digital, obnoxius, dark, looped noises, no payofff, is that a door or pig squeaking? can't hear no direction, water noises, still no direction.
directionless/10

i've only listened to two Whitehouse albums (Birdseed and Great White Death) and both of them had a track that was little more than a high pitched squeal. Do they do that in all their albums?

Tonight I'm going to see Circuit des Yeux, Bitchin Bajas, 404notfound, Dick Wolf, and Proud/Father in New Orleans. Anyone know those artists?

>>61492707
not him but there are no frequencies that can damage your hearing at lower volumes than others. as long as you listen to whitehouse at a comfortable volume your hearing won't be damaged anymore than by any other music
>>
>>61492707
For fun!
>>
>>61491871
>>61492076
I actually kind of like it for what it is, not necessarily being noise. At least until the end when the squeals come in more rapidly. Bleakness is interesting. Needs EQ and compression. Maybe more depth with subtle industrial noise in the background.

>Digital

is not a legitimate criticism.
>>
>>61493033
>digit
i know i was being lazy, really sorry for that, but in my mind "digi" doesn't really mean digital like made with computers but certain traits of noise(being directionless(in my opinion the worst offender of any noise), track lazily put together, too long focus on one texture). But maybe it was just me, like I couldn't hear the clear direction so I assumed that it doesn't exist. Also I thought that entire track is just a part of bigger "song" which means no clear begging nor end. Again Also, texture was not "deep" enough to be really captivating Desu. I think i made myself more clear right now senpai

Just keep practicing. Listen and adapt your aural aesthetic. I really like the squeals. They're abrupt but they way you've done it works. Like I said, I'd add industrial percussive field recordings, maybe some wind all quietly in the background of the low synth.

>The theme will be to make a song about the town you live in. You can make this be harsh noise, a noise wall, or just plain old noise, whatever floats your boat. Tracks should be 10 minutes long at most and you are limited to 1 track. Titles should be in a "(Town name) is a Town Where (Something about your town)" format, but if you can come up with something creative and cool, then that's fine as well!

>Email your track to [email protected]. If for any reason it won't let you email your track (file size limits?), just put your song in a zippyshare or mega download and email it. This will be the bandcamp it appears on: https://noisecomps.bandcamp.com/. I'll get the design set up before the comp comes out. Feel free to include your bandcamp in the email if you want, and I'll put it in the description on the final product.

That's gotta be almost three and a half hours of noise, max so far.

Merzbow claims to be straightedge these days. The only evidence of any past drug use is the story of him being drunk during Venereology sessions and sobering up for the following two albums.

Besides that, I am unaware of any other positive links to any drug use in his life. That, of course, does not mean there hadn't been any, just that he kept it private, which would not be surprising considering the harsh drug laws in Japan.

My question here is, does anyone think that, in fact, he did used to use certain drugs? I'm thinking specifically 1) experience with psychedelics and 2) experience and perhaps longtime use of amphetamines.

Don't get me wrong, I deeply admire him for publicly declaring himself straightedge vegan, I think it's a good message, but for my own part I simply cannot shake the feeling that a lot of amphetamines were involved in his earlier work, certainly a lot of 90s albums. The harsh, relentless noise, the wired electronic pulses underneath, all suggest a nervous system hyped up on amphetamines.

Could he have really been stone cold 100% sober the entire time? Rising from zazen calmness to make brutal noise?

I think these thoughts due to my own struggles. My natural, sober states feels so empty, uninspired, unfocused, like life would be so much greater if I could just function at 25% faster and more focused. I desperately want to feel totally comfortable in my natural state, like Masami seems to be, and capable of tapping into all inspiration, drive, focus, etc without any drug crutch.
>>
>>61511119
he's thing is extreme pornography. Didn't you see his merzbow-brand dildos? Or all that bondage shit on earlier releases.
Also I think he was just fed up with all this poppy-childish-trash atmosphere that mainstream japanese media offer to people.
>>
>>61511119
>My question here is, does anyone think that, in fact, he did used to use certain drugs? I'm thinking specifically 1) experience with psychedelics
Given how much influence of early japanese noise was drawn from psychedelic rock, this seems very likely.
>>
>>61511168
I don't think he's into the extreme porn anymore. At least, he hasn't featured it in his work, and even releases of old music from that era are now packaged with a totally different aesthetic. For example, if the Merzbient and Merzphysics material were released when they were made, they might have bondage artwork, but in their released form they have cosmic, psychedelic artwork or natural scenes of mountains, deserts, rocks, or japanese gardens. Very different.
>>61511204
Well, apparently, lots of Japanese musicians inspired by psychedelic rock weren't drug users themselves but considered music to be a sufficient stimulant itself. Like Keiji Haino who claims to be lifelong sober, no drugs ever, or Asahito Nanjo. I respect their ideas, of creating a more extreme music while completely sober than stoned musicians can, but what is their actual experience? does the music actually by itself stimulate their nervous system like a drug?

