used to love this album, fell out of love with AJJ a few yrs ago though and haven't listened to them since their awful Christmas Island album dropped or whatever that shit was called
AJJ is kinda enjoyable in a similar way to Pinkerton by Weezer... yes, the instrumentals are relatively poppy/simple. yes, the singer is a pathetic whiny whiteboy. you don't have to be as pathetic as him to find him entertaining, subtly relatable. it's fascinating in the way a Todd Solondz movie is. obviously the dude is a piece of shit, that's one of the main reasons why it can be fun to listen to
only reason I still listen to pinkerton and not AJJ is because Pinkerton has incredible melodies/power pop solos and as you said, AJJ is somewhat bland musically

I can kind of understand the appeal, I guess it's just not for me. I can't really make it through Pinkerton either, or about 99% of emo for that matter. There's just something about the self-pity that rubs me the wrong way.
