lol I don't download music like a faggot. I find nice used vinyls at my local record shop. The selection is better there anyway. Why would you even download crappy digital files when a record sounds better and has nicer art to begin with?

"Better"
Nice opinion. It objectively is lower quality - but I guess if lower quality is "better" to you, enjoy!

Then why are so many people buying vinyls now?? The mastering sounds better than the mp3s on CDs, how can you say it's "objectively better"? Plus, I can put on a record with friends and listen through the whole thing. No one does that with digital music.

I said it's objectively higher quality, not objectively better. Totally different. I use vinyls too, faggot. But digital can have 0 quality loss and is objectively better quality than vinyl.

???
>>61579001
According to who? There are a lot of people that disagree with that. There's definitely no quality loss on a vinyl, what are you talking about it's what the artist wanted you to hear

don't use youtube to mp3, its lower quality because of the video to audio transcoding

There'd still be transcoding with your method, though. Or am I being trolled?

How would there be transcoding, you're directly recording the sound
If you just mean youtubes transcoding, thats why you set it to 1080p so its in flac

What do you export the files to after you record them? Also, video quality has no bearing on audio quality, it's 128 mp4 no matter what.

Someone out there cannot seriously be saving files from YouTube as FLACs.

could be digital or analog

digital or analog

digital or analog

Do I have that right?
If any step along that process is digital, does an analog physical media even matter? Isn't the purity of sound lost at that point?

>analog to digital:
every vibration is absorbed by magnetic tape, then compressed into tiny digital chunks

>digital to analog
sound starts out as tiny digital chunks, it gets pressed into vinyl or a cassette, your ear hears the tiny digital chunks

Assuming the process for digital encoding is as is the same compression rate as digital recording. Your ears should hear the same thing.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Holy fuck you retards.

The audio on Youtube is in some weird format or codec called DASH
Youtube2Mp3 transcodes it to mp3
Recording it with Audacity involves no transcoding, just the pure sound from youtube which you can save as a WAV/FLAC

>Recording it with Audacity involves no transcoding, just the pure sound from youtube which you can save as a WAV/FLAC
Holy fuck how retarded this is.

First of all, youtube player has to transcode DASH to wav for playback so there IS transcoding. And second of all, not only do you risk quality loss because you're converting digital to analog and then back from analog to digital, you also risk quality loss because recording with audacity is NOT FUCKING THREAD SAFE! Just get a spike in CPU usage that causes youtube to lag and you will get that fucking lag in your recording.

Explain to me: Why not just download the DASH audio contained in webm or mp4 from youtube directly (pic related) and then digitally convert it into wav/flac, instead of capturing the wav that the youtube player transcodes from DASH and risking all the shit I mentioned above?
