/mu/ rarely has threads about slowcore, everyone's favorite early 90s alternative genre, but when it does they're pretty good. Figured I'd start up a general to discuss my favorite genre
>Favorite Slowcore group?
>Favorite Slowcore album?
>RHP vs. Low vs. Duster: who did it best?
>rec, post your tastes, rate other people's taste, ask for new stuff

Songs About Leaving is the only good slowcore.

best new general 10/10

to respond to the OP questions:
RHP
bluetile lounge - lowercase
RHP (not to say the others aren't god-tier too)

here are three god-tier underrated slowcore releases! enjoy:
http://music.villavenusmusic.com/ (track 1 is good, tracks 2-4 are god-tier)
https://sunseasky.bandcamp.com/album/braving-the-seabed

false, though i've come to like that album a lot more on repeated listens. male/fem vocals are unbeatable

>>61358144
all good things up in here. tram is under-recognized. surprised you like valium aggelein more than duster's albums though

>>61358033
good question. actually couldn't think of one that stood out as that insanely much slower than everything else
>>
I checked out Valium Aggelein today. They were pretty solid, not quite Duster caliber but still very comfy, no one does the lo-fi thing as well as those guys.
>>
Is Chokebore slowcore?
>>
>>61358227
I like Valium Aggelein's more just because it feels much more consistent. Duster has my favorite slowcore songs of all time, but parts of both Stratosphere and Contemporary Movement really drag for me. Also the atmosphere of VA is unbeatable.

i get that, especially about duster: constellations and echo, bravo can make me cry but then you have some stuff on there that's just okay. hkdsm is a really great record.

I love slowcore thank you for making this thread
>Favorite Slowcore group?
Probably Low, I love their first two albums
>Favorite Slowcore album?
Either Rollercoaster or long division.
>RHP vs. Low vs. Duster: who did it best?
Definitely low
>rec, post your tastes, rate other people's taste, ask for new stuff
Cat Power - Moonpix. Fuck that albums good. Perfect southern gothic hot summer night album
>have >fun
>>61358105
This album is amazingly sad, I didn't know music could be so painful
>>61358561
What this guy said, someone should add moon pix

Also I'll try to find the god tier duster thread from this November. It was amazing
>>
best low release family?

i have to say curtain hits the cast.
>>
>>61358561
although many of her songs are definitely slowcore she doesn't really have one album where slowcore is a bigger influence than post-hardcore/soul/etc. maybe?
idk, what would the community think is my favorite slowcore song of all time

Some really nice slowcore to wrap yourself in a blanket and drink coffee to

>>
>>61358707
classic Low, the best album is either the first or second. Curtain hits is great too. Low just reminds me of being a little kid at night and small mountain towns. Not sure why
>>61358727
Listen to Moon Pix, she's not called the queen of sadcore for no reason. Also nude as the news is great
>>
>>61358789
I've heard her full discography
I said that because to me her most slowcore-sounding stuff is on the covers record and moon pix, and I guess i just mentally categorized moon pix as "indie"/singer-songwriter, but you're right, i guess oon pix is a slowcore record
>>
Is this slowcore?

https://elysianfields.bandcamp.com/album/the-afterlife
>>
>>61358863
Awesome to see a cat power fan of her early work, the first three albums (as imperfect as some are) are really food emotional work. Yeah the covers album and that time period in general especially live is more suicide core than slow core. Ed droste from grizzly bear said he saw her around the time of covers album and said it was the typical breakdown show, keeping her head down, drinking, super raw etc. whoever gets to the chart first can edit as they please but to make both of us happy, they should put whatever the community and moon pix on the chart, since in the slowcore world both albums sound and feel different.
>>
>>61357996
I always try to forget this. I'm not a neckbeard, and I tried to get a chick, but on Valentine's Day freshman year of college I was alone in my dorm room as I listened to songs about leaving. Doesn't get sadder than that. Totally could have taken charge and changed it but didn't. Nothing's different two years later. Here's to slowcore.

Glad you liked it. Looks like that's one of iTunes DRM albums that I haven't converted. It's a pain in the ass. I'm sure it's available somewhere. I think the BR on mine is only about 160 anyway. Not sure why quality would be a big issue for you since it's lo-fi as fuck.

Once again I'm pimping the early, unreleased Helvetia tracks that are my favorite Duster related material. Been seeing these on Soulseek, but just in case people don't know, it's awesome. Like Duster with more baroque guitar playing.

True enough. Yeah, it seems pretty much everyone I know who's heard of her has either you are free or moon pix as their favorite album by her.
I mean, they're both great albums but her first 3 especially were something else. She still had that bare, post-hardcore vibe and the occasional unsettlingly wtf lyrics like on Itchyhead to me just created an atmosphere i haven't got from anything else

I think it goes:
Westering wearily
blood behind the walls
crisis feeder
mayby you don't know
in every hour
without a smile (my favorite)
jude
panic tower
one way jesus
heimatsliebe
san jose winter
couch rock
lost in space (aka spaced case in frame)
always after (aka right now, again)
a celebate rope (aka this is always)

the last two were on the excellent Gladness compilation, but fit nicely here.
