just play high up the neck at first. try playing an open e with the same fingers as if you were playing a barre, same for A.

I've been playing for a year already but i decided to get my guitar setup and upped my gauge to 11s. The action is higher now so suddenly i can't barre anymore. I can barre with A but when i go E, i can only get it right at the 8th fret fuck

>>
How do you get to where you can do 5-string barre chords quickly and naturally?
If I'm trying to play a Bm on 2nd fret of D on 5th fret I have to not play the E string. Do you guys:
-Mute it by touching it with the barring finger
-Mute it with the wrapped-around thumb
-Just not play it
Whenever I try to do the first one the chord gets buzzy, when I do the second one I'll grip too hard and fret the E with my thumb, and when i do the third one I can't strum as freely.

I've tried other chord shapes but just moving up and down with an E shape sounds like shit.

I took a few lessons for one, it's hard because it's set up differently. There are different banjo styles, some are open-tuned, some have 4, 5 strings, all that. If you've been playing for that long it probably won't be too hard though.

You can always be a false and get a banjo guitar.

I'd recommend learning some country or bluegrass guitar. there are some tasty fucking licks in those genres, tons of fun. Banjos are kind of annoying in my opinion. Unless you're really good, it's just loud plunky twang and it's kind of obnoxious.

I owned one (technically still do but it's at my grandma's house) and it's fun for a while but it's a completely different instrument so you're going to experience roadblocks with the same frequency you did while first learning guitar.

I wouldn't say it's more difficult, but not much about guitar is going to transfer over because of the banjo's tuning.

maybe buy a cheap one, learn a few banjo roles/ bluegrass standards, have fun, sell it if you don't like it.
>>

>you don't see as pretty of grain patterns in ebony
It depends on the wood really. A lot of manufacturers dye their ebony boards to be totally black. Madagascan Ebony is super expensive and illegal to use in most places. There are some really nice looking chocolate ebony fretboards out there though. Google Macassar ebony and have a look.

>>61377559
You'll want to be conditioning the wood, otherwise it can crack.

Here's a clip from yesterday of my playing at the moment, complete with a butchered solo. It's some standard 90s metal, but my hands are finally starting to work together again. Got a long way to go, but I'm hugely better than straight after the accident. It's the EMG85 I'm trying at the moment if anyone is interested.

The Kelly and dem BC Rich ones are too pointy and I speak as a metalfag myself.

Besides the Kelly doesn't come in one-piece mahogany like the Explorer unless you bend your ass to FMIC and shell stupid money when you can just buy a Suhr or some other boutique guy.

I saw Dean make one but they come with Dave's shitty active pickups.

Good tone, pretty solid rhythm playing. Are those riffs from a song, or are you just riffing around?

That first measure is the exact same as a BMTH riff:

I have a lot of trouble with my left hand since an accident a few months ago. It's only just starting to all work together again. Tone is nothing fancy, just a 5150 patch direct into my PC with some IRs.

Song wise I can't say I've ever listened to Bring Me The Horizon, it's Mind Corruption by Hypocrisy off their 1994 album The Fourth Dimension.

Can anyone help me out? I'm trying to get more into songwriting but whenever I come up with an alright riff I just get lost and don't know what to do after, if anyone has any advice on how they look at songwriting that'd be much appreciated

>why act like an explorer not sounding like an explorer is a bad thing if you put emgs in yours?
I'm assuming you didn't see my post about the EMGs a thread or two ago.

I'm not really huge on active pickups and tend to use BKPs in almost all my guitars. Until recently I had a 500T in the bridge of my Explorer.

One of the death metal bands I play with is coming off hiatus soonish and I want to use my Explorer live. I'm still have trouble playing guitar since my brain hemorrhage though, so I threw the EMGs in so I can utilize their internal compression to normalize my playing live and make it a bit easier for myself.

Thanks, I got a bit lazy and just did it direct haha. All my mic stands are in storage still... I really should go get them.

The EMG85 has surprised a few people though. It's not a bad sounding pickup really. Much nicer than an EMG81 that's for sure.

>>61380699
Just in addition to >>61380775 that's an EMG85 in the bridge not an 81. The 85 has an A5 rail and doesn't sound anywhere near as sterile as an 81 does.

the Tu-3 is only slightly outmoded in that it's slightly less bright than the Tu-3. I don't play outside gigs, though, so it doesn't matter.

old boss gear is fucking tight, so are 70s script-face MXR pedals.

I'm getting the RV-3 to replace a tacky digitech multi which I'm currently using as a reverb/delay. Believe it or not, it doesn't sound bad. I just want it off my board.

It ended being a 3 MONTH turnaround time when I was quoted 2-3 weeks and I got charged almost $300 for really insignificant shit.

>>61382022
You want the little indent on a 1/4" jack to sit in the indent on the "hook" you're referring to. Those light blue wires go between the speaker output jacks, and when the tech connected the new output transformer to that speaker jack, he bent in the terminal (the one you see the solder on) and when a speaker cable is plugged in, it ends up touching that terminal, which you don't want.

As far as I know, theres only one amp tech "reputable" in my state (Vermont). I've had 3 amps sent to him and he's butchered one really expensive one, did a bunch of work on another (simple old tube amp to trouble shoot a weak tremolo) and then 'gave up' and left me with a non functioning amp and a 80 dollar bill. And another he spent 2 hours finding a single cold solder on another. Theres lots of phonies out there.

I'm not a "reputable" tech, I just buy broken equipment and turn it at my own risk. Aside from bending the jack lug, which is a mistake, the other soldering in the image is not ideal. The yellow cable isn't directed through the lug. I always want the cable to hold itself in place, then the soldering is just to cover. The blue solder connection looks like a blob of almost cold solder. If it had no shine it would be cold for sure.

The cable lacing is cool. Still would not tech with.

What's the best way to transition from bass to guitar? Or, what mistakes should I try to avoid?

I've been playing for about 6 years, most of those years spent on bass although I do have some guitar experience. The nature of the bass has felt somewhat limiting as of late so I'm going to focus on guitar for a while. I already know how to pick decently, and I have a guitar, amp, and pedals. All I need to do at this point is practice
