listen to those songs and the rest of those respected albums. they're very warm, natural-sounding downtempo/IDM that's almost entirely sample-based. some of the best usage of plunderphonics i've ever heard. almost doesn't sound like sample-based music.

four tet has always been kind of a weak dj imo, he includes a lot of really basic and obvious hits. never understood why people love his dj-kicks so much - it sounds totally disjoined to me. not saying that you have to be a phenomenal mixer or technician to be a great dj, but your track selections have to at least be inspired to make up for it. i've seen him play a set 3 times and have always come away disappointed.
as for his production - it's a bit hit and miss, but his early stuff is really ace.

personally i find Rounds/Four Tet to be overrated. i guess i can see how that album was pretty nifty for its time but it hasn't aged very well; there are plenty of people doing similar things today and much better.
also i love anything plunderphonics and this doesn't even compare in that aspect to many other works within the genre.
Fennesz - Endless Summer beats it as IDM
The Avalanches - Since I Left You beats it as plunderphonics
heck i'd even say Tycho beats it as chillout/downtempo
