Totally unheard of band, but I know the guitarist so That's how i got into them. They've really matured over the years and are still putting out cool shit. This one of their older releases. Like 2007 I think.

Really? Chris (the guitarist) is a very old friend of mine. I didn't know people knew about them. My black metal band used to open up for Airs around SF back in 2012-2013

I'm actually quite embarrassed of my old black metal band. We played well live but all of our demos sounded like ass.

>>
>>61572723
Yeah, those were the days. I gave up music to focus on film making and then I joined the military... I did end up making a documentary about the local music scene and Chris from Airs played a vital role. He loaned me some footage he took from different shows. He's credited as a camera operator in the movie.

I actually don't know how I feel about Memoryhouse, they have literally so much potential but every song I've heard is just unoriginal and, I don't know, bland? I mean don't get me wrong I still like a good handful of their songs but yea
>>
>>61572742

Lilys - In The Presence Of Nothing
Swirlies - Blondertongueaudiobaton

Probably this. Really sparse and very ambient but very dark and gloomy. Not hard to imagine yourself walking through an urban wasteland to this.

can someone share the link to lsd's new album?

Solid list, I would add:
Lovesliescrushing - Bloweyelashwish
Pia Fraus - in Solarium
Kairon; IRSE! - Ujubasajuba
Grooms - Infinity Caller
Candy Claws - Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time
Starflyer 59 - Gold

J Francis to adore is pretty jangly but it's subdued too. It's on bandcamp I think pay what you want.

The only shoegaze / ambient album that's on Loveless's level.
>>
Any blackgaze recommendations? Been through most of the /mu/ charts floating around and only found I liked Deafheaven and Botanist.

This and Split are one of my fav shoegaze albums
>>
>>61573866
>lacked aggression
I don't think that's their main aim
>>
>>61574923
That's the appeal of blackgaze for me though. The artistry and ambience of shoegaze with the distortion and aggression of black metal.

New Bermuda is near flawless because of this.
>>
alcest - souvenirs d'un autre monde
>>
>>61574995
I think they've got a certain post-rock esque cathartic quality about them. They are fucking loud too - or at least they were when I saw them live
>>
>>61575051
Deafheaven?

I saw them live on Halloween and it was easily the best concert I've ever been to. Played so loud they blew an amp head. Loved it.
>>
>>61575112
I'm talking about Alcest but I'm going to see Deafheaven in March
>>
>>61572742
this, well there are a lot of "good" shoegaze albums, but Loveless is definitely the only one that comes even close to being a masterpiece
>>
>>61575142
I'll give Alcest another try then, I like a post rock edge ever since hearing Sannhet's Revisionist. Any album in particular?

Also, seeing Deafheaven again at the end of January, couldn't give a shit about Lamb of God.

Ever since I heard Loveless I've been trying to find an album that sounds just like it. Most other shoegaze bands fail to acheive the particular kind of Loveless sound. pic related and Lily's first album are the only albums I've found that come close.

And no, I don't think Lovesliescrushing and Astrobrite sound like Loveless. I mean, yes they do kind of sound like Loveless, but not *just like* it. So don't bother recommending them.

I guess I kind of agree with this statement, although it's mainly that a lot of shoegaze seems like it's just trying to be another loveless or just trying to fit into the genre that is shoegaze or something, so they sound uninspired, bland or messy (in a less artistic way, like how garden of delete is messy as hell but it still sounds great due to whatever it is that makes it great, I don't know how to describe it, I guess it just feels like everything is where it should be) in comparison to something less messy xilinsupremes album the first train, which, although I enjoyed a bit it kind of just felt boring, overly messy, or something. there was just something bland about it.
