Post recs, talk shit, get hit, etc.
pic related, Ephera was alright but way too long, the rest were too much of the same sound
exploring deeper into wonky, kind of liking Teebs
Sorry for not rating anything for a week.
>>61361668
Teebs is definitely really cool

Here, have 6 instead
>>61361856
Ty for the rec, I recommend the band Sleep Weather if you're into screamo. Haven't listened to it in a while so I don't know if I've overrated it, but from what I remember its really pleasant.
>>61361974
lol are you me?
>>61361755
I have yet to listen to an album that contains all 10/10 or even 9/10 songs in regards to my taste
nothing wrong with not rating 5/5s
>>61362038
If literally nothing is a 5/5 then you're rating everything out of 4.5.
>>61362169
they didn't say that no album is 5/5, only that they haven't heard one that deserves that score.
>>61362028
Post yours m8
>>61362205
I mean yeah, but in his entire life he's never heard a 10/10 album? He doesn't even think his favorite album is 10/10?
>>61362223
hey m8, i dunno - he's not me, lol. but i've seen plenty of people here assert that there's never been a 10/10 album before. seems odd to me,, but people quantify the value of music in different ways i suppose...
>>61362223
OP here. I still rate out of 5, but I guess no album has had a full sequence of perfect, or even great songs in my opinion. Honestly, I understand that I could probably just rate my favorites as 5/5s because I mean, they're 5/5s relatively speaking.
An album of 10 tracks could have 8 GOAT songs but 2 songs that are just decent. Sure, the album will reach my all-time favorites but it's not perfect if there's two neutral tracks.
I think that my rating system is just a very left-brained, quantified way of scoring. I don't know, I'm relatively new to RYM and I've definitely thought about changing how I score albums.
>>61362406
I mean it's obviously up to you how you rate, and it doesn't trigger me the way rating everything either 5, 3.5, 2, and 0.5 does.
>>61362509
yeah, that shit is real cancer.
>>61362684
Have you watched Heart of a Dog yet?
I've heard pretty decent things but I'm still bitter it's not Laurie doing a goofy version of Bulgakov.
>>61362748
not yet, I'm really curious bout it
>>61361702
idk any of those bands
>>61361741

Various Artist albums are the worst
>>61362992
I don't know any of those

i like your hateful 8 rating
>>61365516
i dunno any of this, but from the covers I'm assuming that they're prog metal albums
>>61365550
>what's wrong with various artists albums
They are hard to rate, because they are usually uneven as fuck.
I guess I'll try rating classical music again
>>61365484
every minute spent watching films is a minute spent not listening to music
>>61365550
3 of those albums are kpop
>>61362992
Timbre's pretty great for sure
>>61365611
>i like your hateful 8 rating
>every minute spent watching films is a minute spent not listening to music
I fucking hate modern cinema. I am not sure why I even bother watching movies anymore desu senpai.
>>61365629
Modern mainstream cinema I should say, there are still a couple good films coming out every year.
>>61365675
What's good about that film it just looked like cheesy horror
>>61365590
depends on the va album really, in my experience they can be a very good introduction to a particular scene or genre
>>61365611
close enough, I was misled by the first two albums
Hongkong deserves better desu
>>61365629
I only bother with the most high-profile releases these days, I can't really be bothered to keep up with most of the films released each year, my backlog is impossibly big
>>61365694
It's /spoiler/ fun /spoiler/
>>61362959
Because it's an interesting album of math rock that manages to be both original and not wanky. Also I like time signatures.
Pleasantly surprised with The Beat of the Earth, the others were all pretty much exactly what I was expecting (though Airborne Toxic Event was maybe a bit of a letdown).
>>61365717
>depends on the va album really, in my experience they can be a very good introduction to a particular scene or genre
Sure there are very cool ones, but often I only like half of it and the rest is kinda meh.
>>61362878
>he doesn't know MEV
Do you even free improvisation?
>>61361945
You're missing out. It's a lot better than you think it is. Also, an EP isn't an album. It's definitely one of the Top 5 EP's of the 80's though (the only decade when EP's mattered).
Haven't rated much recently
>>61365629
the only time I watch any is with friends, when the goal is to make fun of what we're watching
>>61365717
2.5 means I enjoyed it.
it's just that I thought it sounded far more dated than something from 1997 should sound.
>>61361668
you have shit taste
>>61365859
Divers is decent, everything else on there is bad
>>61367211
Wayne Shorter and Glenn Gould are great from the things I've heard
:^)
Currently in process of adding stuff to my RYM library, I'll rate them later.
So this is my last rate/review.

dont over inflate ratings. i like a lot of music yet will give it 2 stars. if thats all you can say about it dont give it such a high score
>>61368097
Underage detected
I really disliked that Marina album. It's really hard to stand out after Sundfor released pop AOTY, I know, but it was still rubbish.
>>61368116
Rome is pretty shit man.
>>61367925
Shout out to the accurate Gorrilaz rating.
>>61365859
Joanna Newsom should be lower imo, and... Aeorsmith?
>>61365598
Reducer fell off near the end, what a shame, could have been a 4/5

Why is home alone rated a 5?
>>61371721
Because it's a perfect movie and one of my favourites.
Haven't got to listen to much over the holidays, family, uni work etc.
I'm still listening to fairly mucore stuff and my ratings are still quite generous, I find it quite hard to really dislike something, which might be a blessing or a curse.
I don't have a lot to rec you guys, it's all very obscure to me but if you guys haven't listened to heather woods broderick and like contemp. classical/ambient stuff then check her out, espeically from the ground
>>61362684
I honestly can't remember if Ive heard Boss Horn, but I think I might have, he's got a big band on it right? And I normally don't really like Stanley b/c he's boring and basic, but that Up At Minton's was good, I was like 16 years old last time I heard it, but I remember it was tight. Try some Tina Brooks as a leader if you haven't.
>>61365730
William Bell album is alright, kind of overly sweet and humdrum I agree, but Isaac Hayes is arranging on it, sooo.