I just hate how my life feels boring and miserable but something as little as a Benzedrex inhaler can pick me up and get me focused and inspired for hours. Why can't I function like that all the time instead of being plagued by laziness, no matter how hard I struggle against it?
>>
>>61511316
>porn
well he mellowed out over they years, but you were asking what he was at in earlier days. My answer: hardcore porn
>>
>>61511119
In the Merzbook he dismisses the other members of a pre-Merzbow band as a bunch of "grass-smoking Zappa freaks" who didn't want to do anything. But otherwise, I can't recall any other mentions of drugs, pro- or anti. Even his recent statements seem to be almost entirely anti-smoking.

How do you guys listen to noise for extended periods of time? I like listening to noise but it isn't long before my ears start to get irritated by certain frequencies and straight up start hurting. I also have mild tinnitus that I don't want to make worse and don't want to damage my ears over the course of time. Any suggestions would be appreciated
>>
>>61518696
I use earphones and I listen to it on a pretty low volume.

I also don't listen to harsh noise/hnw, so for a few noise musicians I have to tune the volume up so I don't miss out some stuff.

>>61518696
if it's hurting listen to it quieter. no frequency is more damaging to your hearing than another at the same volume.

>>
>>61528167
no you don't also, i hear mostly post-ironic bandcamp style noise. I'd say you do pretty good job at ridiculing trans-problems, but the noise is so, boring. I think PE with actual yelling about "ladyboys", "traps", "faggots in disguise", "not-woman" and other mambo-jumbo would be far more effective and maybe even more personal(is there any (trans-hate)/(trans-positive) PE by the way) than posting
>HATE YOU KYLE DAMNYOU
on your facebook page. Like I think your main theme would be executed better if this would be Brethren-style power electronics with lots of various sounds n shit. You could make a track about Leelah Alcorn or something.
boring/10
>>
>>61529151
Depending on the type of noise, you can compress the file in audacity. More formless styles would work better imo. Otherwise I'd work on trimming another shorter version, pending the compilers permission.

with headphones, (superlux hd 681) i lower the winamp eq a little around 6k-12k and a slight dip in the 1k mids. it's those frequencies that get a bit crackly and abrasive with a lot of noise music, but eq'ing can really soften it nicely. if i'm using my speakers, just standard desk computer speakers and subwoofer, i'll keep the simple speaker eq at low-12(noon, middle point) and high-9(am) if that makes sense. basically just take the high end edge off.

also, i don't really listen at high volumes except maybe once a day, the rest of the time i have it at a comfortable volume, mostly because my cat is in the room a lot and i worry about her super hearing being disturbed by high volume noise.

generally speaking though, i don't find noise to hurt my ears much, it tends to be other kind of music that gets bothersome. i notice also that my cat can sleep through hours upon hours of constant noise music but gets visibly annoyed if i play something like the beach boys loud, which is weird.

it's weird that i even like noise actually because in my teens i played in a rock band and basically quit because the volume was too overwhelming to my senses, i also could never tolerate hearing friends' bands live, but noise is somehow different. maybe it's just because it's more free form and abstract, not repetitive riffs all the time.

i didn't know mechanization takes command was such an early work, i've always thought it was one of the coolest merzbow pieces. i wish i had the money to buy his stuff and have a real collection but if i limited myself to what i could buy i'd have about five merzbow albums instead of 100. i hope he doesn't hate downloaders who love his music.

I'm not sure how welcome or appropriate this request would be since I've not been on /mu/ in years, but here goes, I was wondering if anybody knew of any noise-ish music similar to Stabbed in the Face by Wolf Eyes?

