>>
>>61427982
Yeah if you're recording I can see how having alot of tonal colors on hand is useful. I find for practicing or playing live the more of a particular type of pedal you have the more you tend to overfocus on "tone" instead of technique/playing.

I used to use a ton of dirt pedals at the same time but finally just narrowed it down to a single overdrive that can have some fuzzlike characteristics.

I hit my very low talent ceiling a year or so ago. I've lost all interest and motivation. I'll never make music, I'll never be in a band. I'm just too fucking dumb. I pick up my guitar a few times every week and noodle but I won't ever improve, and I'm very mediocre regardless. I wasted so many years playing this stupid thing and it got me nowhere and I never really liked playing it after the first few years, I just told myself I should practice and eventually I'll be really good. This is not true. I hit the roof a long time ago, I lack the talent, the aptitude, the potential and now I'm lost.
>>
>>61428040
Just become a blooze lawyer senpai, no harm in that.
>>
>>61428040
If you don't enjoy it don't play. As for a ceiling, you're probably just at a plateau.
>>
>>61428040

>>
>>61428031
Yeah, I'm big on the Blues which is that the Royal Blue is for but every once in a while I like some higher gain rock and the Talons does the job. Two VERY different kind of OD and clippings, one can't really do the job of the other.

Then I have a fuzz which is really just another category.

But I see where you're coming from. That's a 8-pedal pedalboard with just one modulation effect if you discount the ditto (which is dying btw). It's only temporary, though, I should be working on my modulation pedals from now on.
>>
What would you say the minimum budget should be for a first amp?
>>
>>61428040
Yeah I think you should only play if you're having fun. Learn songs you want to play, forget trying to git gud.

$100 to $150 if you're relatively broke.

I'm the kind of guy who has never used a mic in a multiplayer video game, the kind of guy who doesn't say hello at work, the guy who can do something a thousand times and still be nervous each time, the kind of guy exposure therapy doesn't work on. And I don't drink Dos Equis.

Have you ever played for people? I like singing with family and friends and being good enough to play anything on the spot. I also like to jam with people who are into the same music as i am. Then there's also the fact that i'm not good enough for the gear i have yet. These are some of the things that motivate me to play. I think gibson is actually giving up on making a decent bass. Tiny frets and set necks are just really bad for basses. Not to mention they're back-breakers. The new one was cool but they didn't even try to sell it. And it still had tiny frets and a set neck.

you can only think that if you haven't played a proper acoustic. cheao fenders sound dead (they dob't resonate much and have no high end). I love fender products (I'd love to own a jazzmaster, a strat, a rhodes stage piano, a bassman and a twin reverb) but their acoustics are utter shit.

I mean, as a bass player myself, no one expects anything really, at least in 90% of rock music. Be in time and play the roots. There's more to it, but you said competently, not good.

>>61429770
Most guitarists also suck, and they play power chords most of the time, so you play the root note, which is basically the note their index is playing. Otherwise, provided you're not tone deaf, you figure out the root by ear.

Both, also thumb and sometimes index/thumb, but rarely. Depends on what the song calls for.

you look at the lowest note which is usually the root. The 4 lowest (as in pitch, not height) strings on the guitar are tuned to the same notes as the strings on the bass guitar, one octave higher

Buy this book by Albert Ellis and read it through a few times. Then spend two hours a day doing the exercises for a couple of months. (It's just like practising guitar.) Or you can keep doing what you're doing... Sometimes the pain of staying the same has to outweigh the pain of changing before one takes action. If you get there, you now know where to go.

I think Wooten is literally autistic, not as an insult or anything, but his talent + that weird look on his face just give it away.

anyone have an experience with Harley Benton guitars?

this one caught my eye and the reviews and stats look pretty good (Wilkinson pickups, etc).

only thing i would do is probably try to find a telecaster style neck.
>>
>>61434300
Variance is pretty damn high, you can get one that's fine or you could get one where they forgot the shielding, fucked up the grounding and screwed up the neck. Be prepared to fix some stuff if you buy one.

Friend of mine has an old Maton. Think it's an 82 or 83, it's one of the nicest acoustic I've ever played.

I've tried to buy it off him a few times. He never plays it since getting a Martin.
>>
So I got pissed and stopped playing for a couple of days. When I went back to it my flow was gone. I kept playing but it wasn't happening. Turns out that I went back to picking from the wrist instead of the forearm/elbow mechanic I have been using for the last year. If the old mechanic is still my default setting... I need to practise more.

You've got your memes wrong, you're supposed to buy an agile, not a harley benton.
I tried a friend's warlock copy from them and it's decent, for 100€ you get pretty much what you pay for, if you replace the pickups then it's decent enough to do small gigs with.

>>61429205
4003 has a slightly wider neck, so if you're like me and have small hands, is no good
>>
>>61434966
The pickups are really muddy, it is almost certain the electronics will fail (loose jack/unsoldered pots), but the construction is acceptable, despite the neck being a bit fatter than what I'm used to (Ibanez).
At this price though, you'll struggle to find something really good everytime.
Also it's a long scale (27"), so the lower string will probably still sound good enough.

It's got to be the pickups, man. I never really change the settings and it doesn't squeal on my King V when I crank.

In general the pickups sounds brighter and have more presence.

But most importantly, you get A LOT less treble kill when you roll off your volume. It also seems to affect the tone knob as well, as it takes longer to get into muddy/inside-an-aquarium territory.
>>
>>61436920
Is it easy to do? My Tele's neck pickup is barely audible.

CME is the shit. If you ever make it out to the Portage Park area you need to check out Midwest Buy & Sell. It's a smaller store but they always have cool stuff like modded Strats with full pickup replacements or electric upright basses and just a shit ton of tube amps.

Rec me my first metalfag guitar. I'm not a beginner, been playing consistently for 12 years. Just now getting into metal because I want to get more technical and I don't care about jazz.

Requirements
>string-through body (no trems or locking nuts)
>lightweight or at least not too heavy
>thin neck

I don't care about the kind of pickups or the finish.
I used to have an Ibanez RG and the neck was awesome but I hated the body, it just felt like a dead plank of wood. Plus it had a Floyd on it, I really don't want one.

Price range is I guess <$600 USED.
I just want a nice midrange guitar that feels well-made, looks nice, and is going to be suitable for technical metal styles.

Serious bang for the buck. Mahogany bodies, ebony fretboards and Duncan pups. I own a couple of Damiens and never regret it. Good too for whatever you want to play.

I was looking at Schecter last night, are those typically heavier than Ibanez guitars with similar strat-type bodies? I'm mostly looking at Ibanez SZ series and Schecter C-1 Elite, some of the hardtail Hellraisers look cool too. Do the necks feel as thin and fast as Ibanez? I'm aware that I need to go to a store and play them side-by-side but I'm asking here just for kicks.

Can't say really as I only play Schecter and Jackson, I haven't had any hardbodied Ibanez in my hands lately only an Artcore. Plus my hands are kind of large and the necks on electrics feel small compared to any classical nylon stringed beast. Jacsons Soloist series are nice just slightly above your price tho.
