ITT: Artists that really need to retire
all of them
*cough*Bob Dylan*cough*
Madonna
>>61390006
I haven't heard anything past 21st Century Breakdown, but that album was pretty good imo. Nothing will top Dookie, of course.
>>61390648
TOO SOON FAGGOT
>>61390648
hes pointing at us anon
"Everyone has a finite set of good songs in them and I'm not an exception. Paul McCartney, one of the finest songwriters of the 20th century, has written nothing but manure for over 25 years. Rock stars over the age of 30 do not produce important material."
-- Noel Gallagher
Britney Spears and Rivers Cuomo
>>61390661
haha wow that escalator was quickly xD bazinga!
>>61390664
damn...
>>61390004
>more likeable while a heroin addict than clean
Wow. I don't even mean like a musician, I mean straight up as a person. He's such a cunt, and such a hack now too.
>>61390667
>Noel Gallagher
The good news is that I've yet to hear anything good from him.
>>61390667
>"Everyone has a finite set of good songs in them and I'm not an exception. Paul McCartney, one of the finest songwriters of the 20th century, has written nothing but manure for over 25 years. Rock stars over the age of 30 do not produce important material."
There are exceptions, but generally speaking, this does hold true. Rolling Stones, The Who, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Kiss, Metallica, Pearl Jam...every one of them did jack all after their 20s.
>>61390648
hell be alright
>tfw brian will never just retire and put out sporadic piano demos on the internet until he dies
>>61390754
I laughed at your post, but you're still an asshole
>>61390879
Well...they had albums that were good and albums that sold well, but all their groundbreaking, game-changer stuff happened before they turned 30. I don't think too many kids were inspired to pick up a guitar by Load or Get A Grip.
>>61390641
Nimrod and American Idiot were better albums. Search your feelings.
don't worry OP, Megadave will have to retire when his hands finally fall off. like hes still going to playing Poison Was The Cure when he's the Rolling Stones' age.
>>61391311
Then again, Art Blakey and Buddy Rich were still breaking the sound barrier on the skins when they were around 70. Unless drums are easier to play than guitar.
>>61391311
>275 bpm
That song is fucking insane - I think the fastest Metallica ever got was 220 bpm with One.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAixvk7zLlA
>>61391552
When Megadeth were good, they were really fucking good
>>61391602
They're retiring anyway because Mick Mars is just about dead. And actually, the other guys are only in their 50s but they burned out really fast due to their excesses.
>>61391456
I saw a video of BR's last interview before he died. He was a couple months shy of 70 and he gives a drumming demonstration where his hands are like a blur. I can't in my 20s move my digits anywhere near that fast.
I heard that MC had to use backing tapes at their shows because Vince Neil's fat beer gut self just can't hit those notes anymore.
>>61391552
I looked it up and you're correct. That is indeed the fastest song in Megadeth's catalog and One is Metallica's fastest. Slayer got up to 250 bpm on Necrophobic, still not quite PITC speed.
>>61390667
So why does this guy think he's the self-appointed guru of rock-and-roll. Dude, you had like two bubblegum pop rock hits and nobody except 10 year old British girls in the 90s thinks Oasis are good.
retirement needed god tier
Rolling Stones.
Also it's a good thing Rush retired. Geddy was starting to struggle a bit with the songs.
>>61392242
>Rolling Stones
Easy mode though they were playing pretty good on the '15 summer tour.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyRMmYJ7GzE
This is too easy.
>>61392242
>Rush retired
so no new rush album? Clockwork angels was good
>>61392183
he should have retired in 2002
>>61390667
>Noel Gallagher
>implying you can quote this cunt with any weight or meaning behind it
>>61392399
Imagine being fucked by Noel Gallagher...
>>61392306
I'm sure they could make an album, but a new tour isn't looking likely
>>61392265
The Stones' recent tours have gotten shorter (Jagger says they can't plan more than six months ahead at their ages) but also have less predictable setlists as opposed to the years and years of playing the same 10 songs at every show.
>Aerosmith
>>61390004
>>61393620
No.
Ian Gillan
>>61393620
Swans should've never reformed. It almost seemed like it was worth it when the seer came out, but...
>>61393665
LOLOLOL I'd like to see him sing this now.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9kJF7xwrhs
>>61393665
Paul McCartney is lucky; he can still hit high notes fairly consistently.
>>61393592
Steven Tyler was working on a country album because I guess he got bored of performing Sweet Emotion for the 4584th time.
>>61391552
Judas Priest had a 220 bpm song with Call For The Priest, but it was never played live except like two times during the 1977 tour.
>Megadave acts like he's so high and mighty god of rock
>mfw plenty of metal guys have covered their songs over the years
20 years ago
What remains of Yes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLGLVlcx-OM#t=30m36s
>>61390648
TOO SOON
>>61393620
They're doing their last album of this formation soon. You may get your wish for a while.
Granted, reforming did bring their music to a lot of people who would've never heard them otherwise.Even if they aren't putting albums on par with their earlier stuff, it's still pretty good.