I like noise rock, but it's never noisy enough, and I like straight up noise music, but it lacks the rhythmic elements of noise rock

Stabbed in the face to me is the perfect combination of both, but I've never really heard any bands/artists that sound quite like this, even most wolf eyes tracks aren't like it

ah thanks. i figured noise and noise rock were different things
>>
>>61494671
Different anon here, I have them in my CD booklet.
>>
>>61540687
That's awesome. Have you posted them anywhere?
Or Force The Truth?
>>
>>61540796
No i haven't. I can transcribe them in a bit but I must say I doubt the accuracy because the words in the actual CD booklet do not sound like what is being said. Nevertheless It is what is in the official booklet.
>>
>>61541125
If you could, that'd be awesome. Nobody online has done it yet from what I can see.
>>
>>61541186
Probably not, Cruise isn't one of Whitehouse's most known albums by any means. I got it solely because I hadn't even heard all the tracks off of it. Like many Whitehouse albums. I've been searching for Quality Time for too long. The ones that are online to be bought are usually expensive.
>>
>>61541517
But for some reason, I can find the "A Cunt Like You" lyrics. Also, what do you mean that you've been searching for it? For a physical copy? Because the lyrics and songs are online.
>>
>>61541517
are you saying you want a digital or physical copy? Because I can help with the former.
>>
>>61541734

of quality time, I mean, if that's not clear
>>
>>61541517
His shit's in your mouth and you're saying nothing happened?!
>>
>>61541734
I haven't been able to even listen to all the tracks from Quality Time. I've looked for digital copies for a long time since It's so difficult to find decently priced physical copies. So yes i'll gladly take a digital copy.
>>
>>61542198
I'll look if you give specific titles.
>>
>>61542227
Mostly looking for the album as a whole. Transcribing those lyrics now btw, it's pretty long.
>>
>>61542376
Great. I'll keep lurking. :^)
>>
>>61542641
here are the lyrics as written in the booklet, they're in all caps there too... it will take me two replies for the whole thing.

Cruise (Force the Truth) written by William Bennet, Peter Sotos, and Phillip Best

THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH DETAILS
THERE ARE NO FUCKING DETAILS
NO FACTS
JUST THE LOUD NOTED ABSENCE
SOME TITILLATING HISTORY
SOME FAMILY SNAPS
NO BRUISES
NO CUTS NOR PLASTIC CASTS
NO BLACK EYES
NO TEARS NOR HOSPITAL WHITE LINEN FETISH GEAR
WHERE'S THE REFLECTION?
IT'S NOT THERE
NOT OVER ALL THOSE SENSIBLE CLOTHES
NOT ON THOSE PUCKERED GUMPS
YOU'LL HAVE TO MAKE IT UP
FANTASIZE THE DETAILS
FORCE THE OBVIOUS
I'VE HAD TO LISTEN TO THESE SICK FUCK INVALIDS FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE MY ENTIRE LIFE AND WORSE, I'VE WAMTED TP BUY WHAT PRECIOUS LITTLE THEY HAD TO SELL
RIGHT NOW I'M SERIOUSLY FUCKING SICK OF IT
SERIOUSLY FUCKING TIRED OF THEIR FILTHY LIES AND HALF-BRAINED SALES STUMBLES AND THEN THEIR COMPLETE CONDESCENSION
I'M BORED WITH THEIR JOBS AND I'M SICK OF PITCHED SECOND-HAND EXPERIENCE
I THINK THERE ARE BETTER PLACES TO SINK TO AND I'M SEARCHING FOR GREATER ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND DISPLAY
ESPECIALLY FOR GRIEF
PAIN IS SUCKED HARD THROUGH GRIEF AND I'LL PAY TO SEE IT SPOTUT
IT'S BETTER WHEN IT'S POSITIONED AND SOLD
I'LL EVEN BELIVE IN WHAT THEY CALL HUMAN

