Help me out guys. I generally dislike melodic tech death but I fucking love Anata like it was my own baby. Can you rec anything? I can't really describe what I want, I just mean that sense of something sharp and techy as fuck but driven by good songwriting rather than guitar nerding.

Uhh, you specifically want melodic tech? There aren't many bands like that, try winter bestowed, inferi, allegaeon, sarpanitum, appaling spawn/lykathea aflame, vortex, descend into nothingness, obscura(the band), gaijin, the newest job for a cowboy album

I know it's an autistic distinction but I'm looking for tech with melodic sensibilities rather than the other way around. Like this:

rather than something like Lykathea Aflame which to me is melodeath with some tech mixed in. Stuff like Sarpanitum goes in the 'Morbid Angel' folder with Mithras etc.

I've been looking at some BDM bands who have an Anata-ish sense of melody recently. I'd recommend Infinitum, Dominion, Carnophage, and Lecherous Nocturne.
Pavor and Blood Dress may also be of interest to Anata fans. Less br00tal though.

decrepit birth and cynic are good but a little 'tasteful n' jazzy' for me. Capharnaum is great. Obscura and Gorod is also good but very much tech for tech's sake. JFAC somehow got really fucking good, go figure. I'll look the others up.
