What is your opinion on racism, pedophilia, sexual violence, questionable politics and generally hateful themes in music and art?

Should they be censored? Have their distribution controlled? I found out recently that Discogs blocked the sale of a few Mikko Aspa projects because of their content. Is this ethical?

Should artists not have the right to explore these themes? And what about the case that it's done in genuine earnest, for example NSBM bands? This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately, and a recent "debate" in a /noise/ thread made me want to hear what others had to say.
>>
Nothing should ever be censored. Controlled to the extent that children don't see it but an adult should be able to buy/create anything (outside of violence to non consenting individuals)
>>

I probably have a biased opinion since I listen to noise but I don't think you should be able to censor any form of art no matter what

These.

pedophilia and rape should not be allowed
everything else is ok
>>

Mikko Aspa is the guy who samples audio from CP videos, right? I don't blame Discogs for banning that, since it could be considered illegal. Beyond that I don't really care, you should be able to be as much of an edgelord as you like

jesus fucking christ mikko
>>
>Should they be censored?
no
>Have their distribution controlled?
no
>Is this ethical?
not for the artist
>Should artists not have the right to explore these themes?
no
>And what about the case that it's done in genuine earnest, for example NSBM bands?
i may not like it but it shouldn't be someone else's say on whether or not that content should be allowed

>le pedophilia and rape are worse than murder meme

literal faggot
>>
>>61465964
You're likely thinking of Peter Sotos, but Mikko has done that as well. He's also directed some questionable porn.
>>

As source material for your next noise album?

murder doesnt psychologically scar you and fuck you up for life dummy

>"edgelord"
why are people so unwilling to be sincere towards darker content? i swear it's some kind of built-in knee-jerk defense mechanism to just call it edgy

it's so hard to take a genuine, heartfelt interest in something without being fucking memed on these days

yeah but for only like a year. by that point they accept it and they may get sad about it once in a while but it doesnt interfere with day to day functioning

oh okay

You could literally say the exact same thing for pedophilia/rape
>>
>>61465958
Have to say that I agree on this one. Samples of cp, rape, violence and murder has nothing to do with music as an artform. It could be allowed to be played in an art room as part of an exhibition, but should be restricted from general sale. Yes that's too edgy for me.

Racism on the other hand is something that in most countires can be expressed, depending on restrictions to freedom of speech. Amazon recently did something awesome in regards to sale of Pegida related music, giving all profits from those sales to refugee support.

>Samples of cp, rape, violence and murder has nothing to do with music as an artform
you're going to have to justify this opinion a bit more..
>>
>>61466010
Did Peter Sotos actually sample CP? I haven't listened to Buyer's Market but I thought it was just interviews with victims and their family
>>
Art should be allowed to have any themes and imagery and artist wants, as long as it:

>Is kept away from children
>Does not involve non-consensual individuals (i.e. voyeur porn) or individuals who cannot consent (mentally disabled, children, etc.) in sexual or other harmful situations
>Does not cause needless damage to the world (i.e. burning down a building to make a statement)
>>
>>61466352
it is just interview snippets but Peter Sotos got off on it so he might as well have used real recordings of CP. just as fucked up to me
>>
>>61466240
>REFUGEES WELCOME
>>
>>61466352
AFAIK it's just interview segments, but I remember he was either caught or admitted to owning cp. Might have been some legal trouble, I'm not sure, but he justified it for artistic reasons
>>
>>61466495

He was using cropped CP in his magazine to show the horrors of it or something.

Not very smart of him, seeing as the police would probably let him do that legally if he just asked.
>>
>>61466523
I'm not so sure I buy his defense of that fiasco. Purposely seeking out and purchasing child-pornography so that you can make some kind of social commentary is taking things a bit far.
>>
>>61465964
Really hard to take discogs side when they've admitted to wrongly banning noise albums.
>>
>Have their distribution controlled?

That's up to the distributor, and there is nothing wrong with a private company having a set of ethical principles
>>
>>61466781
More info on this?
>>
>>61467173
From reading allot of threads of noise labels being blacklisted like Filth And Violence on discogs. Allot of the noise albums bans are to keep the sites investors happy like what reddit did to there NSFW subs, the whole thing that they were banned for themes & content are mostly lies.