>>61395144
Yeah...that. Paul's voice is now like...holy fucking god.
>>61390754
you're a true meme wordsmith anon
Slayer needs to stop, they haven't put anything 'good' out since Seasons in the Abyss. Then Jeff died and Dave left or whatever.
>>61395641
I hate Jew Simmons anyway
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NnygF3_MHg
This thread proves Rock is dead.
>>61396308
It's not Gene's fault, it's Paul for not taking care of his voice properly.
>>61396369
God damn that was a good laugh, thank you
>>61394583
lyl my dad had a college roommate who was obsessed with Yes. the kind of music you were supposed to listen to while sitting in a beanbag smoking a joint.
>>61390004
Wtf he looks exactly like sips
Madonna
i think he's dead now but i paid a larger-than-i-would-ordinarily-pay price to see Link Wray back in the early 2000s. i was like "far out, Link Wray is coming, must see!" and he was completely senile. he'd start playing a repeating lick and tell a rambling life story over it for like ten minutes at a time. repeatedly. his comparatively young wife would go out onstage and kinda talk him down. he played like 4 songs all night. it was sad as fuck but he had no business taking our money.
>>61390648
hell be fine
>>61397183
That's a little surprising because all the pics I could find of him in his later years he looked like he was in his 50s. He didn't look like a 70-something guy at all.
Also yeah he did die like 10 years ago.
>>61390648
Who would win in a fight, Lemmy or God?
>>61397490
ya, he looked fairly good but senile af
>>61397490
I mean, yeah.
>>61397648
You really stop to think how much that whole biker/rebel/punk schtick has disappeared with Millenials.
>>61390667
Robert Wyatt anyone?
This is the worst type of retirement since Daniel Johnston probably never made a lot of money from his music and he still clearly needs some medical attention unlike Brian Wilson who is definitely more manageable
But man the novelty of Daniel Johnston's music has really worn off for me album after album of the same shit and he clearly is getting too old and unhealthy for these types of stuff
>>61390667
Our dear late friend Lemmy founded Motorhead when he was 30 and he never made a truly bad album.
yes, no, meybe?
>>61398867
I don't know...
>>61398867
is that steven segal?
>>61396210
Gary Holt played in the new album and he's confirmed to be more involved in the writting in the upcoming album so I'm hyped
>>61396210
Dave left AGAIN. Kerry King is a retard. They need to stop this soon and Gary Holt needs to go back to tour with Zetro in Exodus again.
>>61397493
trick question
god is lemmy
>>61390879
What about Sonic Youth, swans, godspeed you! black emperor etc?
I don't even know what he does these days
the original line-up reunion is going to be horrible because of him
>>61399026
Looks like half Steven Segall/half Jeremy Clarkson.
>>61399026
I was about to post this.
No such thing as an artist that needs to retire.
Keep on rocking brothers \m/
>>61399589
fuck does he ever wear anything besides blank long sleeve shirts
>>61390004
Man, Robert Plant hasn't retired yet?
>>61402455
That's John Thoroughbred of Noble Gasallica, dick rag.
>>61395144
you beat me to it --- this guy has been going thru the motions for more than a decade now. his onstage vocals are a shadow of what they used to be when he was in his prime. kiss has always been a moneymaking machine and paul's more interested in making money than he is performing well.
>>61390004
and the rest of metallica
>>61396868
How didn't I notice this before?
>>61391602
To be fair Mick Mars has always just shuffled around so not much has changed there, but kek those vocals
>>61390004
I went and saw Megadeth last year, and Dave still goes pretty fucking hard.
>>61403422
yung mustaine was kawaii as fuck
This is his son (who is band manager for Havok, a pretty good nu-thrash band) and daughter
I saw Megadeth recently too and they slayed. I wish he was my dad desu
>>61403565
>you will never destroy dave mustaine's daughter's tight wet pussy to the virgin-tight riffs of R.I.P.
>>61392057
Since when does giving your opinion like anyone else make you the self-appointed guru of anything? He's someone whose opinions people actually want to hear.
last few albums have been mediocre and his voice doesn't sound as good anymore
>>61404314
>>61397960
I really respect him tho, schizophrenia is a bitch
>>61390667
Do you know when he said that? Just asking because I remembering him going crazy over Valentine's Day by Bowie a few years ago and Bowie was more than double 30 then.
>>61404573
>>61404314
Gore is still a very good songwriter, musically speaking. The compositions tend to be great, even if I don't always like the arrangements or vocals.
>>61390879
Rock is mainly dominated by people without a lot of knowledge or a wealth of ideas. Someone gets attention for being loud and provocative, but it quickly becomes apparent that they don't have anything else to offer. It's not a genre that rewards maturity, generally speaking.
>>61402829
obviously, they should've retired after "justice for all"
>>61403565
they are so beautiful and aryan
it's bringing tears to my eyes
>>61399214
They just have to form another band, without King
>>61391602
>3:30 onwards