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP US?
DO YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT?
WHO CARES FOR YOU NOWADAYS?
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOURSELF?
DO YOU EVER SAY NO TO ANYBODY?
HOW FAR DO YOU LET THEM GO?
AFTERWARDS, DO YOU EVER COMPLAIN?
HOW LONG DO YOU SPEND WITH EACH?
DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT?
DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU FUCKING WANT?
DO YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY FAITH?
DO YOU KNOW JESUS CHRIST NEVER EXISTED?
DIDN'T YOU KNOW IT'S A MYTH?
WHO TOLD YOU THAT?
PERHAPS YOU COULD TELL US ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL HABITS?
WHERE DO YOU BUY YOUR GROCERIES?
WHAT DO YOU BUY FOR YOURSELF?
WHAT WAS YOUR LAST MEAL?
WHAT KIND OF TOILET PAPER DO YOU PREFER?
IS THERE A SONG YOU'D LIKE TO HEAR?
ARE YOU SLEEPING WELL?
DO YOU NEED TO SIT DOWN?
DOES IT ALWAYS HURT?
CAN I POUR YOU A DRINK?
WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT YOUR SKIN?
HAS SEX BEEN A WAY TO ESCAPE YOUR PROBLEMS?
WHAT DOES SEX MEAN TO YOU?
DOES ALCOHOL HELP?
DO YOU FEEL DEPRESSED AFTERWARDS?
ISN'T IT EXTRAORDINARY TO DO WHAT YOU'RE DOING FOR FREE?
DO OTHERS DO IT BECAUSE THEY ENJOY IT?
DO YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT?
WHAT ARE YOU GETTING OUT OF IT?
DOES IT HURT EMOTIONALLY?
WHY ARE YOU SCARED OF PAIN?
WHO CAN YOU TALK TO?
ARE YOU REALLY HAPPY WITH THE WAY YOU LOOK?
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOURSELF?
WHAT COULD YOU HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY?
COULD YOU POSSIBLY HELP US?
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOURSELF?
DO YOU LIE BACK ON YOUR BED IN THOUGHT?
DO YOU WONDER ABOUT WHAT YOUR PARENTS WOULD THINK?
WOULD LYING TO MYMMYU MAKE YOU FEEL BAD?
RIGHT NOW WHAT WOULD SHE SAY TO YOU?
WHAT WOULD DADDY THINK?
DOES GRANNY KNOW?
DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG?
AND THIS WAS PART OF THE DREAM?
>>
>>61542641
Like I said, the lyrics don't sound to match up with what is actually being said completely, but this is what is written.

Princess Disease: Written by William Bennett

THE YOU NEEDS TO GET A 3-STAR ROOM
YOU'RE PLEADING TO GET TO YOOM
CONSTANTLY LOOKING TO FIND THAT PLACE
THAT SOMETHING
THAT SOMEBODY
AND WHEN YOU DO THE YOU BECOMES TROUBLED AND DISTURBED
AND IN THAT STATE PROCEED TO BE SHOCKED AND ASTONISHED
CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING BUT DINNER FROM ROOM SERVICE?
THE HOT PLATE OF FOOD
THE TASTY FRIED MEAT
THE STEAMING POTATOES
THE TENDER VEGETABLES?
FRIENDLY CRUSTY BREAD
HOT CHOCOLATE DESSERT
TOPPED SO AFFECTIONATELY WITH DOUBLE CREAM
IS THAT THE YOU'S ONLY FRIEND?
APART FROM WAITER WHO PROMISED TO BRING IT WITH GREAT PLEASURE

QUESTION: WHEN DID YOU NOTICE THE INTERNAL PAIN?
WAS IT BEFORE SIGNING THE CHEQUE?
HURT DEEP INSIDE THE VAGINA
IT MUST BE CANCER
OR RAPE
GET TO THE TOILET TO FIND BRIGHT RED BLOOD
BUT YOU'RE PAST BLEEDING
THAT SOMETHING
THAT SOMEBODY

QUESTION: WHAT ARE THOSE HUGE GASHES ON YOUR RIGHT LEG FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK OF THE LEG TOTHE MIDDLE OF THE FRONT?
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?
WHERE THE FUCK DID THAT COME FROM?
TIME FOR A SHOWER
A SHOWER TO WASH AWAY THE FILTH
THE MEMORY
AND GET READY TO EXAMINE THE GLORY OF THOSE
FLAWLESS ROHYNOL BRUISES
OR GHB?
OR BOTH?
WAS IT THAT BLACK BOY WHO BROUGHT DINNER?
OR THE BARTENDER?
BUT THEN THE YOU CHOOSES NOT TO HAVE SEX
HOW CAN YOU FACE WHAT YOU CAN'T REMEMBER?
IN 3-STAR ROOM

YOU WANT TO GET HOME TO HUDDLE AND SHAKE
HUDDLE AND SHAKE
SHAKE IT, YOU
SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL IT THEN, NOT CUNT
FUCKING SHAKE IT
QUESTION: DO I HAVE TO CONSOLE YOU?
TALK TO THE YOU?
THAT YOU'RE NOT A PIECE OF CRAP?
WHEN THE YOU GETS RAPED?
WOULD I ABANDON YOU?
WOULD I ABANDON A PIECE OF CRAP?
DO YOU REALLY THINK I WOULD DO THAT?
WHY WAS IT THE YOU?
THE CUNT?
NO SHORT SKIRT
NO FANTASY HOSE
NO FLIRTING
DAYLIGHT
JUST TWO DRINKS
NOT HUNGRY FOR A GOOD HARD FUCKING THAT WOULD LEAVE NC
PUMMELLED WITH PAIN INSIDE.
>>

