They even outright said in interviews before either MPP or CHz (I forget) that they were upset by people saying their latest stuff was too poppy, not because they were arguing it wasn't but because (I'm half quoting, half paraphrasing) that they weren't a bunch of young kids doing a bunch of drugs anymore, and they never would be again, and their music was going to obviously reflect that

I thought it was great on the first listen, but then again I listen to a shit ton of repetitive music and can get really into it so I'm probably more the exception to the rule than the average person. I can see why it's often considered a song to listen to with psychedelics though.
