look, i like sonic boom (a lot actually - as a dude and as a musician), but he definitely would make some pretty passive aggressive posts when people would express disappointment with pbvsgr or his previous work on tomboy. i just think he's sensitive. and there were some posters who picked up on that and in a kind of kiss ass-y way would try to devalue the opinions of others who maybe weren't thrilled with the job he did, because they didn't want to "hurt his feelings." i'm glad he was there for tidbits before the album came out but his presence sometimes makes things awkward imo.

i disagree and think that's silly. i can be a fan (i am) and not enjoy everything they do. having a site where everyone has the exact same opinions is the death of discussion and i think it almost stunts appreciation if you can't see things through someone else's perspective.

I'm a fan, listen and love lots of Animal Collective. But i'll readily say when I don't care for something after giving it a chance, and it won't always be the popular opinion and that's fine. I find the song Today's Supernatural to be embarrassingly bad, one of the worst things they've ever done, and I think Pulleys is a fantastic song. I'm sure CA would flame me for that TS comment. But on /mu/ even though Pulleys is mostly hated, there are still those who enjoy it and will agree.

yeah, and you know, dissenting opinions aren't inherently bad either. they can be enlightening and underscore and reinforce what you do enjoy about certain aspects of the music. for instance: i once saw someone write that they thought rosie oh was cheesy because it had an almost reggae-esque groove to the guitars and percussion. that was a lightbulb moment for me because i realized that's why I LOVE that track so much.