YOU WANT TO GET TO HOSPITAL BED
THE WHITE WOMB
PATIENTLY WAITING FOR THE YOU
CONSTANTLY LOOKING TO FIND THAT PLACE
THE BED FOR THE BRONCHITIS
(THAT INFLAMMATION OF THE LINING OF THE BRONCHIAL TUBES)
THE DELIRIUM
THE CELLULITIS (THAT INFECTION OF THE SOFT TISSUES IN THE LEGS - LETHAL IF NOT TREATED WITH ANTIBIOTICS)
THE PAINFUL BLOOD CLOTS
THE ATROPHYING OF MUSCLES
THE PNEUMONIA (THAT SERIOUS INFECTION OF YOUR LUNGS)
THE HIGH FEVER
THE GLAMOUR OF SERIOUS ILLNESS QUOI
SELFISHNESS
BUT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT
IT'S WHAT MAKES THE YOU DIFFERENT
SIGNIFICANT
STRONGER THAN YESTERDAY
LONELINESS DOESN'T HURT ANY MORE
NEW QUESTION: SO HOW DO YOU LIKE PSYCHIATRISTS?
LUCID?
OR EMPATHETIC?
BUT THEN THE YOU JUST BLANK STARES
OR SAYS SOME WORDS
AND THAT'S THE MOMENT YOU RULE OVER ALL LIFE

>>61544453
Someone apparently said that "Baby" is one of their most disturbing pieces yet. Do you know what the 'plot' is? Is it even a song?
>>
>>61544786
I just found a post:

""Baby" is, ostensibly, just a recording of a baby playing in the bathtub with some nearly inaudible subsonic synthesizer noise. The standard child babbling and noises are there with really no processing. The voice of the child does sound like it may have a bit of effects placed on it, but otherwise it stays rather untouched. Other than the minor effects and multitracking to the voice, there’s nothing sinister at all here, but placed into the context of a Whitehouse album, and this particular Whitehouse album at that, it is extremely uncomfortable to hear."

>>61544453
Did he ever say which ones?
>>
>>61548426
No, he never said anything of it as far as I know. I found out on my own searching up the titles. It's really cool going through a conceptual release and lookup up the images/titles and finding out where they came from. For instance, RSE fans might find this familiar:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/travel/news/article.cfm?c_id=7&objectid=10489389
>>
>>61548521
That's cool as fuck, do you know any of the othe places he's taken titles from?
>>
>>61549734
Not many that I can remember. One or two of the River Magic titles are taken from Gary Ridgway confessions along with the quotation on the Vegas Martyrs Vancouver Missing Women cover, and I'm sure most of the Vatican Shadow titles are probably directly from or modifications of news headlines. Christian Cosmos titles are likely from scripture, but I don't know. I'll have to look up some other RSE and specific VS releases some time.

Asking for a bit of help, guys. I'm not really into the harshest end of the noise spectrum, I'm more of a drone kind of man, but I'm looking for something heavy, abrasive but still... melodic, if it makes any sense?

If it helps, something like MACH 1.67 / I Am A Lake of Burning Orchids / Merzbeat / Consumer Electronics. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have no idea how to find what I'm looking for.

Well, I like "structured noise" and other types of music that incorporates noise, specially shoegaze (I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids is the first to come to mind, one of my fav artists right now) and electronic (some of Yellow Swans' records, i.e. Bring the Neon War Home), also drone ambient and doom (Jefre, Wreck and Reference). Of course you shouldn't exclude Prurient, he's prolific as fuck and I like a lot of his releases, specially his PE/Experimental/Ambient stuff, like Cocaine Death, Frozen Niagara Falls and Unmasking the Insect. There are also his other side projects like Vatican Shadow, pretty cool minimal techno/dark ambient stuff, not specially noisy. I think Christian Cosmos is more noisy but I never got to pirate any of it.

Do you guys usually go to noise / industrial shows alone? How are they?

There's one of my fav acts coming to my city next week but im kind of "insecure" going alone, since they put out a pretty crazt live show and i dont want to die crushed in a mosh by crazy bald guys (im super short and with glasses and not exactly buff so yeah)

Opinions?
>>
>>61555545
I'd be willing to bet that the majority of those crowds come alone. If your worried about getting hurt just stay cut of the pit.
>>
>>61551843
If you haven't explored the industrial side of death industrial you maywant to try to do that. I can't give you recs cause I know dick all about that stuff myself.

As for rhythmic noise it sounds like you'd like the more industrial end of it. Check out early esplendor geometrico (not that the later stuff is bad its just my understanding that its less noisy) and helm
