ITT: Most overrated albums in their genre
>>61563891
>le bait xD
Idiot
>>61563876
explain please, i'd love to hear your reasoning. or are you not man enough to sincerely and candidly defend your taste on an anonymous forum?
(probably lol)
>>61563925
it aint death grips
>>61563925
The repetitive soft jazz beats can shine on their own, only when Nas' monotone voice isn't ruining them
The lyrics are good for a 19 year old only, except they're not interesting and actually quite naive
The best moment comes when with the feature of AZ, and that says a lot about Nas
It's not bad but not even close to one of the best of the 90's
>>61563876
Got to agree with this one, it's a good album though
>>61563876
Agreed, it's not a bad album, but aside from NY State of Mind, The World is Yours, and It Ain't Hard to Tell, this album is overwhelmingly unremarkable
>>61563876
But that's not MBDTF
>>61564034
Also, it's not even that influential
>>61564203
pleb
>>61564208
right answer to OPs question
>white people
>>61564223
>defends illmatic with his life
>calls others plebs
oh /mu/
hmmm
Life's a Bitch, Memory Lane, One Love, and One Time For Your Mind are all mediocre at best
>>61564241
fuck off whiteboy
>>61564264
What's your point?
>>61564535
Illmatic is whiteboycore
>is considered best rap album of all time
>isn't
why do people get so defensive when it gets called overrated? its a good album, but its not the best, thats the definition of overrated.
>>61564620
What is a better rap album?
>>61564555
shut up faggot nice trips
>>61564573
Nah not really
>death grips
>suicideboys

>mgk
>earl
>mac miller

>>61564632
ok kid, its the best. there's nothing else worth your time. infact, there's not really any point for you to be discussing music since you already have heard the best. please leave
>>61564814
Not that anon but what's wrong? Why not just list a couple of your top rap albums?
>>61564970
this has nothing to do with my personal favorite albums?
>>61564814
All I was asking for was a better rap album. You said Illmatic wasn't the best. What is then? Give me one example.
>>61563876
>>61564644
Are you guys fucking gay?
>>61563891
He's right tho. Either this or MMLP are the most overhyped albums in hip-hop. Illmatic isn't bad tho, it's just no where near top 10 where people always put it

>>61565008
Oh so you're shook then? Okay.
>>61564213
Shut up honkey, not influential my ass. this is probably one of the most influential albums in the genre.
>>61566422

>>61563876

>>61566468

>>61566740
hmm
>>61566236
>white guy calls black person honkey
Only on /mu/
>this is probably one of the most influential albums in the genre.
Not 10 or even close
>>61566782
It actually is highly influential, at least from a production standpoint. It pretty much led to the advent of rappers getting several different producers on their albums. Before then you had maybe 1-2 or 3 producers max on one album. What Nas did back in 94 has basically become the norm, just look how many different producers guys like Kendrick use. Nas' flow is also highly influential but I won't argue that with you.
>>61564651
SAW is great but I don't think its the be all of ambient techno. Its only more consistent than others in the genre
>posts highly regarded album
>"I think it's overrated/shit!"
>>61564213
>it's not even that influential
WE SHITPOSTIN NOW!!!
>>61564329
Lmao
>>61564034
Nas' clever lyrics and flows are deadly. Fuck outta my face
>>61563876
>>61564208
this
People who have this anywhere near their top 100 albums might as well just put a sign on their head that says "I'm a pleb who refuses to dig deeper into electronic music."
>>61564213
Kek'd
>>61567226
Orbital 2 is better AND more consistent imo
>>61565129
mmlp is sooo much worse than this
>>61568271
You want the posterchild of thrash metal, Master of Puppets. Most overrated garbage I've ever heard.
>>61563876
So edgy
>>61568353
Thrash metal fans routinely rank Reign In Blood as the best thrash metal album. Most hardcore fans do anyway. Normie thrash fans say MoP.
>>61563876
most overrated album of the most overrated genre
>>61568358
How is it edgy, moron?
>>61567170
>>61566236
>>61567379
>>61568210
Fanboyism 101
>>61563876
prove me wrong that this isn't the most overrated shit ever to sell more than a million copies
>>61564213
jay z bit his entire style from this album what the fuck i'm so fucking mad that you made this post
>>61568518
Are you fucking kidding me? He references Ilmatic in the song D'Evils on Reasonable Doubt, but there's not biting whatsoever
>>61568518
Gang Starr had that jazzy style way before Nas, it's a NY thing
>>61567571
His flow is so monotone, it has little character. I guess he's good for a rapper at rhyming but that's it, his lyrics are not very clever.
>>61568667
>but there's not biting whatsoever
he copied nas' flow 100%
this is how jay used to rap before illmatic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu4UG8uLHZ8
>>61568770
In that case Nas copied Big Daddy Kane's flow
>>61563876
>not ever being a black youth in the mid to late 90s in Queens
Fucking kill yourself senpai.
Without this album one of the greatest lyricist of this time wouldn't exist.
>>61569061
>not ever being a black youth in the mid to late 90s in Queens
like you aren't white and underage
>>61569124
>tfw mudshit born mid 90's in queens and still never able to enjoy this era of nas and the likes
>>61568424
what the fuck ever lol
>>61564264
the difference is that one of them has bad words in it. no shit it's overrated when he's cussing. pottymouths should be executed.
THIS
>>61569228
>>61568169
You do know most people only have this in their top 100 because it helped them get into more electronic music, right? It's in no way the best, but is an accessible stepping stone into its genre.
