his use of phrasing, his backgrounds, the flows he uses, and the way he plays with each song’s internal architecture. On “Halftime,” his car-screech adlibs are elongated—it’s as if a camera panned suddenly from a pinprick of light, causing it to blur—so he can change tones, harmonizing this background yelp with his own main vocals.

His lyrical style stands out in a number of ways; the most obvious is his ear for figurative language. Thug’s similes often build upon familiar imagery, but move in unexpected directions. On “Check,” he opens rapping about a “Mink coat with the rolls like a Shar Pei”; later on, he raps, “All my niggas, they hard, call them beetles.” These aren’t punchlines intended to get rap fans doubling over laughing (although they can be funny in their unpredictability). Thug seems more interested in an original and idiosyncratic approach to imagery, in discovering pathways in language that haven’t already been heavily traveled.

In this, his lyrical approach is closer to a rapper like Raekwon than it is Lil Wayne, with whom Thug is frequently compared through some fault of his own. But any close reading of his lyrics suggest comparisons between The Barter 6 and Wayne’s Carter series, for which it is named, are a total misdirection. Where Wayne shredded his vocals against hip-hop’s formal constraints, Thug is a synthesist, a rapper of control, an artist in the process of reassembly.

stop making your own mixtapes you shit.

>>
>>61594834
How does that not answer your question? Critics love him because they pick the flavor of the month based on what they think will be trendy and even if they don't it's just they're opinion at the end of the day, and their opinion doesn't magically mean any more than any regular person just because they're a "critic"
>>

I would say someone like Fantano has an opinion that matters more because of the amount of music he has heard and how he listens to the music as opposed to casual listeners

That's why he sells out his shows all over the US an Europe
That's why every one wants to interview him or have him on his show and
That's why his videos on Youtube have more views combined than most other rap artists

That's why his video Best Friend has 56 million views, more than Travis Scott's Antidote, even though the latter has been pushed so hard by the media to be some kind of big deal and is even in a relationship with Rihanna, one of the most famous celebrities.

With That has 46 million views
Power has 26 million views
Check has 68 million views
Lifestyle has 204 million views
Hookah has 202 million views
Halftime has 23 million views
About the Money has 137 million views
Tell Em has 23 million views

and countless other videos with millions of views each

Not even Drake, Future or Kanye have this kind of views on Youtube.

But nobody gives a shit about him right?

If you say you like a table that is an opinion. Your opinion. But then a carpenter comes by and tells you that table is ugly and not well made, you should buy this other table. You say "no I like how it looks this one is better". The carpenter explains to you the finish, the wood type, the practiical use and aesthetics are all better. He also brings in 10 other carpenters and 9 of them agree.

This probably means the table you (who has less knowledge and experience) picked is worse.

Your opinion, while it is an opinion, matters less than an expert in whatever subject.

Idk what song those lines are from. I just wanted to point out the meaning of that masturbation line from "Constantly Hating". The subject matter of that song is public scrutiny, from law enforcement to haters to dickriders. And the dickriders are pussies who stay on social media all day and then jack off everytime Thugga does anything. They're masturbafing on him.

why don't more rappers do features in that quick trading-verses style?
>>
>>61597395
The freestyle he did in France was funny as hell. He choked right after he said a bitch looked handsome. I think it was all good though, because even his own homies were snickering. I think Thugga is able to laugh at himself.

I don't know but it's fucking sick when they do. "Do It Now" by Mos Def is my favorite song like that. Sorry if that makes me look like I'm tipping my snapback.

Even his bad songs are fine desu.
And this is a hit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCLT1aJLF4I

please don't ever be sorry about shit like that.
if you love rapping, you love rapping.

being able to draw parallels between new shit you love and its seeds in older styles is one of the best things about rap music and music in general.
don't ever give that up for memes.

>All my niggas, they hard, call them beetles.” These aren’t punchlines intended to get rap fans doubling over laughing (although they can be funny in their unpredictability). Thug seems more interested in an original and idiosyncratic approach to imagery, in discovering pathways in language that haven’t already been heavily traveled.

jesus christ I hope you're trolling. If so, well played. If not, then you seriously need to rethink your life.

I just think Young Thug is basically your typical dumb hoodrat who happens to have a natural talent for melody. You don't need to justify being a fan of him by pretending he says anything deep or satirical, I love his music simply because of his smooth singy flows and catchy hooks he keeps pumping out over great beats
Noone has perfected the sing-rap style as much as him in my opinion, if you listen to this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCLT1aJLF4I and concentrate on the intricacies of his voice and the little melodies change-ups and still don't 'get'/like it then he simply isn't for you
Also if it helps I don't listen to this type of rap in general, I think Future is awful and Drake is super mediocre

Black, lived in the hood till i was 14, saw a man get shot in my driveway at 4.

I think Young Thug is good for what he does he just lacks flexibility and is more than likely stuck in the mixtape zone.
