Ask somebody who is heavily involved in the making of the new LCD Soundsystem album anything
>No I'm not James Murphy
>>
rank it compared to the other 3 albums
>>
why is this happening. why didnt they quit when they were ahead.
>>
>>61564662
you're a lying piece of shit.
if you actually did work on it post a pic of murphy
>>
What is James like?
>>
PROOF
>>
What are the average track lengths? How many tracks in total?
>>
>>61564671
This Is Happening > Disc 2 of new album > Sound of Silver > Disc 1 of new album > S/T
>>61564676
I didn't meet James until production on the new album started, but James just said that he wanted to make some more music with his friends. He's been saying that, if the future LCD Soundsystem albums (yes, they plan on making more than just one comback record) ruin the band's legacy, at least he's doing it with his best friends
>>61564696
He's a super nice guy. Bit of an introvert, not really super energetic until he's actually making the music. Extremely humble, too
>>61564703
First disc is going to have more songs than the second disc, but the songs on the first disc are going to be shorter. The final tracklisting hasn't been decided on yet, but the first disc will have songs in the 2:00 to 4:00 range, while the second disc will have songs in the 5:00 to 7:00

>this is happening above sound of silver
Nope, it's not real.
>>
Ask someone who's posting in a bait thread anything

Also, I should clarify: Im ranking these as whole albums, rather than a collection of songs. I think This is Happening is their most consistent and well-balanced album, and it has some great songs on it. But I think Disc 2 of LP4, the way it is now (which is subject to change), has some of the best LCD Soundsystem songs ever written

See this comment >>61564861
While I do think SoS has higher highs than This is Happening, I think TIH is much more consistent of an album
>>
>>61564808
he should seriously just do it under a new name, if you ask me. The only reason he'd use the same name would be to capitalize on his success which is stupid.
>>
>>61564676
>>61564941
WHY ARE PEOPLE SO UPSET?

Groups reform all the time. He's doing this music with the same group of people. Of course they're gonna use the same name, it'd be weird to be the same group with a new name. He's addressed this at length already. What is with this fucking mad-about-band-you-like-reforming meme?

at any rate, they both said “let’s make an LCD record”. you see, if they didn’t want to, which i’d half assumed, then there’s no such thing as LCD. imagine this: me making a record, calling it LCD, and then you go to the show and there’s just some guy playing drums over there, or some other person playing keyboards. horrifying. then imagine this: i make a “james murphy” record, or, i don’t know, an “everteen” record, or whatever made-up name i come up with, and there’s pat playing drums, and nancy. maybe al isn’t too busy with hot chip so he comes to play. what the fuck is that? here were our choices: 1. make music with your friends and call it something else, which seems hilarious (everteen) or egomaniacal to the point of sociopathic (james murphy solo record). 2. make music, but WILLFULLY EXCLUDE your friends because of the horrors in option 1. 3. make an LCD record with your friends, who want to make said record, and deal with whatever fall-out together. 4. don’t make music, to avoid the horrors of all of the above. 5. make music and, like, hide it somewhere.
we decided, clearly, on option 3, and i was fully prepared for a certain amount of “oh fuck that guy” over-it stuff—in fact welcomed it. it’s strangely energizing to have people who don’t make music themselves take potshots at you from the internet. and there’s always been a current of O.F.T.G. with me (i’m saying me and not us because, let’s be honest… no one hates anyone else in LCD, partially because they’re unhateable, and also because they have the wisdom to not shoot their mouths off nearly as much), and that’s just fine. i’m pretty used to it, and find it relatively funny.

I mean, all of the original members of LCD are working on this album. And listening to what they've made so far, it sounds like a very logical progression from their last albums
>>
>>61564972
I think band names are indicative of certain periods and that period is over. and using the same name feels like playing with my emotions. just start fresh is my philosophy.
>>
>>61564808
>Extremely humble

yeah, this is fake

Great, you have an opinion that nobody else has, now quit fuckin' holding other people to it.

>>61565084
Im just giving my opinion. This is a music discussion board. Why are you so deffensive? Do you want everyone to agree with you? Would you like an upvote or two?

what preamps are you using for drums

You implied it's a double album. How different are the two discs?

Is sound more synthy like TIH, or more punk like Sound is Silver? Or a completely new direction. LCDS is my favorite band in the world, I'm super excited because I was certain they would never reform.

>>61564936
I'm the opposite. I think SoS is the most consistent, but TIH is better in some spots (Dance Yrself Clean, You Wanted A Hit, Home) but a lot worse in some spots (Drunk Girls, Somebody's Calling Me). Sound of Silver is pretty great all the way through.
>>
>>61564827
they're both such good albums.

sound of silver is better conceptually and contains lcd soundsystem's best efforts (imo)

this is happening is just synth porn. it's just a gigantic orgy of synths and man is it good.

sound of silver is better tho i agree

The first disc is a lot like their self-titled; a lot of fun dance/electronic songs with clever lyrics from Murph, but not a whole lot of deep meaning. That being said, a lot of the production is influenced by IDM and experimental electronic music. It's still pop music, mind you, but fans who aren't exactly accustomed to experimental electronic music might have a hard time getting into it

Second disc is more "serious" songs with less of an electronic influence on production. They're not super similar to songs like All My Friends. New York I Love You, etc., but that's the closest thing in their pre-existing discography I can compare them to. There's also a few really neat ambient bits. One of my favorite parts of the album is when the last song on the first disc, which is a super fun electronic party jam, fades away into an ambient electronica song, which is the first song on the second disc

>He's a super nice guy. Bit of an introvert, not really super energetic until he's actually making the music. Extremely humble, too

Every time someone on this board claims to know Murphy they have to mention how fucking humble he is. Dude thinks his three 7/10 albums made him michael jackson
>>
>>61565684
First disc is like their s/t meets IDM. Second disc is like SoS meets experimental post-punk
>>
can you ask james about the meaning behind the name?
>>
Is David Bowie on the album?
>>
>>61564688
While I am approaching this with extreme caution, everything he's saying makes total sense.

With that said, if he is real, giving out his name or picture would likely ruin his career, whatever that might be.
>>
>>61566448
Murph and Mahoney recorded with David Bowie for a bit. I, sadly, was not present for those recordings. Murph implied there's a possibility that what they made won't end up on the actual LCD album, but it's definitely being released, even if it's as a one-off single.
(And no, it wasn't Murph's contribution to Blackstar. That was before I even started working with the band)
>>
>>61566144
This sounds amazing
>>
>>61566448
This right here. He had a part in Bowie's new album, so it would be nice to see him with a part on the new LCD.
>>
OP here. I wanted to tell you guys one thing that no one has really asked about, but I think you guys would be delighted to hear.

So, obviously SoS and TiH are very beloved albums in this "indie" scene. But a very common complaint about the band is how heavily influenced they are by older bands/artists, like Talking Heads, Bowie, Iggy, etc. Even I, a huge fan of the band who was ecstatic when I found out I could do some work with them, do think a lot of their songs are basically tributes at best, and rip-offs at worst. You'll all be happy to know that that isn't really the case with this album. Sure, Murph's influences can still be heard, but the days of them practically copying a Velvet Underground or Iggy Pop song are over (at least for now)
