Is there EDM that's actually good?

I don't mean Aphex Twin or shit like that, I mean actual club bangers that you could dance to, but that are also musically interesting enough for active listening.
>>
>>61558784
I mean, there's plenty of good techno and house out there, but what's your definition? Would you count someone like Phuture or Terrence Parker?
>>
>>61558784
No such thing, club bangers are just that - bangers to dance to and have mindless fun. To achieve that the music HAS to be dumbed down accordingly.
>>
>>61558828
so in other words there is no good dancemusic?
>>
>>61558828
does this seem "dumbed down" to you?

>>
>>61559726
Good as in fun, catchy and good for dancing - yes. Musically interesting enough for active listening - nope.
>>
I'd say Porter Robinson is about as close as you're gonna get but that shit sucks. The problem with EDM is that its hard to bridge the gap between replayability and, well, just being EDM. It was never made for active listening, and it's hard to translate that to something more musically interesting without losing out either side.

Rae sremmurd and Kanye, easily the best at EDM and bangers.

early jazz wasn't made for active listening as well and guess what.... hell the same goes for a lot of classical music too

I'm a techno head. I prefer HEAVY dark techno over house/deep. I go to alot of shows and was never ever into it until I heard it on a proper sound system. It also makes a huge difference hearing it in a mix rather than listen to individual songs on YouTube. These songs are long, repetitive and very minimalistic because they're ment to be mixed at a show or party.

https://youtu.be/Wssu57w9djA

It turned into a huge part of my life. After parties in strange places. Like basement of a laundromat on China town, hundreds of people rammed into a grimey dirty basement on a pumpin system while you're full of chemicals is how this music is meant to be listened to. All these big festivals full of kids looking like power rangers throwing up hearts and wearing kandi are doing it wrong. Its underground music

right, but not "edm"

that umbrella term has not been used to describe house, techno, dubstep, grime, etc. in, like, a decade. generally "edm" refers to big room house, brostep now. the context changed.

If your interpretation/standards of "musically interesting, possible to actively listen to" etc are as low as "at least you won't hear literally [that sheet music symbol for 'repeat previous measure'] from the time the track begins until it ends," then, yyyyyyyyeeeeeeah kinda? There's electronic dance music with more than two transitions every 15 minutes or whatever, sure. Guess it depends how many instruments you can throw in before it's not electronics whatever I don't know genres okay? okay.

"Electronic Dance Music" is a meaningless and reductive umbrella term. No one who knows anything about the various dane scenes use it. There is no reason why all those genres should be lumped together.

By the early 2010s the initialism "EDM" was being pushed by the U.S. music industry and music press in what was largely an effort to re-brand U.S. rave culture.[3]

Its not a catch all for dance music.
>>
>>61562058
There are uk garage/jungle/house tracks that are definitely "club bangers". 2010s American EDM is just a loud, dumb simplistic version of what "EDM" previously was. EDM has been a term since the 90s

>>61562005
sh-shut up I rave
>>
Why are UK ravers so nationalistic?
>>
>>61562163
>"EDM" previously was. EDM has been a term since the 90s
yeah, and no liked it then either. it's never been popular with djs, producers, or people who go clubbing and can actually tell the difference between a jungle track and a techno track. only lazy journalists.

EDM is just a buzzword for the American music press to lump all popular dance music together. Had those tracks gotten big today, they'd be called EDM.

They certainly count as "club bangers that you could dance to."

Club Bangers you can dance to =/= EDM

It's useless to speculate whether those tracks would be called EDM these days because that's taking them out of the context of when they were released, and hardcore like that isn't really being released anymore. But it would be called Hardcore, because that's what it is.
>>
>>61562793
just look thru fucking discogs christ. better yet go to a club because the scene is inundated with that sort of industrial techno atm.

why are people so lazy? it's not hard to find this stuff.
